@69ss396ch On a 2008 Chevy Silverado, there is no plug present under the dash, but the wires are already run. You only need to connect the brake control wiring with the vehicle wiring already present under the dash. If you would like to view the installation instructions, they are available on etrailer(dot)com. If you enter the year, make, and model of your vehicle and click on brake controllers, you will see all of the brake controllers available and there are instructions available with them.
The junction box is located under the dash, in the back left, up towards the dash. It is to the left of the brake pedal. The box will have a cover on it that will need to be removed in order to plug in the brake controller adapter wire.
First of all, thanks for the great videos! I have a 2003 F-350 Super Duty that came with the tow package. I am wanting to buy a P3 for my truck as an upgrade, but Tekonsha said that I will need to have the ECU reflashed in order for it to work. I called two Ford dealers locally, and they said this is correct, but unfortunately they do not have a reflash for that year. Is this true, and if so, what can I do to make the P3 work, other than running all new wire? I want to plug and play. Thanks!
You do not need to have the ECU flashed in order for the P3 to work properly. When originally installed it may cause an error code to illuminate a dash light. After installing the P3, you can disconnect the battery for at least three minutes, which could re-flash the vehicles computer and eliminate the error code. If the code does return you will need to take it to a dealer to have it flashed. I don't see any reason why the Ford dealer would not be able to re-flash your F-350's computer.
Got it! Thanks for the tech! Turned out Tekonsha steered me wrong, you are right, I needed no reflash. I ran an ohms test and everything looked good. When I jumped the ground and signal wires the trailer brake controller recognized the connection. Turned out it was actually the number 7 prong on the trailer harness that had worked it's way open somehow. Closed it up some, and bingo! Thanks again fo replying though!
You spent gobs of time on the obvious stuff (e.g. screwing in a bracket) and blew right past the more difficult stuff that people would come here for. i.e. Which pin do you touch to read the 7volts, and how did you know to set it to 5.6?
I'm sorry we did not include everything you needed in the video. The pin located in the 5 o'clock position when you open the cover (the number 2 position) is the pin you test. (Go to etrailer: click on the "Customer Service" tab in the top right corner: select "Wiring Installations": on the right hand side, select "Trailer Wiring Diagrams". This diagram should help you find the pin). We just randomly chose to set the brake controller at 5.6. The instructions will tell you where to set it.
Where do you plug it in on a 2009 Chevy Silverado?
