Basically take the scanned image, copy the layer, adjust the brightness and contrast setting to get a clear copy. Then use the colour range select , under the select tab ( you may need to tweak the sensitivity a little.), to grab everything white. Delete the selection. Viola! you have the image keyline on a transparant layer.
