999 is a beautiful bike. One I'd consider a keeper. If you're looking for comfort, then the GT is the way to go. Some that looks great and puts you in the right position for track/canyons, then the Sport 1000 or the 1000S is your bike.
Wow...what a bunch of lame comments on this thread. Who cares what the owner looks like....WTF!!! I have the same exact bike and Termi exhaust. It sounds awesome. Go whine somewhere else
Dude....that's a good one!! They blow through here in San Diego once awhile. the usual...they play 3 songs and the cops shut it down. Nothing changes for them in the last 20 years
Bought a 06 sport 1000 on Ebay. Hate the riding position alot, doesn't seem extreme till you ride it. I have a Pantah and fake 900ss (860gt) both have clip-ons and rearsets and are cozy in comparison. I'm thinking move the rear shock's lower mount further back in an attempt to lower the rear ride height I know this will increase the rake, but something is off about this bike. hate to put higher bars on it, that seems an injustice to this future classic. Any comment from Sport 1000 owners ?
Have you removed the distance piece from the clipon and the top yoke, gains about 1 inch which does not sound much but makes a difference. Other than that you will get used to it. This bike is not for tooling around in traffic ! If you have the öhlins shock it has ride height adjustment.
There isnt a piece under the top clamp to remove, also the real problem is the combination of the seat, peg, and handle bar locations. They all add to this models prone rider position. I understand what the bike is for thats why I ride Ducatis'. Bought some clip ons with a bit of rise and slightly back, its a start.
Doesn't seem that extreme until after a 3 hour ride. Your neck is screaming...your ass is tingling and your hands are numb. Still love riding it though
rode mine all the way to italy (900miles each way) from th uk via france. the french speed limit is 85mph but your pretty safe up to around ninety and theres next to no traffic. i only got a bit sore in the towns but the smiles more than made up for it. coming back i did the trip in a day and was pushing on a bit. i am 6ft 2 inch and weigh 15stone and the bike is standard apart from some bespoke exhausts made in the uk that add about 10bhp and let it breath a lot better , its better than sex
Yes, put a set of CycleCats with a 3" rise and eccentric bars, made all the difference and doesn't look odd. Also added the FatDuc o2 sensor device, works great! Tricks the ECU into enriching the fuel/air ratio. Totally happy, sorry for crying. NOTE. I now see why many of these Sport classics are crashed with low miles. Here is my theory; Low rumble + meaty torque - howl of inline 4 + slow steering head angle = Oops ! Fast, wide turns when you needed a slow, tight one. Its a learning curve.
thats gotta bite to it! awesome!

Is there any way we can get some video of that exhaust? And how many pounds is 15 Stone?

yeah, find some ST3 riser clip ons, they REALLY help the riding position.
