  • weak like fredrickjohansens penis.

  • best use of trash bags Ive ever seen because when you're done you can fold it up and put it right in the can

  • good job dude!! try tightening up the fabric abit

  • is it possible for that to be smaller

  • setting up for first broken bone....:)

  • that was more like a giant kite :P

  • What you did was dangerous, irresponsable, stupid, and.... exactly what made man fly :o) Take care though !

  • @airbeamer

    Spot on.

  • nice, atleast you tried =P

  • @fermerwuvu

    yes!!! that's great!

    :)

  • plans please ...

  • I like your spirit! You'll be flying before long.

  • My mate and I made something almost identical in the mid seventies from an article in Scientific American we found in the school library. I think we only survived because there weren't any really big hills we could wheel it to strapped to the crossbar of my pushbike. Brilliant fun, but a fast track to a Darwin award.

  • Respect for havin a go - but seriously you are gonna hurt yourself badly. Your structure looks questionable and the person near the camera, holding a rope that appears to go up to the wing hasn't a clue. (Needs to be in front, or abreast the wingtip imo). Glider plans you can buy ( I have a set to build a Rogallo from 1972), but given ground crew issues, I'd say go to a reliable accredited school. If you plummet, even from 20 /30feet it WILL hurt - spinal injuries are typical. Take care

  • song ?

  • good work, but CG adjustment is necessary.

tie a rope to the point where you think CG is and pull it. If it doesn't fly well, adjust.

  • what song is this on the video its amazing. sounds like dave mathews

  • @nixonpunk222 Dave Matthews - Two Step

  • The Hang Glide is already invented. Why risking your bones or your life with this? Buy a commercial and pilot tested hang glider and save your life, or use it to test a new invention!....

  • You need to make the tarp tighter

  • is that kenny?

  • ive noticed hang glider alwauys tend to be quite small. what would the ffects be if you made them larger

  • @210482fmj They fly slower and are slower to respond to control inputs.

  • I drew up the first plans for a bamboo and plastic Rogallo wing called the BatGlider back in 1966. BTW, you are way too far back. The truss should be about where your body is and you should be in front of it,

    Jim Foreman

  • Haha

  • 34? in america that's called wasting 50 bucks on garbage bags...

  • It's a human kite.

  • Are you trying to kill yourself? That you didn't fly may have saved your life! Your video is fun to watch but I think you are one of those people we hear about in the news before we think, "What kind of person would do something so stupid?" Do yourself a favor, buy a plan and some good materials!

  • voou 60 cm for 3 secondes..

    ja está bom!!!!!!!

  • Great big bin bags for the Wing!!! Genius, you'll be able to use them to put your body in after wards!!!!

  • hey ah what did you use for the sail? trash bags??

  • nice kite

  • sooo....where's the gliding??

  • ninguem falou a eles que ja inventaram a asa delta .......

  • ahahah regarde le avec son sac de poubelle serieux

  • deserves 0 vievs

  • not stable...

    very dangerous...

you would probably kill yourself if it actually lifted off

    ...

    SHIT!!! I GOTTA TRY THIS!!!

  • great job guys!

  • Great video !

  • 0:48 kenny!!!!

  • What was that!? It didnt even fly!

  • theoretically you could use anythign that is strong enough. I think the way foreard for human powered flight is to use lighter stronger materials. New technologies are coming all the time. think how strong pvc on meat carton is is and only pierces when something sharp breaks it like a knife. THe lighter materials used the larger we can make the wing area. cardboard and ultra streched pvc should be experimented with. the thing with flyin you dont have to go that high for it to bee sucesful

  • your going to kill yourself

  • ....whoa...gusty and turbulent...note the low cloudbase and very ragged clouds - -

low low low and slow slow with that unstable wing.

  • I cant wait for my vacation to Australia, I am going to hanglide there!!!

  • Hi, just wanted to comment about the video itself, I think this has to be one of my favorites on youtube. It looks like whoever put this together in the editing room and with the camera is still learning, that's ok, everyone is still learning.

I just really want to encourage you to continue! I've watched it quite a few times... other than execution, it is near flawless to my eyes. Shot selection, subject framing, shot timing and length, music selected... everything works. Keep making stuff!!!

  • cool

  • If i'm not mistaken that's garbage bag like material.....I think it would work better if u used painters plastic but I'm not the one to say cuz that's better than anything I made

  • now THIS is what men do with their weekend

  • wow i like this can you please tell me all what you used to do it?

  • Try a 10 mil plastic sheeting, a lot thicker and stronger. it comes in different sizes and also some long thin strips of wood to keep the back from flapping around to much. Good luck .

  • nice try

  • good job guys, keep trying!!!!! to all the haters you probably cant do any DIY because youre too lazy to stand from the chair, get a life lowlifes!!!

  • nice trashbag plane lol

  • That's basically just huge kite, but I've been trying to figure out how to defy gravity with kites since I knew how to fly a kite.

  • wth? why didn't you build a real one???

  • Brilliant-you're true dreamer!!

  • greattttttt!!!i want also one!!

  • wright brothers all over again

  • Trash bags

  • just a big kite not a hangglider

  • its very simple,by a kite of same design, copy it multiply all dimensions by the same # (example if the kite is 2 ft long multiply by 7 ==14ft) use bamboo and constructionPolyethylene Sheeting Roll 6 MIL Clear (the plastic shoud go UNDERNEATH! the center rod ,not on top!),nice big zip ties, and some 1/8 inch? braided aircraft wire, hose clamps? mix together well and your off!!

  • the eason it didnt work good is because you did'nt have the middle of the wing mounted to the frame

  • love the dave

  • 39€? im building a one seat glider for about 50-60€ xD i hope it will Fly

  • please watch youtube.com/watch?v=vqTyaZnpUNc and tell me if it is broken or okay

  • I reckon a fin would help to keep it from yawing too much. Looks cool.

  • @frederikjohannsen :) I love this video, great job! that looks really fun, lol is there a way that you could cram that into a school backpack and fly to school? (Once all the kinks are worked out :D ) GOOD VIDEO I ENJOYED IT :)

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing. The Wright Bros do live again!

  • the center keel tube is supposed to be "OVER" the sail not under it-

you guys did not use the center keel to "STAY" the sail in the center -

    DORKS ,

with the center keel tube as a stay for the sail , the sail will then be virtually 2 sails a left and a right wing

and not just a large mass of plastic billowing above your empty skulls-

  • It flies! Excellent.

  • idk, but its more like a parachute O_O

  • Thats pretty bad ass lol. Obviously wouldnt take it over a cliff...but a little hill with that would be fun!

  • That's fucking dangerous. If you actually got far enough in the air, the thing could easily break and you would plumit to your death. XXXXXX

  • dude thats how it all ends, you guys know nothing about flight.

read some books like dennis pegan and take same lessons.buy a used glider and play on the training hill.

dont take that thing any higher then that.

  • Nice colors

  • Wow,

  • what did you make this out of ? black garbage bags ?

  • what song is used in this video??

  • DAVE MATTHEWS BAND

  • Similar to the Bamboo Butterfly I flew in 1971. Fun as hell, but nearly killed myself on that thing. Hope you find a hang gliding school, we need motivated pilots like yourself.

  • @Ayerstairs Taras flew a black bamboo butterfly at Livermore in 1971. Are you him?

  • @djbarryiii Nope, sorry. I flew in Gainesville, Florida. We towed it behind an old MG. Fun as hell. I was the only one small enough to "safely" fly it. Glad I survived those days. :-] Today HG is a safe and truly awesome sport. Great people too.

  • Attach the sail all the way down the keel......problems solved

  • damn brother, atleast you had the balls to make it and test it, that is how everything great starts you know

  • dude thats a human kite...hahaha lmfao....look at how dey pull the cord at the front... hahaha

  • That design seems a bit unstable. You could improve it with a shorter chord and some stabilizers. Cool video anyway : )

  • let up on the front

  • HOLY S--- BRO. A 30yr old glider would be safer than that! Trash that thing and find a HG school.

  • don't crush their dreams of creating their own glider.

  • So you got lift, nice.

Please do not try to really fly this thing any higher than 5 ft from ground.

  • You going to die kimosabi

  • Stramo metodo per suicidarsi!

    Spendevi meno comprando una corda

  • Do you know Balloon boy? :)

  • Nice try,but I can see that your design has so many faults that if you fly high enough you WILL BE KILLED!

  • Ah, the classic Rogallo wing...your only mistake was attempting flights on a windy day!

  • Hahaha, I tried building one too, when I was 10 or so. You did alot better than I did! You almost reinvented a "Standard" by accident, heh.

  • what do you make it out of

  • It's called a "HELMET". Put one on!!!!

  • It is easy to talk, this was a good first attempt, the main bar flexed, something good maybe. you are on to something, find the stress points by loading it with bottles of water. I think with less wind and towing it with a car, you could get real data. try head on in a 15 mile hour wind with car 5 to 10 mile per hour. Don't give up, I am inspired.

  • Sorry, It doesn't works! I Try to buy a wills wing or a Moyes glider :))

  • Your CG is too far bach, might have too much wind as well.....

YOu could download the plans to build a standard...... Rogallo etc

Nice try tho... You have balls to even attempt it..

    Rob

  • Music?

  • Dave Mathews Band - Two Step

    (my favorite song of theirs)

  • Comment removed

  • really cute lol

  • for 34 euro you could've bought a nice lunch. your hanglider sucks!

  • it was for fun

  • Oh guys, that was awesome! I like your enthusiasm! When I was in elementary school I tried to make wings, but of course, they didn't work :D but I was always obsessed with idea about flying. I was always interested in birds, planes, kites, hanggliders, paragliders... Few years ago, I became a pilot of a paraglider. Good luck in further work!

  • why does everything on youtube have to be a goddamned music video?

  • what materials did you use. that was brilliant

  • you had to hold it down with ropes...

  • If you guys could get it higher in the air somehow, it would fly pretty well. Great job. Im building one too and was thinking it might noy work, but now that I saw yours I think I actually might fly!

  • make a tower :)

  • I think you need tighter fabric and it needs to be joined in the middle completely, youre loosing air and therefore lift through the big slit in the middle. also I think it needs to be weighted at the nose a bit, but Im no expert so dont listen to me.

  • thats exactly what i was thinking! :)

  • pretty mad dog ; )

  • try it off a hill

  • hey what are you using for wings ?

i'm trying to think of what to use

  • some cross joiice in the back would make it hold the wind just add another few plastic pieces acrodd the back and your gold

  • I really enjoyed the Dave Matthews song you chose for this video... kinda made me reminisce :)

  • thats still pretty badass.

  • It's hard not to admire your spirit, enterprise and daring; But please, next time you do this, get yourself some blueprints, and follow them. Assuming, and hoping, that you are still alive.

  • just wood end plastic?

  • hey guys how did you make this thing

end what did you use??? it looks fun to make somthing like this

    fabian

  • right on your guys!

    pie or near ing spirit

    lookslike big dreams!

check out my hg vids here....

i used to design and build gliders in 70,s

  • it would be grat to have something small that woud travel fast, but not tooo far from the ground, just smooth and fast, like a flyin bike or sumtin, lol

  • why do it to yourself. hanggliders have progressed lightyears from this do yourself a faver find a club and stay alive

  • u might have well just made a parachute and had ur friends hold u with rope.

  • I'd love to do this. It may sound crazy, but just to hover less than two metres off the ground with one of those would be fantastic.

  • Yeah i would make something like this and fly just some 20 m some 2m high.

  • Am doing. I have purchased some polythene film - long-term project XD I wouldn't want to go any higher than a few metres, for fear of both falling and the fact that such a thing is out of my control... o.o

  • I would like to be there doing that, very, very, very good and fun.....

  • oh i've been wanting to do this so bad...only make one that actually works..no offense

  • nice kite ;)

  • Crazy dudes!!!!!

  • what you have use to do it?

  • For the wing cover we used plastic. Don´t know the correct technical word -wo got it from a farmer who used to cover straw...I guess you could use anything as long it is light and able to hold the air..For the frame we used planks of wood approx. 2x2 inches. As posted in this thread be sure to fasten the wing cover to the keel = more lift= :):

  • What material did you use to cover to wings?

  • If you strip off some unnessesary weight (if any) and take off your shoes (2 lbs of weight gone) you could get a couple more feet of altitude!

  • Cool, imagine if you gain any altitude.......you would shit in your pants, or broke your legs when it fails and come staright down. you are brave!!

  • the frame looks good

but the actual fabric or sail material could have been made out of something that tents are made of i dont know the name it wouldve worked alot better

  • It is unstable because the sail is not attached to the center strut, so essentially you have no keep.

If you can find an old set of "Batso" or "Bamboo Butterfly" plans you can see how that was done.

Back then it wasn't uncommon to by a tarp at Sears for the sail and use tape to hold it to the spars.

  • What is the name of the song ?

  • I think it's 'Two Step' by The Dave Matthews Band

  • a bit unstable but cool none the less

  • Awesome job.....I made something similar 30 years ago ....wood and palstic sheet. Borrowed a swing seat to sit on..what was i thinking. keep it low ...great fun and way better than playing xbox

  • Good thing you didn't get any higher in your contraption. It would have been pure suicide!

  • what material did you use? its really good and the what is the material used for the canopy?

  • looks like a wood frame and maybe tyvek for the canopy

  • Really funny mate!

  • IT's grand that you have so much interest in the sport that you would go to these lengths . I certainly didn't but now have 30mountain solos. What I learned in my training was , well, several things that I wouldn't do that you guys are doing right now . For instance , launching in winds over 10 miles an hour - that's for more experienced glider pilots . You'd do better to buy a worn out glider than to try anything on that "wing" . Why not just go to the nearest HG school and see what they think

  • dude it is ok what they are doing... it is their bones and lifes... if they wanna make someone completely homemade and have the time of their lifes... I SAY TO HELL WITH IT! AWSOME VIDEO BUD

  • In the hang gliding sport there is a joke about PVC and other plastic hang gliders, that were typically only made back in the 70's.

Never fly higher than your willing to fall.

  • can you use wood to make a hang glider?

  • On such a hang glider, never fly higher than you are willing to tell your mother about.

  • Hello, Looked like challenging tests...trailing edge flapping a lot, strong winds, and causing much induced drag and turbulence; I assume that the pilot was well-tethered to stay very close to ground. Also noted gap above keel where much air escaped instead of helping lift glider. Back of sail needed more billow for stability and smoother airflow. But, as long as no one is hurt or worse, and no damage done, experiment and experience look good.
  • Well done my friend. Your glider structure reminds me of the first gliders made back in the 40's and 60's. There's a post on youtube interviewing the pioneers of the sport showing their designs. Keep it up, but remember...there are no good pilots, only old ones. It is only through mistakes that we learn anything. Be careful and always keep the risk at the same level.

  • do you know where I can get some plans to build one of those

  • Sorry, can´t help you about plans. We just went ahead and made ours using normal kits as inspiration.

  • Don't be so idiotic and make our sport look Stupid. Get a licence, learn properly and don't be another statistic

  • I would certainly get basic training on a proper hang glider if you intend going more than a few feet above the ground. But this video is just messing around - nothing wrong with that - might bag a job as a hang glider designer.

  • they are just having fun chill the fuck out.

  • Dear Shark 14415:

Thanks for your comment. If you look carefully you will notice the 3 ropes helping us guide the "kite". You would also notice that our height above ground was about 1 m. So safety wise I don´t think we will end up in any statistic!

About your sport ( I guess Hang gliding) I can guarantee that " making your sport look stupid", was not what we set out to do. We were only trying to be really good at our own sport - (not being to serious, having fun and building stuff).

  • @frederikjohannsen Cool video, AWESOME :)

  • the gliger has got two main problems: first, the foil must be bound much tighter to the wood in order to get more or less a smooth level. if not the air resistance will be gigantic and it you wont be able to change any directions propperly. second, you should use more wood, if not it will brake soon..

  • Thanks for our input. We learned that fact the hard way...It broke the vary same day as this video was filmed...fun day though. We got what we wanted: a nice day outside building a kite that made us fly some sec.

If we would build one again We would proberly use aluminimum for strength and use the advise posted about optimising the aerofoil by securing the plastic to the keel. ( would still not fly higher then a few feet.) We are all about fun, not about broken bones...

  • What version (concert location/date) of two step is this?

  • It's nice to have friends...

  • wood or PVC...or both

i started making gliders when i was 10...out of wood and old tent rain flys

then used tin roofing on one...that one flew well...(with no controll)

keep it up bros...and definatly make sure your tarp or whatever material you used is connected to the centre pole...it will help a ton....also try adding battons to get the basic airfoil

  • make sure your material is connected to your center pole. i made a bunch of these when i was 13-16 the one that worked best and almost killed me had 6meter poles. i still have an old book about making them, somewhere. i think you have inspired me to to do it again.

  • Very cool, keep it up!

  • dimensions for the glider??

  • Each wing messured, the keel, and the crossbar messured 3.5 meters, the wing angle ended up at approx 100 degrees. These dimentions was not decided on the basis on aerodynamic calculations, it was just the longest wood available at the local market.

  • get on somthing with wheels like a mountain board and roll down the hill and you should get some lift

  • Just be careful! Got pins and plates in my feet having fun like that, would do it again though!

  • Admirable work, but you should start with a more modern and safer design. I've heard this one referred to as a "lawn dart"

  • no lift off..make another one

  • We did have lift off. More the 8 sec. To be honest - we were aiming for a bit longer....

  • your design has a very simple flaw. Hang gliders work on weight shift like a bike to move. also HGs are light so any wieght shift must be compensated for. The main C of G is the pilot. Therefore the pilot must be able to shift their weight in relation to the frame and their weight must also automatically shift due to the frame. You must be 'tehered' to the glider not rigidly attaged to it. Outerwise it will not work...

  • ^teathered ...opps
