@Candybabe516 it may look fun but me and my English horse beat a 17 in a English saddle. You can go just as fast in English and Western saddle. Just saying :)
@Candybabe516 well u could make those turns in an english saddle... ive seen people do it bareback, I would fly off but somepeople can lol. The only time i would say english is harder than western is if you were running barrels. (like running and diping around th barrels not troting or lopeing around them.)
Good run, and I'm not saying anything bad about english, but to everyone saying they'll just try barrel racing on their horse in their english saddle, if your horse isn't trained, they'll drop their shoulder and can fall over, I've seen it happen t a very slow canter. And english saddles are not meant for barrel racing, acceptable, but if you really want to barerl race at all, get a barrel saddle.
@snowballjet I TOTALLY agree with you - but once again, your point has nothing to do with the saddle. It has to do with the training & riding exclusively. I'm assuming you're only "western", & therefore think tight turns & balance only happen in "western" sports. Absolutely not! Dressage is ALL about balance, collection, & control. When show jumping (speed sport), you have to cut sharp corners w/correct striding to make the next fence. & Polo is all about agility, etc, etc...
@snowballjet Personally, I think the Spanish & Portugese have this right. There is no “english” or “western” styles. Check out this vid they call “working equitation”. To them, good riding on a well trained horse is just that, & they attribute the value a good rider has to a good horse….
@snowballjet .....The video is titled “Working Equitation Speed Test. Beja 2008”: it combines barrel racing, polo bending, jumping, dressage, trail obstacles, key hole, & bull fighting. If we Americans just dump our prejudice labels, maybe we’d shut up & learn how to ride! ;)
@QH1100 Absolutely! What I meant by the saddle thing is really that the barrel saddle is made for that, just as a dressage saddle is made for dressage, though it may be used for jumping or flatwork if you wanted. Not that it changed anything, really. I only rode western at the time of that comment, though recently started riding english. It's definitely difficult, and for me being new to it, requires even more balance than western! (:
@snowballjet We sound like we're on the same page! ;) Every different type of saddle in the world was developed for a special purpose on horseback - but the good rider can adapt! :) And well-trained horses won't know the difference if he has a good rider! And a non-trained horse & poor rider - well, that's just a recipe for disaster if they try any of the high speed sports! LOL
@QH1100 And also, I checked out the video.. That's amazing. Makes me want to move to Portugal, haha.. Around here everyone seems to do strictly one thing in one discipline, and is closed minded about anything else.
@snowballjet Is that not the most awesome riding you've ever seen? RIding like that is how I aspire to ride, & I'll keep learning to try, even if I never actually get all the way there! Oh, & did I mention my dream horse is either a Spanish Andalusian or a Portugese Luisitano? LOL
I can't stand this "english" & "western" division thing.... When will people get that good riding & training is good riding & training, & is irrelevant of the saddle, gear, or attire we use? Sure, english saddles are good for taking jumps so that you don't inadvertantly gut yourself with the horn, but come on people, it doesn't matter! If you can sit a horse, you should be able to sit it in any saddle, or BAREBACK - so stop labeling horses & riders & pigeon-holing them into sports!
that was great!! i love that you tried barrel racing!! most people that ride english wont have anything to do with western and most western riders wont have anything to do with english!!
Wow, you know what? You had better turns than most western people do. At a bad 4-h barn over here, the 'good' (they think so, but the truth is they suck.) riders don't do it half as good. You could start teaching beginners. You should take a couple lessons too though, from a professional.
Thanks for the praise! I think the English training helps balance the turns but it also makes me want too much contact at times too! I did go to a barrel racing clinic with Charmayne James and she was very helpful!
@SpotsRule98 why dont you just say great job, and its even a rodeo sport... even people that use a barrel saddle, are beginning, dont knock them, be glad they are involved... no judgement either way....
its a thing.... glad to be doing it, and glad you like it... i am totally impresses with english riding... i as a barrelracing think it would take more time... that is why i barrel race... its easier..... so why in the world would i judge her because she already can prove she can
ok ashleyfeild71. why dont you shut your fucking bitchy ass slut skank mouth shut. She did good nad she did good becuase she was in a dressage saddle you dont see that everyday. So good job.
Wow for the people flipping out that an English rider wants to try a barrel run. "OMG you have to go buy a different saddle to try that" BS
Fine, we'll swap saddles for a simple barrel fun run if you never try to jump anything without slamming back on your horse's back and yanking the bit and continue to generally never take lessons. Stereotypes AWAY!!!
what the crap are you English people doing our thing and trying to acked like you can do it when you really suck at and are just trying to get the true barrel racers to look bad and come do english because wont work on me ok so lay of you crapen person cause it's not funny to us barrel people ok oh and your video made me lol when you were flaping your arms like that oh and I could of ran a 13 in that arena you little English proper person lol
Why are you so negative? Sure if I have been running barrels for years maybe I could run faster but this was my first try! I am not trying to make anyone look bad and this is my old 26 year old horse! He had fun too! I am now running barrels in a western saddle and I am loving it. No , I don't run a 13 and probably never will but at least havve managed to run a 15.6 So what if I am a 4d person I am having FUN!!!
she was just preobably doing it to see if she likes it or not!!!
god just because she might not be a champion doesnt mean crap!
GIVE HER A BREAK!!!
ohh and good job staying on:) i bought a barrel racing horse and then my western saddle was in my trailer so i tried it in my english and i slipped right off then my horse was turning:) lol
Horsewild: Do some research. Barrel racing, Keyhole, Flag, and Polebending are also national gymkhana sports in Pony Club around the world. Guess what kind of saddle they're riding in? :P
Barrel racing is for anyone who feels like doing it. But it is NOT for poor sportsman trying to dictate who's allowed and who's not.
Wow - you are negative! It is hard to change riding styles when you have been riding one way all your life. I am riding barrels Western now and I am doing it right (brought a check back from the IBRA Murpheesboro, Tn super show). And who are you to tell people if they should ride barrels or not!
doesnt matter ha i do barrels bareback alot more challenging...barrels gets kinda boring after u do it 398526x soo i add obsicles...like jumps in the middle so u have to jump 2 get to the next barrel....makes everything slower tho o.-
Ive never rode english, but I have loped the barrels with my horse for work on my seat. its really not much different for me, mostly cus i dnt always use the saddle(i get yelled at for tht cus its not very safe =P lol) but if ur gnna go faster thn wat u did i suggest switching to western, cus any faster and ur horse wld leave u behind XD lol
Kudos. And any barrel racer who can't keep their butt in an english saddle, really ought to learn how. You have to be able to REALLY balance to stay in one at anything faster than a slow canter around a barrel. Due to saddle fitting issues, I had to train my futurity horse in my english saddle on Barrels and Poles for the first part of the show season.
I regularly see western riders who can't sit a barrel horse that well at about the same speed.
Well, i couldnt do it in an english saddle. Finished horses use their hind ends and drop them So with most horses when you leave their barrel its a bumpy ride.. it would be difficult to do it without the horn
Wow - you are a very close minded person. What is wrong with trying new things? How come it is always English vs Western and vice versa? When we get better at it I will try it Western as I will need a horn to hold on when the speed picks up!!
English or Western doesn't matter. If you are a good rider it won't matter.
Nice run!!!
