  • saw them at Norwich University about 1970, with Rick Wakeman-Glimpse of Heaven and a few other songs are quite special to me.

  • I first heard the strawbs on WNEW with Pete Fornatel. Well that was one special moment. He played autumn I had my headphones on I was on cloud 9. The strawbs will always be part of a magical event in my life. I wish I could go back

  • One of the best bands ever. Still great that they still tour. Have been to see them many times.

    A national treasure

  • loved them from when i first heard them in london in 67

  • I could play the last 45 seconds for hours.. (if you get my meaning) It's superb.

  • Good though this is, this probably my LEAST favourite track from Hero and Heroine, which gives some idea what a truly incredible album that is.

  • I believe the guy in the yellow suit is Dave Lambert, as for the guitar... never seen that model before but from the headstock and pickups I 'd have to guess that it's a Vox. Whatever it is it sounds real nice.

  • Please excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know what guitar the guy in the yellow suit is playing ? that looks like a Vox head to me !

  • Check-out Lay Down, brilliant tune.

Old TOTP b&w recording on tube, some silly girls dancing but if you wait till end, there's blonde in trousers at back of stage really knows how to move it.

  • One of my all time favourite bands. Have seen them many times. The last being a couple of weeks ago.

Why they are never heard on the radio is beyond me. Keep going Mr Cousins

  • This is the 'Hero & Heroine' line-up. John Hawken on piano here. Joined the Strawbs on keys. Great mellotron player.

This line-up has re-formed (minus Hawken, replaced by Adam Wakeman) and is currently touring in the UK!

  • Whose playing piano on this clip can't quite make out the face?

  • They are going to reshow this on a full complete TOTP edition tomorrow on EinsFestival if you want to catch it, the 499th edition hosted by Noel Edmonds, which had The Hollies, Status Quo, and Pans' People dancing to the Monster Mash.

  • great song

  • this is what I call a perfect song

  • I agree that this is a truly sublime piece of music from a stunning album (hero & Heroine).

The drummer, by the way, is Rod Coombes. These guys have reformed this line up and are currently touring.

  • I solute this great folk-prog band !

  • Is that Ken Pustelnik on drums? He also played with The Groundhogs.

  • That's Rod Coombes, formerly of Stealer's Wheel. He can be seen in the "Stuck in the middle with you" videoclip.

  • The third totp Strawbs clip have found this eve..it just gets better. glad they are still going! such a good band...

  • this band is preciously near-to-be-a-secret

  • Love The Strawbs - one of their best and shoulda been a much bigger hit.

  • Great Song....Best Band ever....We Met Dave years ago in New York...a very humble Genius..We still Love you Dave..play your music almost every day...have been foe 30 years now.God Bless...Lots of Love

  • Sensitive and touching song and album. Pure beauty.

  • caught them at sudbury a week or so ago, they still sound great and sang this song, see you in 30 years dave.

  • i love this song and album [hero & heroine],

but my favorite is "lay a light on me",

the lyrics to that are so potent,

thanks for recognizing this band on the tube,

one of the most underated bands in the industry

  • brings back good memories thanks for posting

  • Amazing. Thought this clip was lost for ever. Keep up the good work.
