thanks for the advice but I'm preparing for paused bench for competitions so I prefer going down really slow, then it won't be too much of an ajustement to pause on the chest until the signal.
Right on, I kind of figured that. The thing is, even if it's a paused bench you might want to play with descending quickly - I've found that as long as your groove is on, you'll be able to move more weight doing that than by going slowly.
The only people who need to descend so slowly are shirted benchers bc the shirt can throw them out of their groove. If you're going raw it might make more sense to drop more quickly, pause, and be able to explode harder.
thank you, well yes it's not the smartest thing to do. But there are several pins (which I hit on the way up!! GRRRRRRRr) and I can always put the bar back on them. At home I did get stuck with about 400lbs... lol NOT FUNNY!
out of interest, how many weeks do you train heavy bench in a program? I am currently doing a program of 2 weeks endurance/ build up, 2 weeks heavy and 2 speed taper. Is this far off what you train?
I go heavy every week. with or without band. I go for a 3-5 reps max if I do regular bench, and 1-3 if I do it with elastic band. On the other bench workout of the week, I lift from lowest pins with a flat back or floor press and concentrate on acceleration from the bottom.
you can go heavy pretty often but the key is to keep the workout short and not overdo the assistance and triceps work at the same time. I do bench, some military press and shoulder work on heavy day. And just a couple of triceps mouvements on explosive day.
Merci! :) Je voulais faire 220 en fait mais comme je me suis entraîné chez moi ces derniers temps, le max que j'ai pu faire c'est 185 + elastic band. Alors je manque de force au départ. C'est pour la fin de l'année!!
man i've tried benching on the ground and you pull it off very well with your technique and raw power. congrats!!

Nice work man. If you're confident in your form you should descend faster and store up some stretch reflex.
