Yeah, the lip-synching is terrible, but I think the good news is that someone managed to slip in the original version for the show! Could explain why the singer was having such a hard time keeping time - or he could have been protesting that his singing wasn't being used. I don't think I'd be happy if I was him.
It was rare for a song to be sung live on TV from a certain point on, still is. Don't know if this started in the 60s or not. Remember, even the singing in videos in lip-synched.

I guess this song would NOT a hit without the orchestra in the back. So I ask: isn't there any accoustic recording played by The Marmalade WITHOUT the orchestra ?
Oh, come on! If you're going to lip-sync, at least do it to the re-recording that actually had this singer's voice! Using the original recording is just a goofy thing to do.
@cujo9 mmmm.... You do realise, these are MIMING to the original classic?
This isn't the original band - (only Graham Knight, bass player can claim to be miming to himself) - but I suppose you are right, it is a great performance - karaoke performance!!
Graham Knight the original has now left the band the others here are Sandy Newman,Alan Holmes and Glen Taylor.Sandy sang on Falling apart at the seams a hit in `76 thats all
Im dont consider these guys jokes. As long as they are keeping in the spirit and mindset of the original Marmalade band members. The marmalade lives on thru others influenced by their music.
Mintaraga81 and if he was gay would it matter, they did a good job..Please get over it, its the music ....Listen to the words, thats what we live in, know days. Sad
Worst lip synch ever. Me and my friends could do better at a karaoke bar. Don't these idiots in the crowd notice that the song sounds exactly like the Dean Ford record version of 1969?
This is the brilliant Dean Ford singing and a rather woeful attempt by Sandy Newman to mime. Even when he is not miming Sandy's vocals are no where near as good as Dean's they don't even come close.
dear sephoramaria -This is absolutely fake - trust me
This is the original recording of Reflections - MIMED to, by one original member (bass player) and 3 impostors.
The original Marmalade were 5 piece - Dean Ford/Junior Campbell/Graham Knight/Pat Fairlie & Alan Whitehead ( check wikipedia, and type in "the marmalade" ) - this lot are 4 piece. Steve/Sand Newman (as you call him) didn't join the band until 1976 by which time most of the originals had left - he is miming to Dean's vocal
this is marmalade dude but with new lead singer who joined the group when ford left, bass player is original member as well. Yes it is a voice over of the original song. Junior Campbell isn't there anymore either, he went on to make a name for himself writing music for Thomas the tank engine.

@rtupin1956 Hate to burst you bubble, but do a little research, that is the actual group, just remember they are 40-50 years older than when they first recorded the song and they have an album with their pictures on the cover as well.
@apike6 " rtupin1956" is correct - this is not the original band - not even close.
This is the tribute band - the only original member is the bass player with glasses - the singer is a guy called Sandy Newgate or something - not Dean Ford - no Junior Campbell/Pat Fairley or Alan Whitehead.
I think what irks "rtupin1956" and most of us, is that this lot are miming to the original recording - naughty - and fake!!! Spot the Ringers ......... BONG!!!!!!!!!!!
@spottheringersinc n 1975 Knight and Whitehead took over the name Marmalade again with a new line-up, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Sandy Newman. They signed a deal with Target Records, and in 1976, had what turned out to be their final Top 10 hit with the ominously entitled Tony Macaulay penned song, "Falling Apart at The Seams". Knight is still touring on the nostalgia circuit with Marmalade – the only original left
You need to look at youtube video's as they all look like they are mimed
@spottheringersinc And by your standards, should we say that the group Foreigner is a tribute band seeing as from it's original days when most of the members were fired and replaced, then eventually lead singer Lou Graham left. There are few to no originals left.
But then even the Lou Graham videos looks like he is miming his own voice, It You Tube, they all have poor sound to video timing
@rtupin1956 Congratulations on being a complete and utter fool. This IS, in fact AND fiction, Marmalade. Do you still doubt??? Why don't you visit the official Marmalade website? There's a link on their Wiki page. Nice job, idiot.
The band MARMALADE was on an Open Air in our town last year. They sounded and played awfully. Only the bassman is an original member of the group. The singer is SANDY NEWMAN. He fronts the group since the early Seventies. They had a hit with the song Falling Apart At The Seams.
But they've got nothing to do with the original band of the Sixties with the singer DEAN FORD alias THOMAS MACALEESE.
In this vid we see SANDY NEWMAN miming to the voice of DEAN FORD - how embarrassing!
It's EMBARRASSING and FAKE The ORIGINAL (THANK GOD ) IS ON HERE IN SEVERAL PLACES. The one THAT'S JUST THE (DECCA YEARS) ALBUM COVER IS THE VERY BEST.
It is Dean's voice - but it is some guy called Sandy Newman and the current line of Marmalade, MIMING to the original classic recording. Only the bass player, with the specs, is from the originals
No I think it is the same dude, this is 20 years after the record release, go look at some of the previous live songs from 1970 and put your thumb over the hair.
garybarr007 YOU NEED GLASSES. This is SO FAKE. I'll bet you liked MICHAEL BOLTONS version of WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN also. IT'S PERCY'S SONG FOREVER.
Is this the same group as the original Marmalade from 1969? The singer, even 23 years older, could not be the same guy as shown in the other video. He's also not singing live, only sync. to the original recording.
Thanks mate for the clarification. It confirms my suspicions. He really looks different to the original guy. The blond singer of the 'real' Marmalade group didn't look gay like this one.
@Mintaraga81 Congratulations on being a complete and utter fool. This IS, in fact AND fiction, Marmalade. Do you still doubt??? Why don't you visit the official Marmalade website? There's a link on their Wiki page. Nice job, idiot.
THE ORIGINAL MARMALADE ( who this lot are miming to ) WAS FIVE PIECE - (not four)!! DEAN FORD, JNR CAMPBELL, PAT FAIRLIE, ALAN WHITEHEAD AND GRAHAM KNIGHT - check wikipedia you prick - it's easy!!
The only original here, mimimg to himself, is GRAHAM KNIGHT .... the others?
SPOT THE RINGERS ..... BONG!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for shouting folks, but numbskulls like this drive me crazy!!!) give me strength!
@TinSandwichUK - Thank you, TinSandwichUK. I found the original video with Dean Ford in it not long after I wrote that remark. And yes ..., he is awesome. Love that guy's voice. I wonder where he is now ...
Can't help playing this again and it seems when I am so pissed off with plastic sound alike boolocks but it does'nt sound alike this is just pure crap...Dean come back to your old home and show them how to do it..
Fuck off Sandy newman.looking like cliff thorburn with anerexia.
This is lip-synched, of course....I have the origianl Marmelade 45 rpm of this and it matches exactly. I wonder if the 'vocalist' was actually paid for ripping this tune off from its actual singer, Dean Ford?
And then this...in 1974, Knight and Whitehead took over the name Marmalade again with a new line-up, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Sandy Newman. Hence..Sandy Newman is in THIS video and Dean Ford is in the Midnight Special, 1972 live video here on youtube!! Nuff said!!
Marmalade were a successful Scottish pop/rock group, from Glasgow in Scotland, originally known as Dean Ford and The Gaylords between 1961 and 1966. They changed the group name to "The Marmalade" in 1966. A later version of the band (from 1974), exists to this day, with only Graham Knight remaining from the original members.
Therefore...since THIS lead singer in THIS video came after 1971 and song was released in 1969..it is INDEED another singer!!
Im too having a hard time with the lead singer situation here. If you look at the "Live - Midnight Special" in which you see them performing here on youtube...they (the lead singer) do not look ANYTHING alike? SO..I saw this ...
Yep - and a lot of people on this comment board are trying to tell you the truth. THE ORIGINAL LEAD SINGER IN THE MARMALADE WAS DEAN FORD. THE SINGER IN THIS VIDEO IS SANDY NEWMAN!
Obviously, no-one ver taught you that very little is ever "as it "appears" ' so, you have just proven that you are a stupid person with such openly admitted arrogance .....thus, no further comment is necessary
Actually, rays120y, one further comment is very necessary - this cover recording video features Sandy Newman as front man/vocalist. He joined a later version of the band in '76.
He, and they, are miming to the original 1969 Marmalade classic recording which featured the great Dean Ford as lead vocalist and frontman - very sorry, but these are the facts.
No it's not. This is Sandy Newman who took over as lead singer with Marmalade in the mid-70's. The original singer was Dean Ford (Sandy and this band are miming over the original recording here).
How could any BAND wreck their reputation by pretending to be something THEY'RE NOT. And why hasn't DEAN FORD come on here and PUT THIS TO REST?? I LOVE THIS SONG THEMOJOMAN(.)COM
person below,it's obvious that you have'nt got any soul to leave a ignorent message like that,so tell me soul seeker how you gonna recognise it anyway when it comes your way.
Hello spottheringersinc,I am afraid I have to differ with you on your statement. But I can tell you for sure that these are the original band, believe me.Great song though isnt it?
so sorry, but you are totally mistaken. The Original Marmalade on Reflections was 5 piece - Alan Whitehead/Pat Fairley/Graham Knight/ Jnr Campbell, and Dean Ford on lead vocal - This is not D Ford - nor the others - only Graham Knight on bass - SPOTTHERINGERSINC
Yep - totally agree. Only Graham Knight remains from the original band. I'm sure it's the original recording that these guys are miming over. Dean Ford and Junior Campbell's voices are so recognisable on this recording.
Although Sandy Newman (the lead singer here) is very good at sounding very similar, it's definately not him singing on this recording.
hitty999 I agree with you,,he's even SMILING THRU THE WORDS,,WHERE HE SHOULD LOOK SAD.
I was "ON THE AIR" when this was a big hit and it really touched me because It was a VERY SAD TIME in my life. This song and WHITER SHADE OF PALE really touches me.
Why play the original and mime????? utter bullshit

Why didn't they mime to their own re-record - the one they issued with pics of the original band fronting the packaging?? BONG!!!!!!!!!

In this vid we see SANDY NEWMAN miming to the voice of DEAN FORD - how embarrassing!

gustavomurillo 2 years ago
It is Dean's voice - but it is some guy called Sandy Newman and the current line of Marmalade, MIMING to the original classic recording. Only the bass player, with the specs, is from the originals

Is this the same group as the original Marmalade from 1969? The singer, even 23 years older, could not be the same guy as shown in the other video. He's also not singing live, only sync. to the original recording.
Mintaraga81 2 years ago
N'ope - not even close!
the only original member here is the bass player, with the specs, on the right.
They are miming to the original classic recording
ignatiousbrogan 2 years ago
Thanks mate for the clarification. It confirms my suspicions. He really looks different to the original guy. The blond singer of the 'real' Marmalade group didn't look gay like this one.
Mintaraga81 2 years ago 7
Mintaraga81 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT. THESE GUYS SHOULD BE EMBARRASED. They should just DO THE SONG their way AND BE REAL
THEMOJOMANsince1959 2 years ago
@Mintaraga81 The real lead singer was Dean Ford, the only original member left is the bass player.

Are you stupid or just pretending??
THE ORIGINAL MARMALADE ( who this lot are miming to ) WAS FIVE PIECE - (not four)!! DEAN FORD, JNR CAMPBELL, PAT FAIRLIE, ALAN WHITEHEAD AND GRAHAM KNIGHT - check wikipedia you prick - it's easy!!
The only original here, mimimg to himself, is GRAHAM KNIGHT .... the others?

This is lip-synched, of course....I have the origianl Marmelade 45 rpm of this and it matches exactly. I wonder if the 'vocalist' was actually paid for ripping this tune off from its actual singer, Dean Ford?
Titan752 2 years ago 2
And then this...in 1974, Knight and Whitehead took over the name Marmalade again with a new line-up, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Sandy Newman. Hence..Sandy Newman is in THIS video and Dean Ford is in the Midnight Special, 1972 live video here on youtube!! Nuff said!!
mythebau 3 years ago
Marmalade were a successful Scottish pop/rock group, from Glasgow in Scotland, originally known as Dean Ford and The Gaylords between 1961 and 1966. They changed the group name to "The Marmalade" in 1966. A later version of the band (from 1974), exists to this day, with only Graham Knight remaining from the original members.
Therefore...since THIS lead singer in THIS video came after 1971 and song was released in 1969..it is INDEED another singer!!
mythebau 3 years ago
Im too having a hard time with the lead singer situation here. If you look at the "Live - Midnight Special" in which you see them performing here on youtube...they (the lead singer) do not look ANYTHING alike? SO..I saw this ...

Yep - and a lot of people on this comment board are trying to tell you the truth. THE ORIGINAL LEAD SINGER IN THE MARMALADE WAS DEAN FORD. THE SINGER IN THIS VIDEO IS SANDY NEWMAN!
johnto 3 years ago
They are old! -THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL BAND - THIS is a later cover band - and they are miming to the original recording - .
SPOT THE RINGERS - it's easy
spottheringersinc 3 years ago 3
NO, this is THE original lead singer
rays120y 3 years ago
how would you know? it appears you were born the year the original was recorded? someone is telling you "porky's"
ignatiousbrogan 3 years ago
Obviously, no-one ver taught you that very little is ever "as it "appears" ' so, you have just proven that you are a stupid person with such openly admitted arrogance .....thus, no further comment is necessary
rays120y 3 years ago
Actually, rays120y, one further comment is very necessary - this cover recording video features Sandy Newman as front man/vocalist. He joined a later version of the band in '76.
He, and they, are miming to the original 1969 Marmalade classic recording which featured the great Dean Ford as lead vocalist and frontman - very sorry, but these are the facts.
ignatiousbrogan 3 years ago 3
No it's not. This is Sandy Newman who took over as lead singer with Marmalade in the mid-70's. The original singer was Dean Ford (Sandy and this band are miming over the original recording here).

spottheringersinc 3 years ago
Hello spottheringersinc,I am afraid I have to differ with you on your statement. But I can tell you for sure that these are the original band, believe me.Great song though isnt it?
corsablanca 3 years ago
so sorry, but you are totally mistaken. The Original Marmalade on Reflections was 5 piece - Alan Whitehead/Pat Fairley/Graham Knight/ Jnr Campbell, and Dean Ford on lead vocal - This is not D Ford - nor the others - only Graham Knight on bass - SPOTTHERINGERSINC
spottheringersinc 3 years ago
Yep - totally agree. Only Graham Knight remains from the original band. I'm sure it's the original recording that these guys are miming over. Dean Ford and Junior Campbell's voices are so recognisable on this recording.
Although Sandy Newman (the lead singer here) is very good at sounding very similar, it's definately not him singing on this recording.
