i just got a 1988 supra 7mge(obviously its naturally aspirated aka non-turbo) but i love her to death. she's a 5 speed manual transmission and i'm happy she's n/a be i want to show people what a car is capable of without a turbo

Redsmurf - Save your money man. You won't get anywhere with the 7mge. Get a 7mgte and rebuild/swap it. Trust me. I have 2 7mge's sitting around and currently doing a 7mgte swap in my 87. Had an 89 with a 2jz swapped into it. Check my start-up video in my profile. Any questions on building a supra, just ask.

yeah i konw what your saying, me and my bro are saving up for a 2jz motor only problem is i want to make sure the swap goes correctly and everything works fine. So i'm looking for a shop with experience in this exact swap, having trouble find one though.

2jz - just have the block hot tanked, decked. Have the crank polished, mic'ed. Have the head rebuilt (new seals should be fine) and milled along with the block so you get proper sealing with a metal head gasket. Use good bottom end bearings. If you use ARP rod bolts, don't forget to have the rods machined for that, or you will torque the rods into an oval. Email me if you have any other questions. BTW that's all for a 2jzge with a turbo on it. Cheaper than a 2jzgte. Period. Same internals too.

hi nghty89, from reading what you've written its clear you know way more about supras than me. i don't have one yet but it is my plan to get one and go for fairly big numbers in hp. ideally tho i wanna keep a twin turbo setup instead of going for a single, but i don't want to have to butcher the engine bay or end up with a bonnet (hood) with crazy bulges in it. do you have any ideas what the biggest pair of turbos i could fit to the car

LOL at some of these replys obviously from people who have never seen a Supra / Skyline let alone driven one.

The Supra is an amazing car. It has the BEST Japanese engine ever made BAR NONE. Coupled with AWESOME gear box it is a beast.

The Skyline (for argument sake the R34 GTR) also is an amazing car. But the RB26 isn't as good as a 2JZ. And does need building to make 500hp. Where the Supra can make upward of 700hp on the stock bottom end.

The GTR however has the most amazing chassis.

so true gtr does have an amazing chasis but for the backign of your statements which were true i might add one was a little off the stock 2jz japanese supra motor is able to handl from stock hp in upwards of 1400hp proven time and time again by the professionals

A Supra's motor is much larger. 2.6L in the Skyline, vs 3.0L in the Supra. An RB26DETT bored out to 2.8L makes 500HP with stock turbos and engine mapping. That's the kind of difference displacement makes. But yes, I agree that the 2JZ engine is beastly. Shame the era of the bullet-proof iron block I-6 is long gone. These motors made triple their stock power or more. Like to see that done on a modern Aluminum block....
