  • hello, i play the pipes and developed this naturaly (by acident) and i fellow piper tried this to your exact instructions and it didnt work, to be honest its not a skill that can be taught :-/

    good video tho

  • "if you can't do that, you will diiieee...."

    love it. and fairly helpful.

  • It's very easy to do on a pratice chanter. I can now play for an indefinate period of time without stopping if I don't want to.

  • What a crazy and wonderful video.

Can I just clarify, though? You don't do the water spraying whilst playing the chanter, right...? :-)

  • Ok,nice!

I already did this with my beatboxing ;)

The question is : Can we get air and take it at the same time?¿?

    Thx!

  • excellent. merci beaucoups pour ça

  • molto interessante il respiro circolare.. ci vorrebbe un buon tutorial in italiano:)

  • I think im doing somethin wrong...why is water commin out my nose! an my lips turn purple?

  • The BEST explanation I've seen of the mechanics behind the technique of circular breathing.

    Many thanks for posting.

  • loved the explanation. really to the point and easy to understand. thank you.

  • can u explain this in spanish ?

  • It works!

  • THANKS MITCH!!!!!!!!!!!

    5*****

    :o)

  • As soon as I start to inhale through the nose, the pressure drops from the mouth. Am I supposed to make an air pocket in my mouth while inhaling? Clearing this up would really help me out :)

    Thanks in advance

  • You must feel clearly when you close your muscle in your throat, with the water for example.

I think you should then try to blow in a pipe with a very small hole. A piece of plastic pipe from a pen should do the job.

And yes, you must make an air pocket as big as possible, filling your cheeks BEFORE INHALING, and BEFORE EXHALING. You empty this pocket throught your lips, while your throat muscle is closed, with your cheeks muscles.

    Keep trying, and tell us...

  • If you can't exhale, you will diiiiiiiie, mouhaha! Dude, you're quite the joker.

I think I'll only understand with a live performance...that's if I ever get it.

  • ur breathing is not as steady as it should be. if u want to circular breathe the right way u have to keep the pressure the same all the way through.

  • Nice vid thx. Gotta go practice :/

  • lol red reed, good vid ill have to try it

  • Can this techique be used with a clarinet instead? I'm myself a beginner clarinetist (3 months) but I would like to try it and whatsmore this is one of the more clearer videos.

  • Hi,

Don't know about clarinet circular breathing. Perhaps your just need to inhale, if the clarinet air flow is large enough to renew oxygen in your lungs. The problem with the practice chanter is that the reed hole is very small, so you have to Inhale/Exhale to get enough oxygen not to asphyxiate...

I think it's easier to start learning "Inhale/Exhale" with a very small section pipe (insulation of electric wire, ball-point pen pipe, etc..), bubbling in a glass of water for exemple.

    Tell us.

  • This technique is very possible on a clarinet. It just takes a little practice! Once you figure it out though, its pretty easy. The problem is building up muscle strength in your ligature. Good luck!

  • Thanks alot.

This is one of the best videos about circular breathing. This techique can be used with a clarinet, right?

    Time to train.

  • Thank's a lot

I able to do that now...

after seeing a lot of video

This is the right way to teach how to do Circular breathing

    once again Thanks Sir

  • i can do the water part just not the circular breathing part lol

  • Me too

  • thank you a straight forward example

    will now go & practice

  • I understand and tried the water example... it went everywhere!lol

    Thanks for posting.

    P.s. I still can't do it!

  • wow this is really straight forward and common sense

  • i can do circular breathing, but when i do it, the chanter sound goes higher when i breath in and lower when i breath out. I can't get them to sound exactly the same throughout the whole tune:(

  • Same for me, One hour to understand, one week to do it, and at least some years to play smoothly. Don't worry... so many players don't even try, keep on!

  • That's the most straight forward explanation of circular breathing I've ever seen!!

    Thanks

  • Tell us if you can do it now!
