@sconoglio I guess you didn't notice the reply I made to @nomdesouris, 4 months ago. I really didn't mean to "dis" them, as you put it; I just came across them, without knowing their background, and commented that their performance is not really very "awsome", musically, as some people said. However, having been informed, by @nomdesouris, of their background, I'm happy to agree (as I said below) that it is a good effort. I guess my error is not being American and therefore red-blooded patriotic
@splashydash no your error isn't about not being "American and therefore red-blooded patriotic" your error is you are an elitist twit. You dis a bunch of 10 years old rather you want to admit it or not. Taking a once in a lifetime moment and disregarding the performance is a "dis" and you did it to promote another chorus. You could have simply clicked on one of the hundreds of links, went to another PS22 video and asked others to check out your favorite chorus but choose this venue.
@splashydash Check out the PS22 chorus's other videos on YouTube (I concur that this was underwhelming and twee, and gave little sense of what makes them special). Then reflect upon the fact that this is a group of underprivileged kids from an inner city public school, with no special funding, and that the choir master accepts ANYONE who is willing to work, rather than cherry-picking gifted & talented kids from supporte3d middle class backgrounds.
@nomdesouris Yes, I do agree that they are pretty good for a bunch of kids with no special training. I was just surprised to hear them at the Oscars and was counteracting the breathless "awesomes" and so on. I didn't mean to disparage them; I was really recommending the Drakensberg Boys' Choir, especially their African tribal songs, for terrific singing by 9 - 15 year-olds. But they are a choir school with first-class choir-masters, so of course it's no contest.
@splashydash - PS22 is more then just a choir, I would even go as far as to say that quite a few people madly in love with PS22 are not at all into choir music - I know one who would not entertain even visiting your Drakensberg Boys for sheer lack of interest - me. There is no need to overextend on the underpriviledged public school in NYC either... You are simply missing the point about PS22..and that makes you in my humble opinion a very sad person. I feel really sorry for you.
@splashydash Before posting your dis of a bunch of ten year old students understand they are from a public school in an inner city district. Not the handpicked voices of a city, state or country. What these kids do is remarkable in that they practice twice a week at school and it's the 5th grade choir so they only spend a year in the choir then a new group is chosen. Sure you could have directed people to your favorite choir without dissing another.
This is a reason toi keep the arts in schools. Not every child will be a doctor, lawyer, teacher or even a mathematician. Mr. B.. you have a whole second grade class at PS 82Q in Jamaica, Queens that admires what you did with your kids. For our March 2011 we sang Susan Boyle's rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream." I would post it on YouTube but due to chancellor's regulations I rather not risk the ramifications. We wold love to have you visit us . You were all truly wonderful ! Simply awesome!
That's a variation of the uniforms they normally wear. Alto's where blue T shirts and the Soprano's wear the green T shirts this year. there is normally another image that goes between the PS22 and Chorus but it was left out of this design. Look up PS22 on youtube and you can see their
While the singing is great and I believe that there should be programs like this in schools being a "choir kid" myself, watching this is doing nothing for me. The singing isn't bad and I have always loved the song. It's just that the kids seem to be unfocused at times, not paying attention to the director, not looking very interested in what they are doing or making weird gestures. It puts a major damper on what could have been an amazing performance.
These children were absolutely WONDERFUL!! Thank you kids, for an AMAZING performance, and THANK YOU HOLLYWOOD for giving these children a little piece of heaven. God bless you all!
You kids should be very proud of yourselves! This was an amazing performance! Mr. B, thank you for sharing your obvious passion for what you do with the rest of the world!
Mr. B is an amazing, he is an inspiring teacher who loves what he does and it shows. My son was in this chorus a few years ago and every year the opportunity these children are getting are incredible.
To bensb96 -- I agree with JARARTVIDEO - research before you write. These kids are not picked because of their ethnicity, they are in this chorus because they love to sing and can. These are children, no need to make it a racist issue. Stop being small minded.
Thank you Mr B for the wonderful work you do......you're love for the arts is contagious!! You will be "The Teacher" these students will never forget! So sad that many schools are losing their arts programs.....these classes and programs are needed to develope well rounded individuals! Every school needs a Mr B...I tip my hat to you Sir....
To all of you out there who have any negative comments to make about this performance, you need to do some research on the history of The PS22 Chorus and watch what one of the most inspiring and uplifting teachers has done with an ordinary elementary school music class. I've been following Mr.B's videos and spreading the word far and wide. Check out there performances of Bjork and The Cure, or Bon Jovi Livin on a prayer. WOW! Thank you PS22 and Mr. B for bringing me joy and making me smile!
Bravo! Bravo! What a beautiful composite of American public school kids! They are our future! They are every bit as talented as those in expensive private schools, maybe more so. Support your local public schools!
@ursulawinter YES really. I'm sure as a parent or something you think this is really cute. To me, I feel like this is the most ridiculous, over the top thing I've seen on live television.
@bluewhale18 I love puppies and butterflies. I just think this is over the top. The award ceremony is a joke in itself, so this was icing on the cake.
What a thrill to watch these great children perform. It was the best performance of the evenings. I had tears in my eyes as I watched them. Their teacher and parents should be very proud of them. These students show how important it is to have music in public schools.
Stunningly beautiful, moving moment, P22!You should be so proud!!!! When I watch your videos and see the connection you have with your students, Mr. B., it is so obvious that the most important thing in teaching simply cannot be measured. Communicating your passion and building relationships with your students is a gift you have given that no test score will ever convey. Congratulations on this moment, but most of all, bravo for the difference you make every day with your students!!
Keep music in schools! Lesson taught so sweetly, so pure in the voices and the direction of this song. I'm not a teacher and my kids are out of school but wow what a magical moment for those kids. BRAVO to the actors for the standing ovation. Life changing for some of those kids. Bravo to PS22 for supporting the Arts.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING... and all Bloomberg wants to do is cut , cut and cut programs in NYC. This is just an example of what the kids all over NYC and the rest of the United States are capable of doing. Mayor Bloomberg iF you continue to decimate NYC schools with your budget cuts, there will be no one to teach these bright and talented kids. Rememberthat the best way to fight a recession is to raise the education level of our future... CUTS only hurt them.
thats the most beautiful song ever written
i can only imagine Judy listening to this kids singing her signature song
