honestly, the reason I learned to play the saw was that it was the only instrument I could learn, by ear no less, and with a minimum of expense, in less than 10 weeks, for a class I was taking. I learned by reading tutorials over the internet, inherited the saw from my husband's grandfather, and bought the cello bow and rosin that I still use at a music store, used by a college student like myself.
Sure is! There is a way to play them - that saw particularly is a very old heirloom saw, and is in the tenor range. I have a soprano saw, and I prefer this one.
I've always wanted to know how to play the musical saw. And as a Joanna Newsom lover, this video is too perfect!
