There is nothing irrational about objecting to a senatorial appointment by a guy who is accused of corruption specifically surrounding his senatorial appointment plans. Whether he is ultimately found guilty or not it is irrational to NOT suspect something corrupt here when the appointer is being brought up on charges for this very same thing.
