Lest we forget the talent on display. Looks like Dave Bronze on bass and Albert Lee, the guitarist's guitarist on lead! Who let the dancers on the stage!
Mr Rodgers is still in shape in mind, body and of course VOICE. -i feel a little sorry for Mr. Plant - imagine : You're great singer but bad luck takes away power in Your voice...? I'm glad that He' has sucsessful solo carrier so He could sing in other style than in Led Zep years.
This are all legends....no arguing about that. I am just glad that they care enough about music to "pass the torch" to a 15 yr old girl to allow her to sing along with them at this amazing event! GO CALLAWAY....we won't forget that name!
I mean, picture this: You are a musician that has to take the stage after Led Zeppelin. AFTER. Not before, which would calm your nerves, but the biggest most influential rock band in history plays before you and gives a show for the history books. Especially Kashmir (OMFG IT ROCKED). They were probably like, "Wtf mate? We have to go after? Jesus." lol
I give them credit though. It is tough to get up and sing, especially right after one of the biggest bands in history just left the stage lol. Robert Plant cannot be touched when it comes to raw energy and power he brings to the mic. Just, no. Ya know what? Lets not compare. They all were great for whatever they did. Just, Robert Plant did it better, and did other people's material better when Led Zeppelin did covers lol.
C'mon you've got to take into account the vocal range that Robert started out with and the incredible things he can still do with it - nobody to touch him!
@GOODY61 really? Have you heard Plant from the 60's-71ish. Decline started in 72. Too many shows in a row going balls out.....singing with horrable colds and flu......and drugs contributing to his downfall, but durring those peak years, there has never been a better rock vocalist. All IMO of course.
@ILuv2BU I never have seen a live clip of him where he sounded as good as the studio version. He just couldn't do it live. Rodgers on the other hand at 60 sounds just as good as the studio versions 30 years ago , in fact I believe he sounds better.
Byproduct of a clean lifestyle he has for the last 20 + years.
I love Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant. I have been in love with Zep since I was 8 yrs old... but I have to say I was a little shocked when I heard Robert live. What sounded effortless on recordings sounded really strained live. I think Roberts voice has gotten better with age but I don't feel it was as pure and effortless as Paul Rodgers. If I'm comparing the two.. this is what I think.
It was only 1973 onwards that Plant's voice became strained. Check his early live performances on BBC Sessions, How The West Was Won and the Royal Albert Hall footage from the DVD. Pretty effortless singing and possibly better than studio recordings.
@thepopot I loved zep too but PLant has now lost his upper range which is why he won't tour with Zep anymore...he can't deliver the songs in the same key in which they were recorded.
Wow...I just saw Callaway's first solo concert in MS at the Coliseum! No wonder she was so good. She has sung with and learned from true legends. thanks for sharing this. One day 16 yr old Callaway will be honored for her songwriting. I love her music!!! Forget the other young stars...this one is real!!!!
I was stood outside the Indigo2 with my sister and it was freezing! Worth catching the celebs (well some of them) as they sneaked in and out for a fag.
Solomon Burke simply the best voice of soul music.

Plant should stick to fading harmonies with Alison Krauss.

Based on the clips I have seen over the years, I do not think Robert Plant sounds good live, either now or in his prime.

well said! he is and always was vastly overrated. rodgers, and coverdale are a thousand times better.

Don't get me wrong I love Zep and Plant but there is one big difference between Plant and Paul Rogers.
Plant WAS one of the best, Paul Rogers still IS the best!
thepopot 3 years ago 12
No Plant, Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Rogers and Ian Gillan will always be the best rock frontmen and singers forever.
No matter if their voice goes or they pass away these men are all legends in their own style and right.
mfl1992 3 years ago 3
no they wont. paul owns all of them.

Wouldn't you say that - especially in terms of songwriting - Plant is still one of the best.
