  • it sounds awesome, where can i download the song?

  • Oh yes, this is such a wonderful job. Grooveboxes are such an interesting idea, I hope they're coming back sometime, with dedicated music hardware in a portable solution... For those who want an audio workstation there are markets full of modern options but these are something different.

  • I really wanted one of these because its capability to sound "cheesy", in a cool kind of way. But one thing I really don't like for certain is the pots and faders prone to fail, and failing faders messing your sequences. I love this track, really do, and this is the one which made me go for one. Congratulations from Mexico.

  • @hectorjcm800 I own a MC505 Groovebox since 1999, I never had problems with the pots or faders, I think they're pretty decent actually, but I think it all depends on the user / owner. One of my MC505's channel-buttons doenst´t 'click' anymore, that's all. Good luck sequencing on the machine!

  • I always wanted to pick up one of these guys. Really dig the Envelope filter and the mixing capabilities that the MC303 and MC505 were lacking. My only drawback is that the sounds are pretty dated. Did you add any of the expansion boards in?

  • greatest 1st mix to ya

here is my 300th or so....

  • instant boner

  • Killer song. Grooveboxes are very cool. I had a Yamaha AN200 but if I were to get another one I would get an MC-505

  • Can you program your own recorded drums sounds into the 505 and make a beat? Like if I record the sounds from my drumkit as a wav file, can I import them into the 505 and make beats that way?

  • @alexanderj1986 No, you cannot. The MC505 cannot sample nor can you import samples. But there is a work round. Just buy yourself a cheap Akai sampler like the S2000 and connect to the 505 via midi, then you can use the 505's sequencer to trigger the drum sounds you have recorded yourself. That is what I do with other sounds and it works great.

  • LOVE THE GROOVEBOX!! Had mine for like 15 years and I want a new one.

  • Just saw this vid for the first time. Really cool tune, thanks for sharing.

  • @norphies Hi there, thanks for the reply. Strangely enough I recently uploaded a test video with a gold plated lead recorded at max volume from my mixer. The next hurdle seems to be the camera I use to record the sound & video. I don't edit stuff or use any software. I'm trying to master live performance.

I recently found a test video with a Zoom Q3HD used the same way I use my Kodak Zi8's Mic line input. I've placed the video on the top of my channel favourites list.

    Thanks for the tips dude.

  • I have one of these but the one with keys & extra abilities. Awesome tune dude.

I'm more impressed with the sound quality. Something I'm struggling to record. The bass is deep ass & the twinkles can break glass.

What do you use to record the sound?

  • @funkb0x Sounds like you could just throw ina little EQ before the signal hits your recording device. you could go througha mixing console into the soundcard on your computer or into the inputs of a multitrack recorder or what have you . . .

  • sickly

  • When you brought in the melody after just the beat near the beginning I nearly fell out that was so hot.

  • A-MAAAA-ZING!!

i'm more and more into such stuff (i've been producing only on PC software) so.. if i could have a question: is the box diffucult to program?

skills i see:D, but... was it difficult to start when u first got that little devil?:D

  • @err0ret0ric

Thanks! It takes a while, but like any other machine: at some point you'll remember where specific functions are 'located' Also you'll need to learn how to 'step thru' these menus the best way. The user-manual can be helpful with this. Some users may think its a terrible machine, but its all about the way you program stuff on it. Unsatisfied users may not know all the tricks to get it done the right way, I can tell you: there's lots of them.

  • Hey I just bought off of Ebay this past Thursday night the mc 303 and comes with the manual and VHS tape. Question : what is a good small sized mixer to connect to it with a usb port so I can record things into Sonar. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Yeah!!!!! that's why they have made grooveboxes.

You have the mc505 perfect under control, great job.

  • nice beats

  • nice :)

  • VG.

  • TEFELICITO !!!!!!!

  • Its superhands!

  • Are you still using the MC-505? You should try an MC-909. Although the MC-505 is excellent, the MC-909 is the best Roland has ever made. Too bad they no longer make these boxes. They are a lot more fun than the small junk being dumped on the market by so many vendors now.

  • wow thats like what

new age mixed in with a little bit of techno and a tiny bit of soft rock with hey how about a bit of jazz

dude seriously you couldnt get any more original than that.

    sweet work.

    positivally awesome.

  • hey wat all do u need for a groove box man i got the box and the ac thing im wondering what kind of stero do u have

  • does anyone else notice the little thing that goes across the bottom of the cam be tween 0:30 and 0:35 ?

  • @HXLONEWOLF what the hell...did I just see a ghost in a youtube video???the beat isn't anything special, but that ghost is forcing me to re-watch this..

  • @smokingclowndog i know watched about 20 times just to make sure it wasnt a glitch.. even tho its impossible or me just seeing something.. but yeah... i was kinda like eehhh WTF o.0 xD

  • This is actually unbelievable! Do you have a higher quality recording of it?

  • does yamaha not do groove boxes

  • Nice one

    Peace

  • @774434 thanks...meanwhile I've bought one for around 200 euros... guess I made a good deal :)

  • im having a little trouble figuring out if its possible to record tweaks youve made on the 505 because every time i recod something original, and i play back the user patern it plays only the patch i modified minus any tweaking. can someone please help me out

  • @774434 what do you mean by tweak?

  • @TheStoryWeLive nevernmind figured it out

  • @774434

    have the same problem mate.

do you know how to record in realtime instead of the two step sequencer modes?

  • @BeatzFollower mc-505 tutorial watch?v=C3H2ILJ5hBc

  • could someone please tell me what is a realistic price for a used one?

  • @sigmundklaus picked mine up for 150 on ebay, came with a dead screen but whatever i got a new screen for 50 so in total like 200 there goin for like around 150 on ebay now tho in america at least

  • great job!

  • not bad!

  • Just checked the eBay listings.

    Almost makes me regret my electribe. ;_;

  • F$@##$% A MAN !!!! :))))) 5*****

  • Love this track man!!!

  • I LOVE THAT SOUND!!

  • realy nice ! I need the MC 505 for my homerecording stuff.

cool mix, nice groove & sound

  • fucking amazing mate, keep up the good work

  • Nice song, very mellow and easy to listen to. I like it :)

  • I too have a groovebox, and the sounds that come from her enchanted me more and more .... God created the world and the Roland MC 505

  • really smooth. I'd be interested in hearing more. Keep up the good work man.

  • Wow! I wonder if I can get sounds like these out of my Korg EMX?!

This is really enchanting music, dude : )

  • really classy littletune there,, reallly classy,, bought a 505 offt he bay about 2 years ago,,i never use it,, i use reason/ableton,, but, this shit your doin,, is,, fkin mighty stuff,, i must get into my 505,, crackin tune,,,, really cracking,,, must get my head round dome decent tutorials for this machine,,,

  • Real nice tune Norphe :)

  • I love this video and this music

  • i love.......... 3:00

  • Hi man! I'm a drummer from Brazil and i liked your patterns, very much. I looking for some sounds like this, for join a drum solo, that i'm doing here for alive shows on parties. How can i have that? You share it? Sorry for my enlgish... Thankx! MK

  • Very well programmed man. Nice :)

  • Thanks. your comments keep motivating me. I;m working on a mixing project of some of my mc505 written patterns that mostly have this groove you simply wont find in computer programmed stuff.

  • This is like my 10th listen :D

  • Охуеть !!! Трек просто супер !!!

  • nice track. 5*

  • hi folks. i have a question. how can i fix mc 505 buttons? my party select and tone select (worst case) doesnt work anymore. PN me for help please.

  • Just bought one, hopefully its delivered by tomorrow

  • good luck with your mc-505

  • Tell me how it is!! You should've had it for a month by now...

    I ordered a Korg EMX-1 instead.

  • KOrg EMX can not record velocity notes. Korg does not have extensive Apeggiator styles and tweaksettings like MC-505

groovebox has. But it indeed has a nice way to build synthsounds from scratch and nice tripple efx processor.

  • lol. I got the Rolan MC-808 though.

  • Comment removed

  • for some reason I pictured Jackie Chan running around Tokyo fighting ninjas and ending up in a high speed car chase. sweet beat dude.

  • Great work m8! I had a 505 a few years ago and sold it... now I'm wanting it back!!

    great track. cheers

  • Nice track, I can see that a lot of work was put into it. I've been lurking for a 505 for a few years now, still have not snatched one up though.

  • mc 505 or mc 808 wich one do you like?

  • How is your LCD? I understand that it is common for them to eventually crap out. Great track, by the way!!! I'm trying to decide between this and a Yamaha RM1x.

  • rmx1 has a better sequencer + disk drive , 16 midi channels. very reliable instrument.

the 505 has a better synth/drum sound, bloody hard to use, loads of faffing about with putting things into temporary memory and back to user memory + it freaks out and loses stuff.

  • nice one dude...i need to get one...

  • Right. You've convinced me to dig mine out again. The machine has been neglected for too long. Good work!

  • Great job! Really like the track. You certainly read the manual! Nice one!!!

  • Nice work man :-) Thanks for posting.

  • I did this man, nice.

  • I meant "dig" lol

  • no doubt about that !

  • i have a roland mc 505 for 2 years now i know what i'm saying

  • I'm sure you do

  • Oh yes! The 808 was designed to be an "affordable" version of the 909. The 808 actually has more patches than the 909 plus motorized fades (the 909 doesn't). The 808 is a great machine. Given a choice I would take the 808 over the 505 anyway. Having BOTH the 808 and 505 would be the best solution. LOL!

  • I sold my 808.

No offence I hated that machine

  • I think the 707, 808 and 909 drumsounds are the best and mostly common ussed drumsounds in electronic dance tracks the world. The mc -505 has them all (or at least lots of them) I guess.

  • lol he's just pushing the parts of the pattern that's all, everybody can do this no offence norphe :)

  • Yes everyone can push buttons and do some mute and unmute-ing. But unlike playing a preset, I write things my own. The patterns you hear in my video's are written/programmed by me on the MC-505.

  • People like scheleberrie do not realize the amount of creativity and work that goes into writing music on a sequencer or "Groovebox.".All they see in a video like this is the playback in were it does look like we are merely "pushing a couple of buttons". The work part of it can take hours or days of work depending on how complex the track is.

I think this is a good effort, It makes me miss my 505. : ) Keep it up!

  • Exactly, the MC505 is a very good machine to write something out from scratch.

  • No offence or anything, but thats a pretty dick thing to say.

  • GREAT track,i really enjiy it!its a paradise for my ear!Its the first time i ve seen\heard you on you tube and im quite immpressed!!!!

Does this track have a name?

  • "a paradise for my ears" :) hahaha.

It's just 'song 01-10' for me. But It could also be named as: 'Twentythousand hits' or so. Because that's about the amount of hits it gets in a year on Youtube.

  • I'm thinking of getting either a 505 or 307. Anyone know the major differences between them?

  • The lower LCD screen will die after a while (because the screen gets too hot) in the MC-505 which makes it almost impossible to navigate between menus. I would get a 307

  • Never seen a 307... The LCD can be fixed by heating and pressing the connection cable against the LCD connectors.

  • I owned a 505 for 6 years and used it constantly. The LCD didn't degrade at all. The 505 is a much more powerful machine than the 307. For making tracks I would take the 505 over the 307 any day. I have the 909 now and love it. The 808 is great too. I wish I kept my 505. It would have worked well with my 909.

  • I own it for about 8 years now.

  • I had the MC505 for a while but did not understand it that much so I sold it...don't have the time to learn on it...a pity

  • pretty awesome man!

  • thanks man

  • Does this thing work as a sampler?

  • No the MC505 is not a sampler.

  • The MC-909 has an on-board sampler. So does the MC-808 but you need to connect to a computer to edit the samples.

  • i feel in the 80!

  • Awesome!! Just awesome!!

  • Nice song, FAT basssss :)

All these sounds are in the MC 505? Is the 505really a lot better than the 303?

    THANKS!

  • beeelllaaaaa

  • awesome!!!! i like it)))))))))

  • good one :)

  • pelaste lindo sonido

    felicitaciones!

  • good stuff! I wish the mc808 would of had the knobs and sliders like the 505, this looks like a fun thing to play with.

  • I liked the middle part when you showed the :-) symbol in the video. Tho I didn't get why you put the smile there:D

  • :) :D
