I am an real atheist, but in this movie religion is not mane point, it is just that religion has given humans more value than governments and emperor in the past. To like this movie (which I really want too beacuse off the GREAT music) i look at it simply as an movie about humans, not that we have too be konservativ but we have too be more when it comes to certain things.

PS: The fact that this movie didnt win oscar for best music is most likely the biggest oscar mistake.

@steinover religion is the movie's backdrop but the real story revolves around God and the goodness of man as His creature as maintained by one priest against the belief of another priest who maintained that in order to survive, the people must fight back and drive their enemies away.

I have sang in our church choir as a little one. Years have passed, I have not been to church for years. How I can still sing this song and not know the meaning of the lyrics. Also, if you read the Bible contextually, going around taking over and conquering other cultures for the sake of 'increasing God's kingdom' is complete hypocrisy. Not only does it state that the Kingdom of Heaven will not come by man's hand but rather God's, but also points out in Revelation that Christendom LOSES. It's like at some point (as in Dostoyevsky's Grand Inquisitor) the Christan worldview gave in to the tempations Jesus resisted in the desert, especially the mountaintop one.

And there is a double irony in using the Lord's Prayer: the full passage is "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" and it is clear that those who believe they are acting for God are actually going completely against Biblical teaching; those who are reciting the Pater Noster are acting against what their own holy text claims as God's will.

That being said, I am no holy roller, but I've noticed that most of the evil 'Christians' have done is in some way forbidden in their scripture.

Catholicism is an invention of the Roman emperor Constantine to subjugate rather than massively kill the Christians, as their numbers kept increasing.

He got together the priests of Diana, Zeus, Jupiter, etc, and instead of having people worship the emperor as God, and the other deities, he made Diana into Virgin Mary, the Pope into a replacement for Jesus (no joke, it's on his crown) and then do stuff in the name of "God", "Christianity", "Faith" etc, in contradiction to the Bible/Jesus.
