They don't make 'em like they used to.
@OldTelivisionRocks i agree. the dancing and filming is all done differently than it was back then. today the dance moves are either lame or simply stupid and everything is prerecorded and nothing improvised (like the newsies shouting angry "nos!" in their own way.

this whole thing is just a train wreck from beginning to end; which is a shame-- j.a.c. redford's score and allan menkin's music are actually pretty good. and if you look at the technicians behind it, it's actually an impressive hollywood team. but the whole project just seems like a convergence of a lot of talented components that just didn't spark. from a downright -forgettable generic cast, to a saccharin script, to boring single-camera, tightly shot musical sequence coverage
@REDIKER54 I will say that the script wasn't the best in the world, but how can you all the cast forgettable? I thought spot and crutchy were two of the best characters I've ever seen in a musical!
@TheDisneyFan111 The director's not the important guy when it comes to movies like this. The composers, the choreographers, the actors, the writers; they make or break these movies. And even the best directors can't do much when they have terrible actors to work with. THESE kids are incredibly talented, but the HSM kids are only good at looking good in 20 pounds of makeup, super bright lighting, and a few hours' of digital touch-ups.
Wow, such an awful musical and from the same guy whot wrote such wonderful music for Beauty and the Beast and Little Shop of Horrors. Kenny Ortega's direction and choreography are substandard. @bluepurpleartemis Shut up if I know what's good for me??? Just Who in the hell do you think you are mouthing off to like that? Just another bent out of shape Glee loving loser who can't tell the difference between music and two sticks being rubbed together? It's a pity you have the manners of an untrained animal and the sharp wit of a bolwing ball. LOSER
@pickerman123 actually i hate glee but i do like fire, and i meant people are just going to keep replying if you don't stop saying bad stuff about newsies. why did you watch it if you don't even like it anyway?
They should have ended the movie with Jack leaving in the carriage. Better ending, makes you think that Jack finally got where he'd been dreaming of going.
I love when they start singing Carrying the Banner again. It's like they're starting to realize "Wait...strike's over, now we gotta go back work...dangit."
I'm pretty much in love with this movie xP This is one of the most fantastic movies ever made!!! I love it and I'm really excited it's on Youtube. Now I can watch it wherever I go ;) Haha!!! Newsies <3
Was spot the guy from Brooklyn? Man this movie has so much great music. I hadn't seen it in years, and I woke up singin the Santa Fe song... so I decided to watch it. I fell in love with it all over again. Long live the Newsies!!!
we started watching this movie in social studies today (8th grade) & i couldn't wait to see the rest! awhh i hate Jack when he traded sides but now that he's back.. i'm in looove again!<333 ohhhh Jack (christian bale-batman!) i love you. wish i played the part of sarah.
You have to understand that Disney all but killed the movie when it came out. The trailers were horrible. It did better on cable and sees some late night play at AMC. I saw it and thought it was just plain overlooked. I also enjoyed movies like Xanadu which had an award winning score. It translated to stage very well and is now in Chicago. A Newsies stage play seems out of sight but you hear rumblings here and there. Today's labor laws are very strict in regards to children in projects.
'Bye spot!' LOL! I didn't notice that spot was riding with in the carriage at the end! So funny! love this movie! Its the worlds best movie. Not too serious, and not too comical. just a great mix. too bad no one knows about this movie. I asked everyone that wasn't in my class if they saw this movie and they all said NO! can't believe it. actually i can, but still love the movie! :)
Now I'm going to watch Little Women to have more of...well you know, more of that sexy thing.

It's delightfully atypical for a Disney, and whoever said that the kiss was intense, right on the money whoever you are.

That was some intense kiss for a Disney flick. But everything about Christian Bale is intense.

i love this movie, did anyone know that this was made by most of the same people who made High School Musical?

I love when they start singing Carrying the Banner again. It's like they're starting to realize "Wait...strike's over, now we gotta go back work...dangit."

I think the only thing that could've made this better would be a nice Villain song. Aside from that, it's perfect!

Nobody really knows who he is. Most people refer to him as "The Kid in Orange"... But I think it's Tumbler??

Great movie. Was one of my favorites as a kid. Couldn't believe it was on Youtube. And after more than a dozen years it hasn't lost it's charm.
