It's a travel except in the professional leagues and to those who could care less. I'd like you to take a pass in a game and do a couple jab steps with your right then take a step with your left and see if people don't look at you funny. If it's on a layup and there are people around you, you most likely won't be called on it, but that's not the point. Basketball players still make that play millions of times. check out the NBA rule book.

this move just looks easy..but its far from it. the coordination involved is crazy, you cant just take two steps to avoid defenders and then find yourself directly under the basket and stop, that will be a travel so you have to finish, crazy move by a crazy player, dwayne wade. (in a good way)

k for all yall who think this travelling, nba players are allowed a "half step" when they're driving up to the rim. this means they can take the first step of the "3" steps when they catch the ball to stop dribbling, and the refs wont call it a travel, becuz in fact he did not take 3 steps with the ball firm in his hands.
