I cant Stand the music nowadays it is horrible the 50's and early 60's was the greatest time for music it was about innocence not like music today about drugs and violence .
The singer on the right is Tom Ferrara, an original member of The Del Satins, who sang backup for Dion on most of his solo hits. Tom's brother, Fred, was also a Del Satin and was an original member of Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge. These oldies/doo wop groups are losing members, but it's good that most of them are carrying on to keep this great music alive.
This group has always impressed me,as time went by, the world had a touch of heaven, just being able to hear this group. Sadly, this music is greatly unappreciated by the younger generations, This is the music of innocent love
So 2 members have passed out of the five..? Or is it that the capris were always 3 and had 2 others featuring on their labels or records?. Idk know to much, but I know I love this slow type of doo woop :)
Nick Santo's phrasing on this song is really special. Very nonchalant sounding but totally on pitch. Fuckin' suave, REALLY. Suave, man. Excellent! Up there with Sinatra and Darin.
i need help: in 1961 while in the US ARMY, i purchased an album on Old Town by this group. Unfortunately, i was shipped out overnight and relied on someone to
send it to my home. That never happened. Yet today, i can only find one album by the group and it was released in 82. Even in stories presented on this group, does it tell of this Old Town album. Am I so old im confused?
Here's a little taste of what's in store for you tonight at doo wop night ! Cheers and hope there is a moon out tonight for all you revelers ! Cheers !
There's good music in every generation. Just a shame that it's sort of a warped bell-shaped curve and most of the good music was recorded from '55 to '85. 1995 to present has pretty lousy music for the most part; the worst since Neanderthal Man used to heat their primitive spoons.
@11xzxzxz - I don't think that I would even include the 80's. Too much of that long haired hippy commie freak music. This type of music started going away in the late 60's to the early 70's. Take it from me, I was there...It died with the DA haircut!
@kennbix Well I watched MTV and until '86 or '87 it was good .. maybe videos make songs better .. I would be tougher on the eighties but Videos made it pretty good for me for a while. I also like some music you might not like - The Replacements are my favorite band of all time (from the 80s; except when they are live and usually drunk. Far removed from the 50s.. hey did you like the early Impressions and Mary Wells and Smokey a lot too?
@11xzxzxz I could never get into MTV. Don't really don't know why not, but it just never interested me. Yes, I do like the Impressions, Mary Wells and Smokey Robinson. But at that point of time was becoming the end of the real rock & roll, doo wop era. The new music of today is nothing but yelling and screaming to a point you can't even understand the words.
@kennbix CONT. I know there was a negative change for me too from the late 60s to 70s (well after '71). I know a lot of songs. From your site it looks like Do Wop is predominate but what music did you like in the mid or late 60s .. ? ..a lot of great music , imo. Did you like the British Invasion?
@11xzxzxz There was the Gene Hughes & The Casinos in the late 60's who I enjoyed. Some of Ricky Nelsons stuff was still good. The British Invastion was the end of the dool wop era as I knew it. I do like the Beetles, Kinks, Hermans Hermits and many others until it all started going to the acid rock and so on. I enjoyed holding my girl close to me and dancing to the nice slow ballads like Tonight Tonight and all those other great ballads.
@kennbix OK I see you that you can enjoy some rock but the more electric stuff lost you. I definitely hate the new music of today.. most of it for 20 years. I enjoy slow dancing and really no other kind of dancing. It's a shame new bands do record that great stuff (remember the Jive Five?) but then they would mangle it up so badly, I guess.
@11xzxzxz I do remember the Jive Five, I always thought it was funny that they each had a number on their coats from 1 to 5....Jimmy Clanton, one of my favorite singers of the 50's & 60's. I saw him on a dvd rescently and he has a full head of hair, but it is almosr snow white. He still sounds pretty much the same...God I miss those days...my first car was a 1956 olds 88....the front bumper on that car probably weighed more than most cars today....
@kennbix LAST CONT Frankly, some great psychedelia for me. Some bands could do it .. The great Temptations tried it and sucked, imo. Even The Fleetwoods couldn't change and sounded not-so-good doing 60s songs after the greatness of Mr Blue, Tragedy, etc. Others like Smokey could still write a great song as "The Hunter gets Captured by the Game".
Years before my time ... yet after all these years they sound awesome, extraordinary. Is it not great to live in an age where this stuff is recorded ... forever.
It is with great saddness that I let everyone know that one of the founding members, Vinny Naccarato passed away on 12/26/2008. I am fortunate to have known him as my uncle and my Godfather - his personality, like his music, was relaxing, touching, and real. You will be missed Uncle Vinny.
@frankajn My condolences, but it's a shame that these great artists don't get the proper thank you's when they're with us...gotta keep the sound going...gotta respect their contributions to this genre, I probably would have like your uncle...sounds like he had some Brooklyn heart and soul in him
When this oldie was hot, I was 13 at a dance with my older sisters and a girl, age 20 asked me to dance this song with her..damm she felt good and smelled great..everytime I hear this song it reminds me of her...Roxanne was her name...probably dead by now..
I missed the doo wop era - not by much - but this would have been my favorite I am sure. My uncle/godfather Vinny Naccarato was one of the founding members and recorded the original song.

Nicky and Frankie are original members(left & center).Tommy joined the band in the 70's(used to sing w/Dion).They were great live. Robert Plant said the band influenced him when Zeppelin was inducted into the R&R HOF.I met Plant in NYC and he said he sings Indian Girl, the B-side, at home.Very cool!
The Capris ARE great...BUT Nick Santo lead singer has asbestosos...TOO TOO bad! He stopped singing. end of 2007..I've seen them several times the last several years they were ALWAYS great..these are the originals...
will somebody on this great earth, please bring the 50,s music back, there must be someone out there who can write music.
