lol i used to use VMware for everything when i worked at IBM lol once all my co-workers dared me to remote into my machine whilst running a virtual desktop so i did it and it was just like a millions boxs of erroR And death lol so funny then it turned of so yea tip dont rmote into ur computer whilst using VMware not a good choice ..... o by the way i know work for fujitsu siemens who are awsome kinda typical japenese company tho
dude my uncle works in vm ware and i have all the latest versions and there is no way of comparing it to anything else it is way ahead of any other virtualization software by years
When one power of vmware lies on the server side of thing, the other power lies on the client side. I use vmware every day to test application in safe environment and to deploy them as virtualized applications. I also use vmware on my Mac to run Windows.
I and my client, even if they don't realized it, love the power of vmware.
At The University of Baltimore we use VMWare running on an IBM Blade Center with 8 blades powering about 130 virtual servers. We too love the power of VMWare.
See another comment I have here is regarding the Dell EMC SAN they have. Well, since sooo many people talk about how HP is the best and so on, why do people keep going back to Dell time and time again?
We've been with Dell for years, all our servers are Dell and i've never ever had a problem with any of them. Typical problems are Windows related only. So I dont get why i'm attacked everytime i mention a Dell solution, like its a curse word lol.
I leveraged the power of VMWare in my server infrastructure and gained a lot of admin time back by increasing the speed of machine deployment and deletion. Also great for testing updates, service packs and trialing backup restores.
Happens to me sometimes, if your using wireless (which I "was" at the time) you can basically forget VMWare, it jacks up the network stack with some cards (note "some" not "all"). Removing your thumbs down some jackass gave you.

MS virtual PC won't run on a Linux box, which makes it worthless to a lot of people. I don't want to have to deal with maintaining Windows in order to run virtual machines on it. The reason I use VMWare is so that when my windows box dies for whatever reason, I just wipe the damned thing and restore from a previous backup of a virtual machine. I can recover from any attack in 5 minutes.

Nope. What do I need VMWare Workstation for? So I can have D3D graphics or so that I can make snapshots I never use?
I truly don't see any reason to run Workstation. In fact, if Server didn't exist, I would have made my own applications to create virtual machines if I had to. I don't even need server.
I like workstation. It works nicer than server. It's more designed for people who code between two os platforms. But why use workstation when you could use virtual box.
These guys are lazy assholes. They're whining about their jobs and exhausting company's budget to reduce their personal workload. .

Forget going through DELL, Insight is the best re-seller to go through to get this. More competitive and way better service

I need USB devices, and VMWare Server as well as VMWare Player are free, for now.

You can't shrink a disk on virtual box yet.
Server is free, and the OSE of virtual box doesn't support USB.
I don't see why you can't code under Server, unless you're doing D3D.

@fuzzywzhe ; About the schrinking ... that part is interesting indeed ... it would be a major feature though ...
