pretty nice program but I can't compare it with phantom of the opera which was so powerfull and stunning. Of course it will get better and better through out the season but phantom of the opera was something else. Even though I am a big fan of Joubert, Patrick really is a great skater.

where is plushenko?? patrick is an amazing skater, but he is dancing, and dancing, on this program, where are the beautiful long edges that we al love about figure skating?? there are not simple movements, they are all soooo complicated step, and steps and more steps!! I dont like this new sistem because it makes the skaters gain points whit every extra step, but sometimes it loses the esential speed and long edges that figure skating is all about!
@taofolk Figure skating is not simply long edges and speed. The name of the sport says it all... it is about skating FIGURES. Whether the figures are jumps, spins, steps, turns or spirals, they all have their place in the sport and should be appreciated. Some skaters prefer to neglect the steps and turns to concentrate on jumps but that doesn't make them better skaters. There are many styles and that's what makes figure skating so interesting.
@rickyMontreal The problem is that the new system made the programs are exactly alike. The skaters are perfect clones of each other, and so will be the FS perfectly boring.Chan's program are really great,his moves are perfect, he glides beautifully, but i don't like that he constantly moves, and i don't understand that the choreography what wanted express. Sorry. The FS lost popularity(I hope this will not happen in Russia), i think the new system is one reason.

I know is repeating, but michelle kwan Us nationals 1998, pure beatiful edges, simple moves, its almos to say that you can learn her choreography because its so simple, but at the same time elegant!! combined with beatiful jumps, spins, spirals... and all the rest of the elements...

наверно нам зрителям чего там не видно чего видно судьям было .понятно что здесь канада не причем .но и казука получил 180 за произвольную на мире ну да было чистое катание ну не 180 баллов я полностью согласна с его местом но не с баллами .не понятно как они там судят.также я не могла понять на олимпиаде оценки юнаким за призвольную да было катание но не на 150. все равно судят нравится не нравится . а техника специалист у когото видит недокруты и тому подобное а когото просто в упрор нет
я не имею не чего против патрика ну все кричат его дорожки на одной ноге через весь каток где они парень хорошо владеет каньком но за это исполнение ставить 84 балла когда спортсмен упал три раза на прыжках где целотность программы еще раз доказывает в фигурном катании и при новой системе оценок справедливости нет.да он заслуженно стал чемпионом мира но простите что он такого нового сделал .он не прыгнул 4-3-3.или 4-4 да было чистое катание он много трудился ну не эти баллы полученные в москв
To all the dear russians that come here to give their precious opinions, just take a deep breath and go check the detailed scores on the internet. They are available. Just check on Wikipedia, Japan Open and find the link at the bottom of the page. Patrick skating skills are superior so he got 10 points more than Arthur. Patrick fell 3 times, got a 3 points penalty and 3 jumps got -3, -3, -2 GOE's. He was properly penalized and still landed many great jumps. He won fairly.
@rickyMontreal No, he wasn't. I don't care how "good" the rest of the program was. A 1 point deduction for a fall is stupidly small. NO-ONE (and I don't care WHO) should be able to win with 3 falls!!!!! And I would like to say that I am a Plushenko fan, but I would feel the same way if it was him! I think he was overscored in the SP at Salt Lake City. So there you go.

But that's a rule that is impossible to apply because skaters would never take any risks and would only try easier jumps. ANyway, the most amazing skate was from Elizaveta. 14 years old and doing 2 triple-triple combinations... So I just want you to know that I admire russian skaters as well.

Funnily enough guys like Plushenko have been doing quads and combinations for YEARS without fear of falling. Elizaveta was AMAZING. The baby Russian girls are incredible. And Gachinsky was gorgeous.

@ldominance just to let you know that this is not a jumping competition. even though you fall if you execute it well, that will give a good mark.. some of the jumps of other skater are down graded. so i think the score of patrick is fair..

Some judges seems to be wrong yes but this is my opinion I respect yours believe me ...my main point is that judges really need to know when to reward and when to hold on a bit .Overall I trust this judging system and for sure it is better than ever before.

Second, Patrick Chan is the 2009 World Silver Medalist, the 2010 World Silver Medalist and the 2011 World Gold Medalist. Have a bit of respect. @usadaria i have to disagree... I am a figure skater myself and personally i always loved japanese figure skaters but in this case i have to admit that Patrick is a hell of a skater and very rare to find in the world. Last year he was absolutely amazing and i thinks hes gonna stay here for a while. He has improved a lot since he started competing internationally and he has become a very good competitor and a tough one to beat.
so good..effortless.. makes each move so easy.. just give him a chance guys.. this is the debut of their FS and the first competition of the sesson.. to all bad comments over about him.. read the criteria for judging this season ok?
A skater with three falls, great transitions, sophisticated footwork and basic skills out of this world cand beat a skater with ONE FALL, poor transitions, so and so footwork and ordinary skills.
But I don't expect a Plushenko fanatic to understand that.
I love this program except for some places of music cut. Patrick just transformed in the off season to an artistic skater:) that's more like dancing than just move your arms and hands. Great job Patrick and Lori!
not bad, i like the flow he has from one element to the other, but it really is amazing that no matter how many falls he has. his PCS scores never get affected by it...

@aksana8030 187 он получил. И совершенно заслуженно. И он суперзвезда. Он мировой рекордсмен. С таким божественным катанием можно выиграть, даже если 3 раза упал. И он это доказал. А за носастика надо трястись, чтобы он не закачался в прыжке и с него не сняли драгоценный бал в ГОЕ, ибо у него всё держится на прыжках. У Патрика есть и технические элементы, и компоненты, и причём это всё на высочайшем уровне.
@MrElcapitano1st Успокойся! Компоненты Плющенко очень высокие, в прошлом сезоне он на этом турнире получил аналогичную сумму. Это раз. Техника Чана (прыжковая) слабая, потому что у него нет тройного акселя, он его исполняет чисто случайно. Это два. Чан пока что не суперзвезда, а посмешище благодаря судьям - это три!

Great start, Patrick. A vast improvement on your arm and hand movememts but I'd still like to see more emotion conveyed all through out the program. That's the one missing ingredient and I know you'll bring it next time.

Patrick never fails to take my breath away. His style is superb and the choreography is brilliant. He still has a lot of work to do, but I can see the greatness in the program already.
I prefer this set-up to the triple axel than one he did at Skate Canada. I realize it's more difficult but it's more in line with the music.

Many Japanese figure skating fans who went to Japan Open were impressed with Patrick's gorgeous skating so much.
(Some of them didn't seem to have been his fans until they watched his performance live.)
He must have worked so hard to improve his upper body's movement.
I'm sure he will polish this extremely difficult program more next time.

To all the dear russians that come here to give their precious opinions, just take a deep breath and go check the detailed scores on the internet. They are available. Just check on Wikipedia, Japan Open and find the link at the bottom of the page. Patrick skating skills are superior so he got 10 points more than Arthur. Patrick fell 3 times, got a 3 points penalty and 3 jumps got -3, -3, -2 GOE's. He was properly penalized and still landed many great jumps. He won fairly.

@rickyMontreal No, he wasn't. I don't care how "good" the rest of the program was. A 1 point deduction for a fall is stupidly small. NO-ONE (and I don't care WHO) should be able to win with 3 falls!!!!! And I would like to say that I am a Plushenko fan, but I would feel the same way if it was him! I think he was overscored in the SP at Salt Lake City. So there you go.

@walover165 So what you are saying is that the skater that falls the least should win the competition. But that's a rule that is impossible to apply because skaters would never take any risks and would only try easier jumps. ANyway, the most amazing skate was from Elizaveta. 14 years old and doing 2 triple-triple combinations... So I just want you to know that I admire russian skaters as well.

@rickyMontreal No, what I'm saying is that maybe he should bloody try to land the damn things instead of just falling off them. Funnily enough guys like Plushenko have been doing quads and combinations for YEARS without fear of falling. Elizaveta was AMAZING. The baby Russian girls are incredible. And Gachinsky was gorgeous.

@ldominance just to let you know that this is not a jumping competition. even though you fall if you execute it well, that will give a good mark.. some of the jumps of other skater are down graded. so i think the score of patrick is fair..

Some judges seems to be wrong yes but this is my opinion I respect yours believe me ...my main point is that judges really need to know when to reward and when to hold on a bit .Overall I trust this judging system and for sure it is better than ever before.

@usadaria Why do you come here to make ridiculous comments if you don't know anything about figure skating. First of all, he is not American, he's Canadian. Second, Patrick Chan is the 2009 World Silver Medalist, the 2010 World Silver Medalist and the 2011 World Gold Medalist. Have a bit of respect. You say you don't like him, fine, that's your right to do so. However, he is one of the greatest skaters ever and you could at least admit that.

@usadaria It is absolutely impossible to believe that you are a figure skating coach. You only give general and empty comments like ''I know who is good who is bad''. What is it exactly that you consider bad in Patrick's skating ? Is it his outstanding footwork, his fabulous transitions, his incredible music interpretation, his marvelous spins and turns, his jumping technique ? Patrick broke all skating scores last year and the international judges love him. Who are you to say he is bad ?

@usadaria i have to disagree... I am a figure skater myself and personally i always loved japanese figure skaters but in this case i have to admit that Patrick is a hell of a skater and very rare to find in the world. Last year he was absolutely amazing and i thinks hes gonna stay here for a while. He has improved a lot since he started competing internationally and he has become a very good competitor and a tough one to beat.

I love this program except for some places of music cut. Patrick just transformed in the off season to an artistic skater:) that's more like dancing than just move your arms and hands. Great job Patrick and Lori!

@aksana8030 187 он получил. И совершенно заслуженно. И он суперзвезда. Он мировой рекордсмен. С таким божественным катанием можно выиграть, даже если 3 раза упал. И он это доказал. А за носастика надо трястись, чтобы он не закачался в прыжке и с него не сняли драгоценный бал в ГОЕ, ибо у него всё держится на прыжках. У Патрика есть и технические элементы, и компоненты, и причём это всё на высочайшем уровне.

@MrElcapitano1st Успокойся! Компоненты Плющенко очень высокие, в прошлом сезоне он на этом турнире получил аналогичную сумму. Это раз. Техника Чана (прыжковая) слабая, потому что у него нет тройного акселя, он его исполняет чисто случайно. Это два. Чан пока что не суперзвезда, а посмешище благодаря судьям - это три!

Great start, Patrick. A vast improvement on your arm and hand movememts but I'd still like to see more emotion conveyed all through out the program. That's the one missing ingredient and I know you'll bring it next time.

Patrick never fails to take my breath away. His style is superb and the choreography is brilliant. He still has a lot of work to do, but I can see the greatness in the program already.
