  • Sounds terrible. My 350 vortex straight pipe with 18 inch long 4 and a half inch diameter angled tips make mine sounds so much better. No cats no mufflers.

  • Ya man I've got a 5.7 same set up as you and the popping gets annoying at times, what did it do sound quality wise? Also do you remember about how much it was? It sounds good to me!

  • Hey man what kind of x pipe did you use? Could you tell a difference between when you did and didn't have the x pipe?

  • @setdog7 Not sure what kind, what ever one the exhaust shop ordered up. I didn't have this installed for performance what so ever. I had it installed to improve the sound, and which it did in my opinion.

  • what are the rpm's if you can recall

  • @NROBLEWC No clue lol

  • short glass packs have more growl, less popping...long ones are deep and poppy

  • Kyle, did your old truck have stock size piping? So after the cats its stock pipes to where the muffler was its just pipe, and then they split out the back?

  • @nickl011- This truck has no mufflers. After the cats its the stock 2 1/4 pipe, then into a 2 1/4 X-pipe, then from the x-pipe it went to a 2.5" pipe out to 3.5" tips at 45's. I miss this truck :(

  • I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of my popping, I've got the 5.7 votec. I've got dual flowmaster 40's on it, and I just had to strip my cats because they were fully clogged and the engine wouldn't start.

What do you think could stop the pop?

  • @mxjerrett new cats or magnaflows

  • @rock9137 I was thinking of getting some hi-flow magnaflow cats.

  • @mxjerrett resonators help a lil:D try puttin 2 dynomax bullets on it after the mufflers.. should get rid of that pop you have.

  • sounds really nice...not too loud when takin a cruise, but if you hammer on it....i bet you will turn some heads...which is how i would want it

  • :D sounds like my 82 c10

  • Damn Kid you gotta nice truck.!! I have a K1500 with Y-Pipe no cats, I also live in MN, new stillwater.

  • @ltdesp2002 Thanks man. It WAS a nice truck, I stripped it down and traded it in 2 years ago.

  • Sounds fucking awesome dude! I love the sound of a true dual straight pipe set up on a V8. Especially on mid rpm's you get that gutteral low growl but the straight pipe pop.

  • are they stock cats??

  • @JesseDELTA88 Yes Stock cats.

  • so u have cats on??

  • Yes the cats are still on.

  • nice

  • did u lose any torque with this system? and how much backpressure did u have left?

  • I really did not notice a power loss or difference, and the backpressure was fine. I still had both cats on....

  • damn that thing looks badass i love the wheels.

  • wat size pipe do u hav?

  • It goes from the cats as the stock 2 1/4, then into the x-pipe which is 2 1/4, then after the x-pipe its 2 1/2" pipe out to the tips at 45's.

  • wow why is my pipe 2 3/4's? (95 c1500)

  • is that true duals stright pipes with an X-pipe??? is there cats??? if so take em off haha. nice very nice truck;)

  • Yes, true duals with a cross over pipe. Yes it has 2 cats.

  • Well just an x-pipe with no mufflers and yes theres cats on

  • no cats sounds like shit

you get bad gas milage and makes your truck have alot less power

  • @truckman4x - i dont think they sound like shit. thats what i ahve on mine and i cant tell you how many compliments ive gotten on how it sounds. its a lil too loud for me tho n im looking into getn sum LT headers and a single super 44 and then run duals out. loud and throaty.

  • that sounds freakin amazing, i'm jelious

  • u runnin straights?

  • where did u find that x pipe? i cant find cat-back pipes long enough to make my true duals into straight piped true duals.. i wana keep my cats and just delet my mufflers..

  • The exhaust shop ordered me one, then they installed it.

I think any exhasut shop can make one, but they cost more because of the amount of labor involved. The one he ordered of rme cost $75. So not too bad. They also can be found on summit racing and sites like that...

  • that sounds really good. no popping just a deep rumble

  • Always wanted to know what mine sounded like when it drove by i think this kinda gives me an idea what it might sound like great looking and sounding truck

  • Thanks. In my opnion it is the best exhaust set up out of the 5 others i previously had lol.

  • True duals means to separate pipes to wherever it ends, never says anything about a crossover pipe so I still consider an x or H-pipe a true dual setup. But I do agree that I think straight pipes means no cats or mufflers.

  • I changed the title

  • I forgot to mention, the truck sounds awesome like that.

  • Yeah and strait pipes are definatly without cats and mufflers.

  • nope i live in north dakota

  • were did u get your windows titned?? nice truck man

  • If you live in Minnesota, i had Shaded Image Tint all windows (exept windsheild)

  • so i think ive decided ill go with the true dual straights with the x pipe. should sound good. im in canada so hope its not too pricey for the whole setup lol.. mines completely stock right now

  • does your mpg suffer any with just the x-pipe and cats? what do you average?

  • I get between 12-14. nothing over 14, mostly city driving. I didnt notice anything from my other of my set ups...

  • in the town i live in theres a truck just like that but baby blue and same setup of exhuast but hes got the cats off and it sounds so much better so u should take your cats off and it would sound amazing trust me and if u do video tape it and let me see. but yeah man shap ass truck keep up the good work!

  • sounds good

  • thanks

  • U still have ur cat?

  • yep, both cats are still on

  • ok thats where you get ur deep tone...um did you feel a performance difference when you added the x-pipe?

  • yeah i felt a little gain, i could tell a difference between glasspacks i had on before, then to a x-pipe. the packs "clogged" my exhaust compared to the x-pipe haha. I also have a k&N FIPK intake

  • Ok well my pickup aint got a cat but ive got my 18" glasspack! Check out my vid if youd like....um does the x-pipe come after or before the mufflers...my guess is before but i havent been around them ..um im lookin at put two 18s and droppin out behind the rear right and i have jus recently been contemplating put an x-pipe in..what do you think..performance wise..

  • Yeah my packs were bad though, you probly have different ones because mine didnt flow worth shit. An x-pipe you would put before the mufflers. x-pipe just equalizes the preasure from both sides of the engine and reduce popping. But yeah an x-pipe dumped with mufflers should give you something for H.P. I would rather have tips though IMO

  • whoops i accidently deleted your comment.

basically i put on the x-pipe because every other chevy around here has true dual straights, so i wanted a different sound.

  • i have the same pipes on my 95 silverado...i love them:)

  • im guessing its a 96? ka96Z as in 96 Z71... i got a 95 Z and lookin for a new tone, and i just found 1 i love! sounds awsome man, just right! was just wonderin the year, i know its a 95,96,97,or 98 but just askin

  • yep, its a 96 with a 5.7 Vortec. this is my 5th exhaust change, and the best!! I am going to do this set up to my 03 silvy too

  • 5th on the same truck?? damn, i just hope when i get-r-done it sounds like this, the 96 was the first year 4 the vortec which my 95 has the standerd 350. hopein the different intake wont make a big diff. but plannin on gettin the k&n fipk intake and holly TB so hopefully itll sound decent

  • yeah before this set up i had mufflers, different glasspacks and true straights for a week before putting the x-pipe in. ya yours should sound good im sure. I think the TB sounds almost better than the vortec.

Have you seen my other vids?

  • hey just watched em' Your vids helped out alot. Not shure which i like better! Take care of them beauties!

  • btw, pic of the truck on my profile

  • looks nice!! i love that 2 tone. one of my favorite two colors together on the OBS

  • sweet dude!

  • sounds real good

  • True dual straights with X-pipe???How?

True dual means you have two complete sets of pipes, one for each side of the engine.

    -No X-pipe ether

Straight Exhaust also mean no catalytic converters or mufflers of any sort, just pipping from front to back.

-I've read here, that you say the catalytic is still on.

All I see is dual exit exhaust.

This is a real pet-peeve of mine when people talk about exhaust that they don't have.

  • Ok man thanks for that write up! To clarify to you i have 2 cats with their own pipe leading into a x-pipe, after the x-pipe their are two seperate pipes that end up at 45's with tips. I put "True Dual Straights" on the title because

#1. I have true duals, 2 cats, 2 seperate pipes

#2. straights because i have no muffler but the cats so i guess it could be called "cat back". your right on that.

im not ranting, just sayin what i have and sorry i titled it wrong!

  • It is what it is. Just 2 seperate cats going into the x-pipe then out at 45's with tips.

Thats what i should have titled it

  • eh still sounds like a beast tho.

  • yeah i agree w/ watnsdal. they r just two pieces of pipe run from the motor to the back of the truck and r at no point connected

  • pretty ass truck man, sounds good

  • ok I worship you

  • lol. why?

  • ya i guess i could remove the cat to make it louder. but im satisfied at the moment with it

  • mine are 500 times louder. ha badass truck tho
