I finally bought the GR-33 on Ebay not an hour ago, got it and the 13 plug cord for $295. Years and years ago I bought a Roland ready Mexican Strat and have been saying "SOMEDAY" I'm going to get that thing.....wooopeeee! My use is for home recordings with my Guitar looper and Roland drum set, I just play the parts raw and in real time and layer them, soon to be with synth and natural sounds from the 33. Sometimes life is good.
@Magoooobly Again I'm not homophobic I get along fine with gay people but you...you're just an ass, gay or not and BTW how is me calling you gay make me homophobic ? huh? Your comment tells me you were looking at that guy and judging him if he is attractive to you or not that is GAY and not in a hateful sense it's how homosexuals find partners......look up biology and READ dumbass.
@Magoooobly BTW CHILD it's you're......YOUR imply's ownership......you might want to finish english in school before you make fun of people on youtube.
well I'm not really sure but from what I've heard the 33 has more features but the 20 has better tracking...mainly cause the 33 is partially analog but digital can track better in most cases
The gr20 is NOT better. Its a dumbed down version of the gr33. Notice the gr20 doesnt have a harmonist or arpeggiator. Its also much more limited in terms of editing.
which has better sound? which is easier to use? which one can you do mor with? which one has better tracking? is tracking still in play or like the vg it has no trackign and just a processor>?
Well, no. You're trying to be too quick, boy. I know, you've seen Roland GR-700 in related videos, huh? But I talked with author of Roland GR-700 video and he said that GR-700 was discontinued in 80's... So not always the highest number means newest stuff.
The newest synth is the GR-20. THe VG-99 is a modeler, not a synth, though it does have a guitar-to-midi converter to control a keyboard or sound module....
I too have had both gr-33&20 the 33 has more features, but I found that most of them you would never use. the 20 is very easy too use, espc. for live gigging. But like everything its a matter of personal perference. One thing they both have and thats is a Roland product which makes either great.
hey, im thinking bout buying the gr-33 but dont really know much about synth stuff on the guitar. So does anyone know what a reasonable price would be for one of these bad boys on like ebay and is it worth it?? Please help me out please.
@kallemalmsteen though everyone says the Gr33 is more versatile, I've found that the Gr20 tracks better, and that's the most important thing. I have a parker mojo midi fly and the tracking sucks w/gr 33. it's a little better with a 20, but I haven't yet been blown away with the tracking on any of Roland's guitar synths. maybe they need to invest in a guitar with sensors in the fretboard so legato techniques don't get dropped.
@earlgrey626 It really has to do with the fact that it needs to detect the pitch. There was a guitar a long time ago that had fretboard sensors, you didn't even tune it and it was all .09 gauge.
@donsolo00 Are you referring to Holdsworth's synthaxe? I know they go for about 20 grand used now for the complete package. Anything modern rival it that you know of?
I love my GR-33. I've had it for a couple of years. Also had the GR-1. I have a small home studio and I recommend it to any guitarist looking to expand their sound. The advantage of having a guitar synth is that you can also play other sound modules!

a question. : witch is the best and newest of the roland gr 33 or gr 20??
kallemalmsteen 4 years ago
I prefer the roland GR-33 because you can do many things that the GR-20 can't.
The GR-20 is more "easier", but with lower versatile.. with midi too..

The GR-33 is much better than the older GR-30.
