very easy - just imagine the motion you would follow if you did one for real, then bend your Cyberman so he is in the same positions throughout the movement.
Then use blutack to hold it in place for the shots that require a bit of balance.
If you want some reference images - try a google image search for Eadweard Muybridge.
nice animation! although i'm not that fond of character building, i prefer things to be completely LEGO. but still, that's got nothing against you. great vid, anyway!
@SmithMoviesInk - Thanks! can't see that it matters who makes the toys, as long as they work! And as Character have the Dr Who licence and Lego doesn't then its your choice if you want the bbc approved figures or not.
@SmithMoviesInk i have to disagree - the Lego figures are not designed to pivot at the waist, making it much more difficult to create realistic animations. But each to his own.
@doctormedoctoryou personally i think that pivoting at the waist isn't really needed. there are so many amazing lego animations that have them move in a way you'd never think they could. try watching "lego- the force unleashed" there is a lightsaber fight that just blows you away!
@SmithMoviesInk and thats the beauty of animation....you make your own world and own rules. In mine- the characters pivot at the waist, and the motion is better for it. If you dont like it - then fine, dont use it.
That is a great lego video - sadly the vast majority that look dreadful...i just hope that budding animators learn and develop with every new piece, otherwise they will continue to make tat for ever!!
@doctormedoctoryou ...and there is something we agree on. i was like that once. every frame seemed to be worse than the previous one. i'm so glad i've improved...
@ParadigmDalek - took about three hours in total including glueing the replacements. the ending was done with 4 different replacements showing separate parts of the walk cycle - take a frame, swap for the next one, etc etc.
I've just added this animation to a stop frame competition...i might stand a chance of winning a prize if everyone could visit youtube.com/user/jobyinc
and click the thumbs up icon on my cybermen video.
New animation currently in progress so should have a new video uploaded this week.

i've got lots more than that! At least 64 of them.
Thats how i animated an army walking. Do a search on replacement animation and you should be able to figure out what i'm on about.

@doctormedoctoryou yer it's a shame that LEGO didn't get there first. but i think it's more fun to create your own version :)
