Me and my father try to restore a Maybach HL 42 engine and the probem is we don't have pistons in good condition and we need new pistons for rebuilding it, can you help us, please?
@pepe190 we have pistons as a model. They are Mahle.I e-mailed them, they don't produce theese pistons.Tehn we searched pistons close as dimmensions but we didn't.We found a company who could produce them. They wold cut a piston in two, make a sand mould, then gravitationaly cast them, but is not ok.It should be a steel mould and casting under pressure.Maybe there are 6 pistons with pins and rings in this world for this engine. How can you help me?Thank you for your interess!!!
@sstefan84 Steel permanent mold yes, pressure casting no. Sterling pistons were gravity cast including those for Diesel engines. Pouring technique is important, aluminum alloy too. sil aluminium is desired using de-gassing pils brfore pouring. Can you adapt other pistons from other existing engines???
@honkie247 Look at the PTO side of the engine (particularly the bell housing). The guy behind the engine is touching wires to a starter on the side of the engine, and there are quite a few sparks... so is it really an air starter?
the backfire from that engine would make a soldier dive for cover lol
