  • very good video! but instead of the pen, if you have any old arrows lying around they work really well. just take off the tip and the fletchif and voila, you have a nice little blow pipe, can also be shortened to be more portable and to stuff in a bug out bag or survival pack.

  • nice video, I'm making one today!

  • i danced to the into music

  • Good can opener. Mine always seem to suck.

  • Catchy tune !

  • Cool Informational Video, Now Cook Something.!!!

  • were does the fire go?under it or in the can

  • Hobo stove yay!

  • Thanks for the great info. Thank you to, for taking the chance and not wearing gloves so we could see what you were doing better. So glad you didn't cut yourself! Anyhow, it's knowing little things like this that may save your life someday. Not the no glove wearing thing, the stove making thing...lol.

  • brilliant very simple and cheep

  • Great video and easy to understand.

  • Thanks for posting this very helpful video. :-)

  • great video!

  • Green text at the start... possibly the least contrasting colour you could have picked.

  • cool music at the beginning.

    reminds me of 'fight club'.

  • people pay for these things? Morons...

  • Good way to screw up a pair of scissors and a good knive. Try a pair of tin snips and a drill motor. Pliers for handling the damper and cooktop.

  • @chuckbyf1 It's designed to be a 'low tech' solution on a 'need' basis. Tin snips, pliers and a drill defeat that, tho if you have them on hand I definitely condone using them. BTW the scissors were bought for a buck, and the knife is high carbon and didn't even require sharpening after.

  • @chuckbyf1 HA! He owned you bitch!

  • love it! thank you, i have been wanting something like this but all the homemade stoves seemed to require tools, like tinsnips, ect. this has easy instructions to make a simple stove with very common items and no skills, perfect for power outages. i understood, and feel i could easily do it and always remember how to do it. makes me want to look in the pantry for a can right now! oh and i learned to HIDE the good scissors. Im sure he was using cheap ones she left out for everyday use :)

  • why are people so critical of those who are trying to help Us?

  • I really like the four-legged tripod that has eight legs. :D

Seriously, you should use something more suitable than scissors. If you are in a true survival situation (not your bedroom), the last thing you want is a nasty gash that can end up getting infected. If I had a can like that I would just prop it up on a couple of rocks and use it as a pot. Remember the K.I.S.S. principle.

  • You got some nice videos check out some of mine you might learn a thing or two. The more you know the better prepared

  • I wonder how long these would last? I mean if you used it 2-3 times a day.

  • You know they make tin snips just for this sort of thing, good post though

  • this is the reason we have lots of band-aids in our survival kits.

  • Good work. How often do we find a tin can in a remote place? OFTEN. A smaller can would make a perfect Sterno stove. Have you considered flueing it more and dropping the other lid in the bottom so you could burn wood without it falling through the gaps?

  • @Odhinn222 I did try that, but didn't get the same results. With only air coming in from the top the fire often choked out because there was no flow.

  • awesome, but I think I'll use tin snips and wear gloves, 'cause I'm a chicken

  • cool thanks for posting it will become useful in the future.

  • Excellent! Liked, Shared, Tweeted...

  • wouldnt it make more sence to make the flue cut while the tin whole so it not colapse? or become to bent if someone heavy handed

  • @cr0cket01 Being corrugated the tin isn't as bendy as you may think.

  • THIS WORKS GREAT I USED IT ON A 3 WEEK WINTER SURVIVAL TRIP.

I am editing the videos right now I posted one of them in the video response come check em out

  • Green text on photos is awful.

  • Survive The collapse ! Help for your Family!

3w dot Virgil dot my e foods dot com

  • Good job, have a look at my Pot set stoves and let me know what ya think. Thanks for the Vid.

    Big T

  • where can you get a 7 inch can i can only find a 4.5inchs

  • nice i will make and use

  • I practice bushman survival and from Cornwall Ontario I will have a series of episodes by the end of the summer

  • You could take the top lid and make it smaller with the knife and drop it in there to make a better bottom.. Great video!!!

  • you could use a piece from an old aluminum arrow instead of the pen casing so you could leave it in there. good job by the way.

  • blah blah blah...your wasting my time man...

  • blh blh blh....waste of time man....

  • 10x a lot !!!

  • u cud also put the other lid part in at the base.

  • now how do u use it?

  • since when do you need to be corrdinated to peel off the label?

  • Nice soundtrack ...

Fight club sound track lol :)

    Gr8 vid!

  • great job on the stove do you have any vids of it in use .

  • I love the music ahahaha

  • its easier and less sharp to leave one of the tops of the can on and just make hole sin it

  • I foresee a trip to the emergency room...people use real tools while doing this....not an old rusty staghorn knives and scissors...they make tools for this that you can use a second time-after your done making this you'll be chucking those scissors and watch out that you don't impale yourself...take his advice at 5:50...where gloves...

  • @trollgoal love ur name lol some people, me, dont have REAL tools and dont want to invest in them for one use. might as well buy a professional made stove for the money and the storing of more stuff u dont hardly use. and i wont use the stove enough to warrant buying one. this exactly what i needed. i just want a stove for poweer outages and admitedly for the fun of it..

  • this was not $1.99 i had to buy scissor`s and a knife lol

  • Comment removed

  • nice.

  • if it is like you know windy you should get a plastic thing that can cover it but be careful should be 5 inches taller and 5 inches wider

  • I knew it was canadian by the can!

  • what is the fuel sorce?

  • i would'nt use a pin tube because if the plastic burns it bad for you. i sugest the same pin tube rape around aluminum foil and take it of then that makes a aluminum foil straw.

  • Hey Einstein...if it has four legs it's not a tripod.

  • @fightingbuddyboy The tripod is inside the combustion chamber.

  • The chemical layer on the inside of the can burns similar to plastic and is toxic to humans. The last thing you want is poison in your food. Great design I must say! I favourited this video! But I won't use the can for the first time to cook food. I will heat it greatly from the inside with fire and incinerate the chemical layer thereby cleaning the surface from it. Then I will wash it and still probably use aluminum foil on the inside. That way, you're safer and it will be clean of food parts.

  • This isn't actually applicable to be used safely as a stove because the inside of EVERY can is painted with a layer of chemical (possibly preservative or corrosion inhibitor) to prevent the actual metal of the can from reacting with the food stored inside it and contaminating it thus being a hazard to humans if consumed.

Unless you can remove the inside layer or perhaps wrap an aluminum foil around the inside of the can, it is not a safe or healthy option to follow in a survival situation.

  • "Today I decided to take a bit of a chance..." What a rebel!! nice stove! Hobo style if ya need one in a hurry.

  • thats the fight club song

  • im just gonna wipe the old juice out of here, and thats how she starts... pervish laugh in 3...2....1

  • terriby neat??? 3:09

    but nice video

  • i think it would be better to use an all steel one than one with coating or lining on the inside.

  • silly question...do you put your sticks/wood in the can or set your can on top of the fire?...

  • Thanks so much

I love learning how to do things with what I have!

  • OK, one more time. I got up this morning and no wind, so before I even had coffee I ran out and stoked my stove, cheated and used a propane torch to light it and put the lid on with my canteen cup on top. The lid kept choking off the flame so I set a couple of 3/4" sticks under the lid to hold it up. I tried to keep it stoked but feeding it thru the flue hole was tedious and after every feeding I had to blow it with a straw. After about 10 min, I had tiny bubbles in the cup. Rate: marginal.

  • OK, back again. I tried making this stove, used tin snips instead of scissors but got 'er done anyway. Went outside to test it and ran into an unexpected snag. I realized that it is useless.....in a high wind situation. So this is going to need a wind shield to keep it from scattering sparks or even fire all over the country side. Otherwise, still have high hopes for it when the wind dies down this evening...,,if it does. I still like the design and can't wait to try it out. Cheers....

  • Excellent little stove. I think I will give it a try.

  • dosnt look like it would boil water very good lol

  • I have a few questions.

1.wouldnt the air flow dampener break off after bending it a few times?

    2. Wouldn't flaming wood fall out through the holes on the outside of the base?

  • That is a sweet Idea .... look forward to trying it out, Thanks for the Video and demonstration ;D

  • the p0t alone is heavy enough for the support of your stove, the "tripod" you said mate, the thing s ur stove has 4 base support.. next vid pls show how u use it?

  • Nice stove! I´m also into stoves. Plz check out my vids and tell me ur opinions.

  • good ol' fight club

  • guess you dont have tin snips?

  • now how do i put that in my pack with out cutting it all to shit!

I guess it be ok to make for backyard/camp site camping or maybe once you get to camp, but what you pack in you must pack out

  • great video...one of many ways to prepare for what's coming....

  • a dremel would really make this much easier

  • good idea!!! thanks man

  • very nice stove dude and awesome deer horn knife

  • if it has four legs its not a tri -pod tri means3

  • very cool and clever

  • hobo stove!

  • mama is gonna cook you after you ruin her sissors

  • I have a search and rescue field training exercise next weekend and I think I might use this. I can never work those kerosene burners. Only problem is heat source. I wonder if a candle will be hot enough. Hmm. I'll try it out! Thanks!

  • Very nice! In an emergency you could make this in the woods.

    Sandy

  • Nice little 'stove', Tom.

But nicer still is your knife.

That is one sweeeeet little knife!!! (looks home made...)

    ☆☆☆☆☆

  • wow very cool, I can't wai to try this out!

  • wtf french apple juice

  • you should drop the top of the can you cut off to the bottem of the "stove" so the the coals and embers are contained

  • @trombonezrule

    No air flow no flame.

  • leave the label for kindling....lol

  • I would like to see your stove in action....

  • @caibarien71 me 2

  • If it's got four legs, it would be a quadpod not a tripod, tri=three.

  • @predracer04 He actually says, -im gonna make a tripod, ACTUALLY its gonna have 4 legs- =D

  • phat blade bro

  • At the beginning of the vid you hold the knife by the blade in your hand for no apparent reason. Be careful and show respect for sharp tools.

  • I like your choice of music for the intro and ending. Fight Club Soundtrack am I right?

  • why bother with making the "tri pod" seems like a pointless waste of time there. Don't want to be cruel here, but that tin doesn't look all that stable for holding up a container of water. Which is 75% of what you're going to be doing in a survival situation. Boiling water to purify it

  • nice shank

  • A pair of pliers might help.

  • good video

  • Nice vid

  • wot was the point in cutting the lid off if you put it straight back on at the end, oh yes of corse i shud hav thought, it makes it unstable so when your boiling a pot of water, thers a bigger chance it will fall on you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you have to cut the lid off so you can put the fuel into the can to burn

  • why the fuck does it cost $25!?!?

  • He meant that he was replicating a 25 dollar cook stove.

At 9:27 he said "The $25 cook stove for only $1.99"

  • you should make the vent hole first so the can is doesnt dent, also file down the eges to the dont cut your hands:)

  • This looks like a cool bit of gear, & I agree....why the hell should anyone fork out $25+ for a tin can?!

Putting this vid in my favs & going to try making one myself; ever heard of the PNG Microwave....she's a wild bit of gear but it works, just have to get a friend of mine to go over the details again, & yes people it is real & does work!!!

Great video & thanks for the info, cheers.

  • Now make a video of it at work! :)

  • That would be cool...

  • This may come in handy!

  • thats a big ass tin

  • what if you put the draft hole more towards the bottom ?

  • i saw this same thing on this website i found the other day when i was looking for stuff to get for my camping trip up in new jersey

  • u sound exzactly like tori from mythbusters!and good job on the vid

  • For those who are confused, your fuel goes inside, and your pan sits on top.

You can also just cut off one top, and make one flue flap there on the side, and then punch holes on the other side all the way around the can using the sharp side of a bottle opener, you know the way you open a can of tomato juice, to make your stove "grill". Put the fuel on the gound and the can on top. Less energy, but you do need dry ground.

  • WOW DUDE AWSOME VID very clever man i wouldnt have thought of that 50/5 five star man keep going make more vids like this plz

  • this is very clever, however the same result could be had with leaving the tin can as is, merely adding a large enough hole for the fire to breathe! the legs and "tripod" are not necessary. again, its very clever, but in a survival situation thats a lot of work to go through when you can just use the can as is. or, since it saves more nutrients anyway, you can just build a fire and make stew/soup inside the empty can, leaving it whole.

  • if i get this correct the fire goes inside the tin can?

And the food is suppose to go where?

  • you set a pot or pan on top of the can.

  • good vid but choose a better color for your fonts green was a bit hard to read.... Try a contrasting color not flourescents!

  • Tin snips anyone?

  • cool man

  • is that an empty can?

  • what is the point of the pen?someone please tell me

  • i think it's ment to be used to blow into, to get the fire going.

  • Platinum, The pen adds oxygen to the fire.

  • NICE !!

  • I'm not being stupid, um, but....where does the fire go? Does it go inside the can? Or does the can go on the fire?

Would the fire need to be hot coals before you cook? Would'nt the coals come out of the can?

  • awesome video dude

  • bla bla just do it!!!!!!!!

  • to chunky for me

  • If you want to cook something larger then you can also make one of these with a coffee can. Actually, thinking about it, i have a metal 55 gallon drum outside right now...

  • ahaha

  • what song is this?

  • It's from the soundtrack of the film "Fight Club" by the Chemical Brothers. Good Stuff BTW.

  • dont they coat the cans in something that would be bad if u burn it and breath it or the smoke from it could go in the food and kill u... i was f"***ing around with a can fire thingy tonight and when i burn the can a thick browning liquid starts comming off of it as the coat melts...

  • Kilelr, if the inside of the can is white, yes. If its just regular metal, no.

  • just get a propane camping stove or something that'll take forever to boil water

  • Great Info ! and it works too ! Oh and cool knife too !

  • Would that be able to support a frying pan filled with bacon?

  • you could just put that on the fire

  • um wont the flue get hot if thers a fire inside this thing :S

  • ya it will so you may have to buy a heat resistant pair of gloves

  • i could not hear a thing you said because This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG

  • Cool stove, but wouldnt the flue break after a couple bends?

  • i made one. its a great stove. but the flue broke off the 7th time i used it

  • Comment removed

  • best Hobo Stove i've seen yet. excellent video.

you did fine thanks for posting buzz

  • Tom, you might want to mention that the Hobo (tin can) stove is acceptable to use when there are "open fire" bans due to forest fire danger. In my neck of the woods, Vancouver Island, there are about 2-3 months of the year when open campfires are illegal. If you want to cook something you either have to carry an alcohol or propane stove.... or a hobo stove and the fuel is free.

For those who don't believe it works. Trust me. You can boil a pot of water with half a dozen pine cones.

  • Good vid.

You might want to add a small section of thin copper tubing instead of the pen.

  • Why ? do you think the pen might just melt,LOL

  • so you build a small fire inside the can then have a pan on top of it?

  • dude this song is on fight club!! omg fight club is my god fight club is my eight fold path.

  • Very, very good.

  • i like this song can i have it

  • I learned this in basic training but had foegotten about it thank!
