Nope, can't land. Some planets, the terrestials, have city lights that show up on the night side though.

The next expansion is planetary interaction, where you can set up factories and harvest materials and process them on the planets themselves, but I don't believe the pod pilots themselves will get to set foot on a real planet any time soon due to canon background. However, the Dust 514 game will allow players to fight over areas on planets through mercenaries who do combat on the ground.

is each planet unique or do you come across cookie cutter versions as you travel around? i havent played eve in like a year not sure if i wanna resub or not

Each one is procedurally generated, though they do fit into classes such as gas giant, terrestrial, ice, etc.

Can't hurt to resub, even if for just one month, just to look around and see how things are.

What kind of hardware do you need to get that kind of performance?

@TubeTAG Not much... GeForce 9600 or up or a Radeon 4650 or up. EVE still doesn't use more than one CPU core, so GHz is preferred over more cores. 2 gigs of ram are advisable.
