right ive been a u2 fan for 15 yr but for some reason early on i never really got zooropa i loved pop and acthung and joshua obviously and especiall no line but now i think i just love the more relaxed zooropa very enjoyable!
I adore U2 and every U2 album but I can't bring myself to like this song. I'm going through a Zooropa phase right now but I still can't do it. I think Stay and Lemon are two of their greatest but this... it just isn't right.
I practically grew up with these guys in the 90's and early 2000's, especially Achtung Baby and Pop. Also, it still amazes me how the Edge can get his Les Paul to sound like a Boeing 727.
Most people don't realize that this album (Zooropa) was recorded while still on tour to promote their previous album, "Aghtung Baby". It was meant to be an EP but was released as an official album in early 1993. The ZooTV - Zooropa tour, which began in early 1992 did not end until December of 1993. Also, many songs written and recorded during the Zooropa sessions ended up on the "Pop" album release in 1996.
Zooropa together with Achtung Baby and Pop highlighted the 90s. Lemon, Stay, Numb, Zooropa all on the Zooropa album are just great songs. Somedays Are Better... is very good and experimental with tongue in cheek lyrics. I wished they came up with more experimental songs in the 2000s.
Zooropa is such an underrated album. Like an extension of Achtung Baby but even more experimental. It has some duds but when the songs are good, they are brilliant. Like this one.

my fav u2 song ever. somedays you just gotta hear this song. i've long lost both cassette and cd versions of this album, so thanks for upping it. always makes me feel better!
I totally relate to the lyrics. "Some days are bouncers that won't let you in." "Some days you wake up in the army." Like I did. haha. Love U2. My Generation!
I love this song. How do they get extremely cool, scratchy sound that starts at 2:07? That might be my favorite U2 instrumental solo of all. Also love how the lyrics alternate between deadpan serious and deadpan funny (some days you can't stand the sight of a PUPPY?!?!)
This track is off of what is definitely U2's most underrated album. If Zooropa had a One or Where the Streets Have No Name type song then it would be regarded as perhaps there very best.
i hear what your saying but, what i've reads was that this was like a 2-3 month studio album. meant to fill out the ongoing popularity of the zootv tour.
I never said any of those songs were shit- they just weren't undisputable classics like One, Streets Have No Name, Beautiful Day or Walk On. Those last two songs were of course off the superior ATYCLB.
ATYCLB is not superior to Zooropa. ATYCLB is a radio friendly album that anyone can accept. Its a basic "rock" album back to basics just as BOY started it all. I always say that ATYCLB is the grown up version of BOY. Now, Zooropa is an album with style,sounds,attitude... its he freaking 90s man! 90s will forever have the best "sounding" music.! And, YES I also will always take POP over ATYCLB.
totally agree ColorsBright, recent offerings too radio friendly. At least this album, although not perfect was actually interesting and challenging with the band trying to develop/experiment with their sound.
i agree, the tones edge congers up on this record are truly impressive (especially on the chorus with that beautiful sequence of notes). also the bass line is non-stop!
No wonder why Adam calls Zooropa "A favourite of mine," he is brilliant throughout, especially this song

"looking for Jesus, and His mother" - such a tender, rueful little rumination on life
