I am planning do get one ASUS, but i would like to know if is possible to use a external DVD/Cd burner, and if so, do I have to download a special Aplication too?
@carlos69silva Sorry, i'm not sure about using an external DVD/Burner with it. I would guess it's possible, but have no idea what/if additional software is needed. I'd suggest looking up the XDA developers site, they have tons of great info and tips on doing all sorts of things.
hello there guy, I'm thinking of buying an ee pad keyboard this coming tuesday, so I just tough of saying thanks for u'r presentations, keep up the good work.
PS I previosly doing a rese5rch about it, have find u', r intro. the full complete ones!
If I was to plug the tablet in to charge overnight. then hook a USB cable from the dock to my Phone would the one powerpoint charge my tablet which would then charge my phone?
@willyWillba Yes, the keyboard base is just like a huge battery and will charge any device plugged into the USB. I assume at a rate of (1 watt) similar to any USB you would find on a netbook or laptop.
@EaglClawAirsoft I would guess anything is possible if you get something like Widows loaded on it. There are a ton of mods people have been doing. xdadevelopers has a great community of people with some cool ideas and software mods.
I have been researching and transformer and slider and I am liking transformer more but how laggy is the keyboard when typing versus a netbook or a laptop? Some reviews say that there is a delay when typing and deleting. Also how solid is the attachment between the dock and the tablet?
WOW, thanks for posting this, answered every question I had. I'm going to purchase the Transformer Prime but figured the keyboard dock would work the same there as it does on this one.
One question- what about plugging in a USB game controller? It's not that big of a deal but it'd be nice to know.
Great video, man. I saw this in a store today and think I might get one. The only thing I wanted to find out was what the web browsing experience is like? Does it go to 'mobile' version of websites or does it use a full on web browsing experience? Cheers!
@rfestejo it will go to mobile websites. But you can change the settings in your browser NOT be in Mobile mode. Transformer 2 coming out though.. So you might want to hold on to your money...
@rfestejo it depends on wich browser you use, i can't speak for the default browser but i know for a fact that Dolphin Browser HD from the market place allows you quickly choose beteween desktop mode or mobile browsing mode. Thats the beauty of android... you choose what you want your experiance to be like.
@vn01208503 I can only say I think it's one of the best tablets i've used, as I have not tried the numerous Android tablets that have come out in the past 3 or 4 months. Lots of new stuff out there, so really comes down to personal preference. Heck even Asus is bringing the slide model out soon, so many to choose from, they just made it more difficult to figure out!
@bossxii yeah indeed too competitive these days...and galaxy tab also has a keyboard dock, but i think i like asus more since it looks more like a laptop to me!
@vn01208503 I agree with bossxii, it is one of the best tablets on the market today but not too long. ASUS will release the new transformer prime on the 9th november 2011, the first quad core processor android tablet.... yeah!!!!!!
more information can be found on the (official???) forum: transformerprime.info
hey... i had a question... firstly, my tf101 is awesome but i have observed in ur review tht when u hit the lock button on ur dock again , ur screen wakes up while my screen gets locked by that button but it doesnt wake up by that button, i have to wake it up by the power button on the table........ why is tht??
I think you have amazingly detailed reviews. Thank you for taking the time to provide these reviews. I want a Transformer, but I think I am going to wait until the Transformer 2 is released (hopefully sometime mid-October)
This is a very simple question that I can't find an answer anywhere, so here it goes!: Does the tab key on the docking station indent the paragraph instead of skip to the next line like on the touchscreen keyboard? I'm a writer and plan on using the transformer's polaris office.
I find the trackpad way too sensitive on this thing. I find that my thumbs always touch it when I am typing, causing the cursor to appear and makes me type in the the wrong areas.
@tase25 I agree... but then again there is a hotkey to disable the trackpad when not needed. I found myself using the touch screen and keyboard vs trackpad and keyboard most of the time. Unless I am doing something like word/excel type work, then I would probably just hook up my BT mouse.
@bossxii what do you think of the battery life with vs without the dock? I know the dock has a battery in it, but how long are the battery lives with and without?
@AranTheLegend If you root the device, sure. You can also go into setting on a stock TF and uncheck the "trusted content" box and your free to side load just about anything. Whether they all work or not is up to you to find out. The risk involved should be researched so your not just loading harmful programs on your device. I would suggest finding forums that deal with topics of non-market apps, rooting and a modified/hacked OS.
Hey nice review but i was wondering if this is good for me. I just ordered the transformer for the sole reason of portability i wanted a tablet that was light and could do browsing anywhere. Do you think the keyboard adds enough weight to be compared to a netbook? cuz thats exactly what i dont want Thanks
@chicagojoe12 The dock does make it feel like a netbook for sure. If you want portability, I'd go with just a tablet for sure. With Google voice many quick notes and emails can be done via voice once you get used to using it. Not to mention swype and all the custom keyboards you get use to customize it to your liking.
Also he didnt mention is the keyboard plus the tablet is quite heavy. Heavier than a 15.6 laptop. I think its probably due to the hinge and the battery.
@Qdobaismydrug I've heard rumors that a Tegra 3 based Transformer may show up around the end of 2011 or early 2012. As with any tablet right now, expect updates at least once a year if not more often.
I just wanted to say ,I really like the video. You covered all the things that i would have wanted to see.I'm planning on getting one here real soon. Thanks for the great review and keep on keepin on man.I look forward to the next video..
@kentankt The files can be imported/exported to Office, although some of the formatting needs adjusting once into Office. I found the "word" docs needed a fair bit of formatting once imported into MS Office. This of course was my experience, with very little experience doing it, so could be partially user error.
GREAT VIDEO! Answered more of my questions :) still have a question though. Since it has 2 USB slots, is it possible to plug in two hard drives, and have them transfer files from one to another? If so, is it easy to do so?
Likewise it cannot wifi tether to an Asus Garmin A10 android 2.1 For internet sharing. Not even with a rooted a10 with a wifi tether app running. as such google maps and navigation is just a show piece software good for armchair travelers. eeepad is android 3..
Just bought the eeepad with keyboard dock. Confirm a 1Tb hdd works. However it can't recognise a memory card reader specifically one that support CF memory cards. Appreciate anyone who has success in having a memory card readersupporting CF cards reply with make and model. thanks in advance.
this looks amazing. i love my laptop, but its kinda bulky/ too big to bring to classes. too bad the keybaord dock is another 150. maybe i can just have the tablet til my birthday and get the keyboard then or something.
@neilbantoc37 1) Yes, NTFS works no problem. The drive you see in the video is NTFS and I use it all the time on various machines. I honestly haven't tried anything 4+gigs. It deals with 2gig+ files but I don't know that I even have a movie that large.
2) MKV has had varied success based on a few different media players. I would suggest xdadevelopers forums to find more info about MKV support.
If anyone is in the market for a good flashlight app with no ads for the Asus Transformer or other Android tablets, check out Light HD. It doesn't do too much, but it's just what I needed, sets brightness to max on a white screen, and then automatically returns the brightness to your original setting! Sweet!
I do travel photography yielding several hundreds Gb of photos and is away form my home desktop for weeks. Very impressed with yr detail description of the support for ext-Hdd. Would you know if it will support up to 1TB 2.5 HDDs. The keyboard has two usb ports. I would expect you can transfer photos from a CF memory card in a card reader straight to the HDD without having to move to the internal memory and then move to hdd? If yes, this has potential to replace my Dell netbook.
@csgoogle I have used a 250, 320 and 500gig 2.5" HDD with no issues on the TF. I have copied from one to the other, and pretty much moved files from the SD, Micro SD and HDD in all directions without issue. It supports having 2 HDD's and a Micro SD and SD plugged in at once. It is not a drag and drop operation, but a copy or cut and paste, but gets the job done with jus a few clicks.
I see no reason why a 1TB drive would not work. I'm guessing everything under 2gigs will be supported.
@bgreenjr7149 It has been done, but I think it requires rooting the tablet. That was prior to 3.1 anyhow. A good resource for how to do it is XDA developers web site. Lots of tips and tricks on that sort of thing.
If you set your cell to wifi hot spot mode, go into your wifi settings on the asus and you should see your phone broadcasting the wifi hotspot signal. Simply connect to this service as you would do with a wireless router and you can surf the net on the go. job done! :)
@morell21212 Keyboard is great, while still a netbook sized keyboard it works very well. The battery life is as good or better than the tablet. I would usually just use up the KB battery by the end of the day and then have the tablet ready to go as I messed with it in the evening. IMO the KB dock sets the TF apart from every other tablet out there, in a good way. Everyone wants to yell for freedom of choice... well that's exactly what the Transformer offers. Best of both worlds.
A great review!! keep it up! I've just got one question left about the transformer, how do you rate the sound, is the sound good enough to lisent to music at a public place without risking not be able to hear it or is it bad?
If availiable can you please compare the sound with an Ipad 2 or something.
@inkaana It's on par with the iPad, but as I mentioned in the review, I think the Xoom has better sound and louder volume than either the TF or iPad or iPad 2. I ended up buying a Bluetooth speaker from Jawbone called the "Jambox". Love it, great sound, wireless, no lag and a 8 to 10 hour battery life.
@dejon71 I'm from Kansas... so I'm sure some red neck show up lol. I didn't mean viola... I meant wallah!! just a slang term I heard and have used my whole life. :) Glad it provided you with some entertainment :)
@goglee3 Thanks for the tip! Ya I realize it was messing with the focus and ease of viewing. I"m a noob at this whole thing so learning as I go. Thanks again for the tip.
@bossxii Does anyone know, If you put the charger into the keyboard, does it charge both the tablet and the keyboard, or is it vise versa, or do you have to charge both peices seperatley, please answer...
@ThisGuysVids If you have the tablet on the dock, plug in the dock. The tablet will charge to full first, then the dock. If you have a dock at say 50% and you use the tablet down to 10%, the dock will charge the tablet until its dead. In other words the tablet always gets priority of being charged first.
@bossxii Hey, I just got my asus transformer w/ the keyboard dock and idk how the keyboard turns on or works? Is there a button i need to press to turn it on becuase when i dock my asus on the keyboard the mouse nor the buttons work... please someone help
@ThisGuysVids Not sure if you figured it out, but along the top row of keys, their is a button to turn on or off the mouse pad. If you keys don't work your dock maybe simply have a dead battery. Try it plugged in? If still not working, may have a defective one. Not sure beyond that.
I was thinking about getting a Dell Vostro 3450, but looking at this if I buy a 32GB Transformer+32GB microSD+32GB SD card+keyboard dock=94GB laptop/tablet hybrid!!!! :) and not to mention getting an external HD
I am starting to fall in love with that device, im an Apple fan, i have their computers, the iPhone and the ipad but its all last years technology, i bought a MacBook Air 11" for work early this year because there was not a device like this on the market.
@Mohammered The quick menu is part of the build in browser. With the 3.1 software update it looks a bit different but still one of the best browsing control setups I've used.
Hey, I am having a hard time getting my 720p videos to play on my transformer like that. I am converting MKV files to AVI, but still no luck. So whats ur secret? How do u get 720p video to play full screen like that?

@peterson99755 Have you tried Rockplayer lite? or any of the free video players on the market? Also how you encode them will make a difference. To high of a bit rate and you will bog it down. Also the stock player seems to have some issues with anything HD. Try something like Rockplayer lite or other free players on the market.
Man, thanks your review (1st of yr videos I've watched). Good Job, it's the best review of the transformer I've seen yet. Definitely helped in making my choice to get one.
@ShaneJMcEntee Yes, well somewhat. I couple of the free video players on the Market will fade it out, or at least dim it down so it's not so annoying. Mobo video player is one I think does it rather nicely.
@15Aalexis1995 16gigs on board the tablet, 32gigs in the micro, 32gig in the SD/dock (80 total) plus I have a couple of 16gig regular SD's I use for a camera I have. Not to mention a 320gig portable HDD if I really wanted to take a ton of content with me.
@LowellTyler1 I don't imagine so on stock honeycomb, at least. You can't run windows programs on a tablet. You'd have to do your P2P downloading on a desktop.
Great hardware and software review. I wanted a Prime at first, but this model seems more suited for my personal needs. Thanks!

I'm primarily finding a tablet to watch Anime from an external HDD so i like what you've shown here.. Therefore, my primary concerns are:
1. NTFS support - Were the HDD's you plugged in formatted in NTFS? Can you read 4+ gig files? Can you store 4+ gig on tablet memory?
2. MKV support - What codecs can it handle?
3. Does it have subtitle support?

@neilbantoc37 1) Yes, NTFS works no problem. The drive you see in the video is NTFS and I use it all the time on various machines. I honestly haven't tried anything 4+gigs. It deals with 2gig+ files but I don't know that I even have a movie that large.
2) MKV has had varied success based on a few different media players. I would suggest xdadevelopers forums to find more info about MKV support.
3)Yes
bossxii 7 months ago
@bossxii Thanks for the response! Here are a few other concerns i'd like to ask about:
1.) Is office support okay? Can polaris handle 2003 and 2007 office documents? How about open office?
2.) Has the keyboard dock battery issue been fixed?
3.) How's the quality of Bluetooth audio? Does it have the metallic noise i hear in android phones?
4.) Android's famous for lag, it's a sad truth, but it's the lesser evil compared to apple products. What parts does the transformer usually lag?
Thanks!

@neilbantoc37
Regarding MKV support, MOBO player supports MKV Perfectly.
when VLC is released for android .... Everything will be SORTED! including subtitles

If yes, this has potential to replace my Dell netbook.
csgoogle 7 months ago
@csgoogle I have used a 250, 320 and 500gig 2.5" HDD with no issues on the TF. I have copied from one to the other, and pretty much moved files from the SD, Micro SD and HDD in all directions without issue. It supports having 2 HDD's and a Micro SD and SD plugged in at once. It is not a drag and drop operation, but a copy or cut and paste, but gets the job done with jus a few clicks.
I see no reason why a 1TB drive would not work. I'm guessing everything under 2gigs will be supported.

Great review! Can you tether your cell signal? Does anyone know?
bgreenjr7149 7 months ago
@bgreenjr7149 It has been done, but I think it requires rooting the tablet. That was prior to 3.1 anyhow. A good resource for how to do it is XDA developers web site. Lots of tips and tricks on that sort of thing.

@bgreenjr7149
If you set your cell to wifi hot spot mode, go into your wifi settings on the asus and you should see your phone broadcasting the wifi hotspot signal. Simply connect to this service as you would do with a wireless router and you can surf the net on the go. job done! :)

hey whats the better idea??? getting a 16gb model and buying a 16 or 32 gb sd card (which is cheaper), or just buying the 32gb model.?

the bettery keyborad is good ?
the keyborad is good or have a lot of lags
morell21212 7 months ago

If availiable can you please compare the sound with an Ipad 2 or something.
inkaana 7 months ago
@inkaana It's on par with the iPad, but as I mentioned in the review, I think the Xoom has better sound and louder volume than either the TF or iPad or iPad 2. I ended up buying a Bluetooth speaker from Jawbone called the "Jambox". Love it, great sound, wireless, no lag and a 8 to 10 hour battery life.

Thanks for the very useful review. Certainly answered a lot of my questions regrading the Transformer.

Quick question, I've heard that the dock works as a USB battery charger without the tablet connected, is that true?

@bossxii Does anyone know, If you put the charger into the keyboard, does it charge both the tablet and the keyboard, or is it vise versa, or do you have to charge both peices seperatley, please answer...
ThisGuysVids 8 months ago
@ThisGuysVids If you have the tablet on the dock, plug in the dock. The tablet will charge to full first, then the dock. If you have a dock at say 50% and you use the tablet down to 10%, the dock will charge the tablet until its dead. In other words the tablet always gets priority of being charged first.

@bossxii Hey, I just got my asus transformer w/ the keyboard dock and idk how the keyboard turns on or works? Is there a button i need to press to turn it on becuase when i dock my asus on the keyboard the mouse nor the buttons work... please someone help
ThisGuysVids 8 months ago
@ThisGuysVids Not sure if you figured it out, but along the top row of keys, their is a button to turn on or off the mouse pad. If you keys don't work your dock maybe simply have a dead battery. Try it plugged in? If still not working, may have a defective one. Not sure beyond that.

I was thinking about getting a Dell Vostro 3450, but looking at this if I buy a 32GB Transformer+32GB microSD+32GB SD card+keyboard dock=94GB laptop/tablet hybrid!!!! :) and not to mention getting an external HD

when you were in the browser and you brought up that menu from the side, is that a native feature or is it from an app?
Mohammered 8 months ago
@Mohammered The quick menu is part of the build in browser. With the 3.1 software update it looks a bit different but still one of the best browsing control setups I've used.

peterson99755 8 months ago
@peterson99755 Have you tried Rockplayer lite? or any of the free video players on the market? Also how you encode them will make a difference. To high of a bit rate and you will bog it down. Also the stock player seems to have some issues with anything HD. Try something like Rockplayer lite or other free players on the market.
bossxii 8 months ago
Man, thanks your review (1st of yr videos I've watched). Good Job, it's the best review of the transformer I've seen yet. Definitely helped in making my choice to get one.
BeekSizl 8 months ago
Is there a way of watching video in fullscreen without the bottom dock remaining displayed?
ShaneJMcEntee 8 months ago
@ShaneJMcEntee Yes, well somewhat. I couple of the free video players on the Market will fade it out, or at least dim it down so it's not so annoying. Mobo video player is one I think does it rather nicely.

@LowellTyler1 I don't imagine so on stock honeycomb, at least. You can't run windows programs on a tablet. You'd have to do your P2P downloading on a desktop.

@SaintYishai I have actually downloaded files using torrents on my transformer, just look for torrent client apps on the marketplace.
