all im saying is muay thai is an absoloutly amazing martial art or i wouldn't have studied it for 6 yrs but tkd is great aswell it just takes longer to learn
why is everyone hating on tkd if you research this thai boxing is one of the most easy to learn martial art it is also power based and a big emphasis on clinching . but anyone who studies tkd knows they also use knees elbows and punches just not in european or american wtf , itf or tagb . in real tkd they have great control efective kicks and brillian fitness baisicly
I do not believe for a minute that this guy was the cream of the crop in the Taekwondo world. He leads at least 3 times with a front leg side kick. Almost all of his moves are anticipated by Cheng. His base is weak, as is any TKD practitioner in my opinion. I am not hating TKD as it is my main discipline. However dancing around and trying to be elusive is clearly useless when your power is ineffective and all of your attacks can be seen coming.
I feel like this is pokemon. Taekwondo is grass type and Muay Thai fire type. Muay Thai does critical hits on TKD, haha. TKD guy is mainly good at long range, but MT guy catches all his kicks and TKD guy can't get close to try to win with punches, because MT guy might use knees and elbows and what not.
Muay Thai is Thailand traditional fighting. We use it for protect our country before Taekwondo,so please be respect other countries cultures. Dont take our tradition to Korean
i agree, i am a Filipino from the Philippines. i respect all nationalities own martial arts too. its just not easy to say things in absolute conclusion. Thailand represents the whole or the face of Southeast Asia and its culture and that includes its martial arts. Filipinos have saYAW ng kamataYAN (Yaw-Yan) similar to that of muay thai but its hybrid and a little bit modern in form and style. but we also have Sikaran which is similar to Taekwondo.
the take woondoo guy is such a loser,..weak.!lol,compared to that muai thai guy,!,i think take woondoo is not a martial art any more but a dance to me,..hahalol funny after he slip through by he's own kick.,lol
Imma say the same thing I said on the video where TKD devastated MT, It is funny how when MT wins, TKD is considered weak....but when TKD wins, it was because MT fighter sucked...he wasn't a real MT fighter, lol...so imma say the opposite on this one...this TKD fighter wasnt good, not smart anyways...not a single time did he think of using his other leg every time he got his foot grabbed...hook kick, roundhose, anything...actually, he couldnt kick on the face...chocolate rule, his fault.
This match was fought in 1993 in the K-1 Illusion Karate world cup under seidokaikan rules.
umm this guy is a pro, at that time he was the best TKD had to offer, or at least 1 of the best. its hard to kick fast when against muay thai, because all the low kicks are blocked by raising
leg so knee is at the same level as your hips, and all high kicks offer a chance to take you down.all Tkd always suck when fougth against Muay thai under any rules.the next vid is " Changpuek Vs Rick Roufus ".
the mauy thai fighter was faster and stronger more powerfull its the fighter not the art look at mma ufc a fights a fight you lose some you win tkd rules haha
if only there is a video here that shows real muay thai against other discipline and has no rules and also by excellent practitioner that would be better... tournaments has rules that disables far more deadly techniques from all discipline.
you cant put a tae kwon-do fighter against a muay thai fighter just because its a fighting sport. that exactly the same as putting a basketball team agains a football team, its both a team sport while using a ball. that wouldn't pack out very well either. muay thai is made for fighting another muay thai fighter, a tae kwon-do fighter is that 2, also basketball is made for that, and so on.
the TKD guy is sloooooooooooooow kicking. have u ever seen a pro TKD fighter involved in a fight? c'mon, this guy is a newbie for sure. anyway, good job for the muay thai practicer.
@FranzDeRoma umm this guy is a pro, at that time he was the best japan had to offer, or at least 1 of the best. its hard to kick fast when against muay thai, because all the low kicks are blocked by raising leg so knee is at the same level as your hips, and all high kicks offer a chance to take you down
this Muay Thai guy is kicking with his hands to the side, leaving for a suck punch. It's wrong. I don't know who train him but I can sure tell you that is not old school teach. When you kick or knee it's fellow with the elbow, my son.
i must admit the MT fighter clearly won that - and i practice TKD, the problem was the TKD fighter was fighting like he was in a points fight, for the record for those who dont know TKD , points fighting isnt the only fights we do, TKD can be very effective "on the street"
@nXdecline all martial arts can be effective on the streets if the artist uses the technieqes properly and at the right time, I can name many very good Taekwondo fighters who can fight almost anyone from any style and win, and who do. You can't juge an art on one fighter.
@ddandbd thats true, but martial arts such as tkd , and karate are known as self DEFENSE arts while for something such as muay thai is a COMBAT art that is for returning, and stopping the attacker completely
@nXdecline yeah MT is definatly more brutal in some ways, i don't know much about Karate but I do TKD to a pretty high level an can tell you that the traditonal style that i train goes back to how it started and is a form of unarmed combat. but there are styles that only train in sport and self defence. they do give it a bad reputation. personaly i really like both tkd and MT
@ddandbd do me a favour and check out muay boran, it is the original form of muay thai that was used back in the ancient days that thai soldiers were required to be as adept with they;re weapons as unarmed,
haha not even close, TKD doesn't even stand a chance. I don't understand why it got so popular in the US, it no where as useful and practical as most of the other Martial arts. This thai fighter didn't even have to bother using any punches and he still utterly destroyed the TKD guy.
We have a Shotokan Karate school where i live, and it's fun watching the local kids who do demonstrations of their chosen discipline.
Can't help thinking that a lot of it is show boating, and totally impracticle in the real field of battle? Just my opinion, don't make it right, or wrong.
shotokan is pretty shit but kyokushin is a pretty good stlye but it has it's weaknesses the best strikers in mma who have a kyokushin backgroung also do thai boxing, look at gsp and bas rutten
@kookz71 that is the "ugly "side on the shotokan .Depends of the student ,i miself have begged him to teach me how to break a arm ,a leg ,how to be good at close combat ,and how to do flashy moves ,you know ,to impres girls. But at a demonstration everithing that goes is just a sport ,to make it look good .Maiby i am lucky ,cause my sensei have teached me krav maga ,some judo throws ,the shotokan flashynes :)),but everithing depends on the one that fights and the one that teaches him.
If thai boxing is so crap, then why is it an almost essential skill to have, alongside Brazillian Jiu-Jistu, for a huge percentage of professional mixed martial arts fighters?
You do get some guys from a karate background, but they are few and far between.
@kookz71 While Muay Thai has become one of the fundemental styles needed for mma it is important to rember that one of the reason karate tends to be less pratical in the ring [and sometimes the street] is that many of the moves were never desinged for competion. Lets say you have a karate fighter in an mma match. He has learned for the duration of his training to focus on chops, spearhands, eye gouges, kicks, punches from stable positions, and unorthodox kicking. continued in next reply
muay thai is and always will be the best striking fight style after of course muay boran TKD is impractical against anyone who doesn't also do TKD lets face it this guy got owned and the thai fighter (pun) didn't use punches knees or elbows if he had closed the distance at the start and clinched the othe guy it would have KO'd him in a sec
You don't know what you're talking about. Neither of these are the best styles because they're both sports made for the ring. Look into some traditional okinawan karate styles. They were made for the battlefield or the street. In sport styles, it really just depends on whose workout is more vigorous. In this case, it's obvious the thai guy's is.
its not just how much or how hard you train, its what you train, if all you can do is kick and the other gy knows that then your pretty much fucked even if you're a pro weather its a ring or in the streets where you can get kicked in the cojones as soon as you separate your legs some styles are ultimately more practical i dont see why people have such a big problem with that they always say it depends on the fihter well guess what no matter how good you are at thumbwrestling ucan alwaysgetfucked
it is definitely how hard you train, take shaolin monks for example they train twenty four seven and could kick both of these fighters ass. You might say Shaolin-do is impractical which is true in some aspects but if you have seen one of their demonstrations you know not a lot of things hurt them.
any shaolin monks ever been in mma mmmay i ask? it seems to me like one of those stlyes that's all about spiritual guidance and whithout much focus on what is practical
Excuse me? MMA they don't even let you kill. I bet you in a real MMA fight, Shaolin will bust those fighters eyeball out or pull out there adam apple. Come one, tell MMA to go to a real war battle then we will make on judgment on their skills.
Demonstrations don't mean a thing. Full-contact fighting and sparring are the only things that really count. I'm sure their tricks look impressive, but any boxer can look impressive just hitting the bag as well. Doesn't mean they'll be good in a fight.
Though some of the kicks didn't seem so different (though the Korean fighter also seemed to prefer throwing side kicks), the Thai fighter clearly has superior balance and execution in delivering them.
Why does the Korean fighter have his hands down for so long during the match?
What made the Korean fighter's mid-section and high kicks so catch-able? The Thai fighter also threw such kicks, but none of them got caught.
Muay Thai is excellent, so are many other disciplines. It is unfair for people to risrespect T.K.D. It has it's strengths, and weaknesses, just like everything.

This match was fought in 1993 in the K-1 Illusion Karate world cup under seidokaikan rules.
The TKD fighter is clearly wearing a blackbelt and a red sash. His name is Shin Ushikoshi and I don't know much about him but I think he was supposed to be the Japanese ITF champ. The Thai fighter is Changpuek Kiatsongrit and he fought (and won against)
the best his generation had to offer.
