Thanks dawtherbunny - Never felt better to be wrong! Appreciate your correction. It was a different Robert Hoover, one year younger than AeroComm Bob.

@jwalk77ful This information is incorrect! The Bob Hoover you speak of was a different Bob Hoover. Not THE R.A. Bob Hoover. R.A. Bob Hoover is still very much alive. If he passed away in 2010 how is it that he was at this year's EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI? lol

Thanks for posting this, I am a huge Bob Hoover fan, I admire him as a pilot, a man and an Amercan. Somewhere, in an attic, there's a box with some old 8mm film of Bob flying his P-51. I anyone runs across that, please post it.
Bob hoover used to perform at Castle AFB in the late 50s to the 60s in a P-51.He put on a really great show.I would like to see the film of him flying a Sabreliner thru the hoops, but North American didn't want to release the film because they thought it would scare prospective customers.
@MicahTappe It was probably someone who tried to duplicate part of his routine and ended up in trouble and almost crashing. Or maybe they just hit the "dislike" box by accident. Either way, how can anyone dislike PERFECTION??!!
I had the pleasure of being an eye witness to his show at Sun - N- Fun one year. It was an even bigger treat after having read about him in my autographed copy of Chuck Yeager's biography.
Never had the chance to see Mr. Hoover fly in person so thanks for posting! I have had the extreme pleasure of meeting and assisting Bob at the 09 Reno Air Races as I worked for RARA and helped him get to his VIP tent area and get a golf cart ride for him after. Although he took off walking not wanting to wait for the cart to arrive. He still has all that energy!
Hoover lived not to far away from me and saw him many times. Story behind being grounded I believe At the Great American Airshow someone said he was acting strange lost his medical. About 1 1/2 years later got it back but could only fly at airshows. Someone else flew his planes there. He was finally grounded only after insurance companies refused insurance. Both planes in Smithsonian
The greatest stick and rudder pilot of all time and probley the best we will ever see. I think he does not fly at all anymore thank god for the hours of video we have of him flying.
Quel mec!! Utiliser la finesse d'un avion et mettre à profit les forces sans brusquer l'avion, je pense que c'est le seul a pouvoir faire çà; quelle maîtrise des commandes!! C'est extraordinaire et beau.
I wonder how many cylinder assemblies he murdered per year LOL? If they lasted, say, a thousand hours, it certainly puts the shock cooling story to rest! Anybody out there who wrenched on his Commander?
talked to a fella that did about ten years ago. said he was a mechanic part time between '83 and '84. anyway, said that the only thing they ever had to keep an eye on was the welds on the engine mounts. they had to keep inspecting for cracks due to g-loads. but he said the Commanders held up well because Bob never pulled more then 2 neg g's with it and no more then 5 positive if he could help it. interesting conversation though. never mentioned any engine problems.
I met Bob Hoover back in the early to mid 80's in Latrobe PA when he was employed by Rockwell International traveling around the country performing aerobatics in a Shrike Commander. Awesome to see him shut the engines off and roll the plane around.
He was Yeager's backup pilot in the Bell X-1 program and flew chase for Yeager in a P80 Shooting Star during the first Mach 1 flight.
He was a very personable, quiet guy. Signed a lot of autographs for the kids.
I Talked with him several times ,a true Gentleman.Very nice guy.I live near him In Socali. The last time was at Santa Monica airport DC-3 Commemoration.
hi , i knw that wt bob hoover does is magic , but in this video we can that when starting the right engine , he pushes the left throtle for restarting the right engine ?
Thank you sooooooo much 4 this Video, heard so much about Bob Hoover but never saw him fly ! Heard the story about the FAA wanting to take away his Pilot License because he was over 80! LOL , he should have invited them 4 a short Flight! the greatest pilot from the greatest country !.... Greetings from Germany
