I watched another video where they said orange juice is bad for you but an orange is ok... because the fiber in the fruit helps you to process all the sugar. (No fiber or very little in OJ).
How many oranges do you squeeze for your glass of juice. How many fruits go into your juicer to make your all natural fructose juice. What he is saying is, take these "no sugar added" juices AND CLAIM they are so good for you. When they have nearly as much fructose as a soda...But hey, if it comes from a watermellon it's natural, so it could never hurt you. Even when you can sit down and drink 1/2 a watermellon's juice in one sitting??? What is the fructose content of a watermellon, or 6 oranges
@optimumperformance when I saw a lecture by this guy he didn't look so fat in the body, he does have some pretty serious jowl flab though to be sure. Also, he's not a health expert as such, he's a researcher researching fructose metabolism, who knows what his dietary preferences are.
Dr. Mercola, at the end of this part of the discussion, "fruit juice" is mentioned and how ingesting it gives high levels of fructose rapidly. Here is my question to you. Was Dr. Johnson talking about natural fruit juices that are not from concentrate with no added hfcs and whatnot, or was he talking about the stuff that many consider "fruit drink" and not really fruit juice? I believe it was the former and the person I'm arguing with believes it was the latter.
@Crzykjn i dunno the answer but the vitamin C in fruit neutralizes uric acid. This along with the fact that fruits are generally not that high glycemic just says to me that Dr Mercola's crusade against fructose is highly overstated. He should be specific in referring to processed sugars and exclude fruit from his tirades. I can't remember if it was Johnson or the other guy Lustig, i think, explicitly said in a lecture that fruit is fine.
Amen to that. Especially if they're superfruits, like goji berries, which are so high in antioxidants and vitamin c and are a complete protein, so it blocks most of it. Mercola is going way too far with advocating 15 grams or less of fructose from fruit a day. That isn't much fruit and many people eat plenty of fruits such as berries, etc., and eat more than that and are just fine. I am one of them.
@imnotabear not totally fine is my understanding. it has the poison (fructose) but protected by the fiber in nature. juice it an ur in danger.. but even wit the fiber glycemic index is the key!!!!!!!!!
@Crzykjn He was talking about fruit juice, as if you were to take an orange and juice it yourself; not to be confused with "fruit drink" which is often table sugar, water, and coloring. Fructose is a sugar naturally found in many different fruits. HFCS has a higher percentage of fructose in it compared to regular corn syrup. Either way fructose is rapidly absorbed into the blood stream.
