First of all, it's a BBC Documentary, so it doesn't deserves credit.

Second, since it's BBC the first word to come at mind should be "Infoxication".

you dont get it stephen. Poverty is what makes populations explode. Japan isnt really growing because only a very very small percentage is poor. And crime is very very low. America will double because of poverty. But India and Africa which water and food is extremely scarce will triple and quadruple. Until there is low poverty the population will continue to grow fast.

Popluation growth is no longer being checked by natural selection in the case of humans. I think that governments should begin to plan for cutting population growth in each country and to increase food production, to prevent dangerous shortages of food and water in the future.

@STEPHENWRAYSFORD33 I say decrease the number of religious missionaries in poor, overpopulated countries and replace them with groups that do not condone the use of contraceptives (not buy the group leaders sports cars).

@senhuan In the third world it would be a good idea to allow more families access to contraception and advice on family planning. But even in countries like the USA which are wealthy and have easy access to contraception, their population is still projected to rise. The rise in population is largely due to a fall in death rates, which is always a good thing, but having smaller families will allow a higher quality of life for those who live in smaller families.
