I thought I was watching that 70's show, thanks fezz... You know that queer kid on the show lol . Oh I hear foot steps you better get out of that basement
DDR3 has higher bandwidth and I am going to guess they want it on a X58 board (since they asked about 6GB which is most common on X58 boards) which means he is looking at 3 channels for the RAM instead of the 2 he would get on DDR2. DDR3 also produces less heat due to lower voltages. However, DDR2 has better latencies. Also, I have seen DDR2 RAM outperform DDR3 RAM....
LMFAO u dont know shit DDR 2 stops mem clocks at 1066 then DDR3 pics up.. DDR3 was created for handle the higher FSB speeds on the intel boards because AMD still had HT integrated in the cpu controller.. it is a enthusiasts choice and a extreme gamer.. it is expensive but if you dont hardcore game and just look at porno all day get the DDR2 ?
You missed the point about the CAS Latency. You can get DDR2 800 now that has a rated CAS Latency of 4, which will easily outperform DDR3 1066 with a CAS Latency of 8 or 9. Just because it's faster doesn't always mean it's better. You have to take into account the CAS Latency.
Well a lot of namebrand computers come with DDR3 1066 now, which is a total waste, other then maybe saving a little more power consumption you are acutally going backwards in performance over DDR2 1066 or even DDR2 800 with good latency timings.
The way ram prices have sky rocketed in both DDR2 and DDR3 as of late due to the bad global economy, it's not helping DDR3 sales right now. 4gb of both DDR2 and DDR3 will set you back 85 90 dollars or more, that's where DDR3 prices were a year ago when it was still pricey.
@SteelCity1981 hey, ive currenly got a ddr2 motherboard with a amd 550 x2 processor, and 667 mhz ram, is it worth upgrading to 1066 mhz ram or should i get a new motherboard with ddr3 to support 1600 mhz, im on a budget and want to know if its worth doing these things.
@LFCforEver12341 It's def worth an upgrade of ram with either DDR3 or DDR2 1066 seeing how the DDR2 667 is bottlenecking your cpu. As for which to get it depends. If you are on a budget, then it would be cheaper just upgrading to DDR2 1066 rather then spending money on a new motherboard and ram.
ddr2 is acessed much faster because of the much tighter timeings

hi im thinking about building a pc but i can only really afford ddr2 is it worth the money that it costs or not?
bammargeraskate96 1 year ago
@bammargeraskate96 DDR3 is cheaper than DDR2 because it's mass-produced now.

buy the ddr3 6gb is the best
8gb is just to much and ddr2 is slow

FYI, DDR2 doesn't stop at 1066MHz. I've seen it for sale at 1200MHz.
Also, DDR3 doesn't start at where DDR2 finishes (clock wise) as DDR3 can be had as low as 800MHz.

Yes you are very true about the CAS Latency, the thing is when you buy DDR3
your not going to buy DDR3 1066 which is easily availible in DDR2 form. I'm talking
about DDR3 1600 or more is when the difference counts.
And with any RAM you can always lower the timings as much as you can but if you compare DDR3 2000 to DDR2
1066 is a major difference regardless of the latencies.

Yeah I'm not talking about branded PC, talking about DIY. As this user was a DIY user.

DDR3 all the way. If the money is not a problem, then go with the DDR3.

its really more latencys than speed of the ram that is important
