She's equally as wonderful to watch as much as listen to...none of the grand and pompous facial gestures that are the trademark of lesser pianists (i.e., Lang Lang, the musical clown among pianists)...
@Malcolm64 then you should also include Wolfie Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Federic Chopin, because i'm more than certain they each would had annoyed you if they had played for your birthday.... LOL
enough about Lang's expressions...he's a gawddamn genius! you can't play like him, can you?
@DICACIO1...artistic standards would have to be drummed down several notches for Lang-Lang to ever be considered a "genius"...he's talented I'll grant you that, but there are MANY, many other pianist who easily outclass him, both technically and musically.
How precious is this video to go along with themany wonderful recordings this great artist has left us. Rest in peace, great Lady. You brought so much pleasure to the world.
it's a pity albeniz isn't better known, people would be amazed of how virtuous is his music and how harmonically rich it was even though all his works had that spanish taste... thank god alicia made albeniz's reputation grow more... thank you alicia and albeniz, we spaniards owe you so much...
@TikiFury When i first heard Albeniz i thought he was a follower of Debussy who had brought that composer´s amazing musical `colour´ some steps ahead. I was amazed to find that Albeniz was the influence on Debussy rather than the other way round. The sound-worlds he creates go beyond being Spanish - the national style is just a starting point for his greatest music.
Peerless. De Larrocha may have had small hands, but she shows you that good technique and good playing has more to do with musicality and knowing how to move rather than having a big stretch that can take in a 10th or more. I had a wonderful teacher from Argentina who taught me almost everything I know about technique, and she would say that De Larrocha was the model for what she was teaching her students.
This is a textbook lesson on how to allow music to flow through the physical body. She had such tiny hands, but one would never know it from the way she plays. Gorgeous tone and understanding of style!

I wonder if small hands are actually an advantage for pieces like this (and Triana) where the hands are playing on top of one another.
