  • did you hear what he said, he fought and there was color so we could have a life full of color

  • Happy veteran's Day! Thank you to all of you for your service!

  • Thanks to all vets out there. I owe you all more than I could possibly say.

  • Thank you vets. You do more for us than we can even comprehend. Happy Veteran's Day.

  • Love using this in my class.

  • Every-one belives that the war was in black and white and that war is just a game like the call of duty seiries but the truth is you cant '' re-pawn" in war lives were lost this song reminds me of my paitrism for the United States the war was in color

  • @webted100 I would be surprised if anyone actually believed that. If they did, I'd fully say that they are, in fact, idiots.

  • @webted100

This might have been a little more meaningful if you had correct spelling on at least every other word

  • @obviousahole "crawled over coca-nut logs and corpses in the coral sand" It's about ww2

  • My dad served in WW2 @ Iwo Jimo as a medic. He hates talking about that time, but occasionally when he does its not print a pretty picture. God rest those lost in battle and God love those who still live w/memories....including my dad 90 yrs of age

  • i never want this song to end!

  • This song gets me up for PT at 0530. Everything seems trivial compared to what these men and woman sacrificed so we could be here today.

  • Makes me cry every time I hear it. T_T

  • This song is beautifully sad. Carbonleaf is amazing.

  • this would make anyone want to be a WW2 Veteran

  • @Keitto191 this is korea...

  • @obviousahole like they wrote it specifically for the korean war cuz no body recognizes it

  • @obviousahole no its WW2 look at 4:52

  • @Keitto191 WWII, Korea..... doesn't matter. In general, this song could apply to any war (past or present) because they're all the same. Lives are lost before the men/women barely had a chance to live. They're cut down in their prime, never getting a chance to have a family, etc.

  • @MisterBeaucoup true, and all of it sad........

  • this song was going through my head in Captian America

  • I Rarely leave comments on videos, but to whomever made this video, its beautiful.

    Thank You

  • I am no fan of the current conflicts, but I love our armed forces and

this is a day we need to recognize their sacrifice.

oh and i love carbon leaf.

  • I am no fan of the current conflicts, but I love our armed forces and

this is a day we need to recognize their sacrifice.

  • One of the most important thing we can do as a society is to honor the hands willing to carry the guns and fight, while holding accountable the hands pointing those guns. We can all do more to make our nation and our society a better place. But no one can argue the point that those willing to fight and die are doing more than most of us are, and that should be respected. In that vein, we must and should be ensuring that our leaders make the right decisions.

  • These guys can write some lyrics.

  • It's amazing and sad to think that all the surviving people in these pictures are old now but it's odd to think that they were young once too.

  • @TheTexanCanadian It's not worship. It's appreciation that someone is brave enough to fight. It's a shame nobody taught you respect.

  • @ccshadle

I was taught respect, but that respect has to be earned. Just fighting for the sake of fighting deserves no respect.

  • @TheTexanCanadian

Another guy who gets it. As General Smedley Butler, USMC, twice the recipient of the Medal of Honor, said, "War is a racket." He said he was nothing but a high-class muscleman for corporate interests overseas, and while he suspected it while he was in the service of the State, (not his country) he said he was sure of it afterward.

  • @TheTexanCanadian As an Active duty Squad Leader in the Marine Corps I just want to say that you are the worst kind of person there is. I have seen a lot of the best men in the world die for their county and that is what they died for, not for profit, but their country. And for you to demean their death by claiming anything different just proves that you are an awful person. Those men were heroes and they deserve respect from the world, not ridicule.

  • @ThomasSmalls1987

"I have seen a lot of the best men in the world die for their county and that is what they died for, not for profit, but their country."

If that's what you want to call it, and what they believed, the truth doesn't really matter then does it?

"And for you to demean their death by claiming anything different just proves that you are an awful person."

I'm not demeaning their deaths, I respect intentions, but I care more about what is true.

  • @TheTexanCanadian It's not the soldier's fault though. Don't be a victim blamer. The person has to be put into account, soldiers aren't fighting so they can become rich. At the end of the day even if the government is wrong, they're not protecting us, the soldiers are. So even if the government is wrong, the soldier is right because the soldier doesn't fight for greed, a soldier fights so that the average person can live.

  • People in this video know more about what life's about than most will ever learn. It is because of this that whenever I see a man or woman in uniform, I make sure to say "thank you"

  • I'm going to Afghan shortly and to hear about Theocrat's story is inspiring. This song is amazing aswell

  • Brings tears to my eyes. As a proud Army wife, I want to say thank you to anyone who has served. Words just aren't enough, you are beyond heroic.

  • Sis pro pacis , instruo pro bellum.

  • Carbon Leaf is amazing. They did this one Grand Ole Opry style at the last show I saw in Cleveland, Ohio...just an amazingly powerful song. Makes me tear up every time I hear it...

  • Thanks for the amazing video! Fantastic song and video put to it!

My brother is serving, my best friend is in Afghanistan right now, and my other best friend is just getting out of the Army due to injuries. God Bless you all! Can't wait until its my turn to go again. About to graduate college with my BA degree and will be going back in as a Officer for the Marine Force Recon.

  • Thanks for the amazing video! Fantastic song and video put to it!

  • I'm gonna be in the Marines boys! 2 years from now! 16 once I hit 18 after high school going in!!!

  • My uncle was in the navy and his father and his father were both in the army.I diceided to serve my country also. I'm 13.

  • First, let me thank all who serve, and those who have. My Dad was a WW2 vet who died 2 years ago at 90. I spent 4 years in the USAF. I've started to catalog all the photos that he took during the war. There is nothing glamerous about war, and no one hates it more than a soldier. This song brings it home to all who will listen to the words.

  • volunteering with honor for are country I'm 18.

  • Hey Mark. Great channel you got here. Keep playing, you sound great. Oh, and love this song.

  • It's strange to see that, over the course of history people have always fought wars and that deaths are reduced to a number on a causality list. I' m 15 and I've read some books and articles about WW2. Once you have finished reading, you realize that the death of an individual is reduced to nothing but a sacrifice for a common goal. The strangest of al is that soldiers were lured into serving by saying that they were fighting a war of honour. I now see that there is no honour in war.

  • kids play call of duty and war games thinking its fun and exciting, well they got the exciting part right if you think wondering when the next casket is going to have a part of you in it. war isnt fun, its an unfortenat side effect of getting what we want or desire. war cat be stoped till greed is dead.

  • Many War vets die each day even after wars are long over because not even the greatest armor can stop the flow of time, but as long as I live I will remember them. It seems realy hard to imagine the world without the old war vets but one day it wont be an image in our heads it will be the present day, and that always makes me sad.

  • why, exactly, dont they use the stars anymore? at age 13, i would have a silver, and a golden star shining bright in my window. thank you jeremy, for staying silver.

  • I used this in my class today to discuss Veterans' Day. Thank you Barry of Carbon Leaf for writing this song.

  • Deeply moving

  • great song

  • As an Army vet I give Marines a lot of shit, but that's just sibling rivalry. I love and respect all my brothers: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Keep the Peace and remember to FIDO!

  • Who the hell disliked this??

  • @lilpainter11

    Hippies most likely.

  • Do enjoy your peace as I do, and the peace that the soldiers continue to fight for - for our benefit. I do not fault those who don't see it, and who are (as some have commented) sheltered, is that in part the reason the soldiers have fought? So that future generations can know peace. For the benefit of those who do fight and our future generation's ability to see it, please recognize and acknowledge their sacrifice and love for those they do not know.

  • To the younger folks, that feel that their generation have not seen war... look again - do you not see the world for what it is? Unfortunately there is no peace, true peace with out a fight something no many understand in part because there is a false sense of security in the power of the voice. It has it's roll but it is not the sole means to a peaceful end - you must do more than speak you must stand up strong and hard at times, and fight. Its a hard lesson to learn and difficult to swallow.

  • The price our troops pay, and yet some choose to boo them and call them monsters. It's atrocious. These men do more for us than any elected official, but are treated like slaves. They should be on our money. Statues should go up in their honor. They are the real heroes. God bless the troops.

  • If 1:10 doesn't give you chills, I don't know what will.

  • good song thanks for a song without glorifing

  • good song

  • i just bought this cd by chance a couple weeks ago and never heard carbon leaf before, this is my favorite song on the cd and i knew what it was about the first time i heard it, i always play it first then i listen to the other songs, it is one of my all time favorite songs, war is hard to understand, i've never been, but have always had a deep love for soldiers, life is hard and war is harder, May They All Rest In Peace, Keep The Faith .t.

  • As long as man lives there will be war it's sad that good people have to fight for are freedom. I haven't experienced loss of a love one through war but my best freind lost his dad. He never really recovered and i listned to this song it made me think no kid or parent should have to lose there child or parent to war. i will forever give the highest honor to those who put there lives on the line.Even if you don't intentually do it for love ones you still deserve so much so to all of you be safe.

  • I first heard this song at a flag retirement ceremony. The sad hirtory of war combined with the destruction of a syombol of my country brought tears to my eyes. Forgive me if i sound philosophical but my best friend's father is a soldier who has seen firsthand the horror that is war. As you can probably tell I love my country. Here's hoping Obama doesn't turns us into the USSR before his term ends.

  • @IomatRoblox I'm a soldier and patriots don't talk about their President, or anyone, in that manner. It's rude and ignorant.

  • @IomatRoblox As a soldier you should be ashamed to speak of any President or anyone in that disrespectful and rude manner. Spend some time in adult classes- I recommend English and History.

  • amazing song!!! :D

  • can anoyone tell me where i can download this song cuz ive seached everywhere :(

  • @GSBELKA iTunes

  • this song inspired me to join the USMC, i had a friend last year who died by ambush....he was my girlfriends dad...

    ~Semper Fi do or die

  • That made me cry. There's something distancing about black and white photographs, you don't realise the things that happened were quite real. 62 million people died, and they were in colour.

  • This song should be all over the radio on Memorial Day. Why isn't it?

  • Marines have pilots. They fly Harriers and Hornets and Ospreys. Marines have always had pilots.

  • this song rocks their is more to war then just pictures and movies

  • @mikehoncho933 there is - death. The huge loss of the family of the soldier left behind when s/he doesn't come home. Anyone that fights for this country has my utmost respect, it is a sad, sad commentary that that isn't true 100%

  • im only 14 right now, but im definately going to fight, hopefully a pilot for the marines

  • Pilot would mean Air Force or Army. Maries don't have pilots. Army is the way to go I did 6 years. Only thing Marines are good at is getting lost haha.

  • @HighCostOfLiving10 Spoken by someone who hasn't been in, I'm sure......

    Semper Fi!

  • @bob551000 Their contacted through The Air Fore or Army! Alought they may wear the Marine uniform.

  • Comment removed

  • @HighCostOfLiving10 All four services have pilots; they just fly different aircraft.

BTW, this is an amazing song from a great band. Carbon Leaf rocks.

  • i agree with the getting lost part haha, but the marines have awesome pilots

  • I hear the marines are the best pilots.

  • call of duty, finest hour reminds me of this song, this song reminds me of call of duty finest hour... lol.

  • Bravo Zulu

  • Awesome song man. Loved these guys in Raleigh on Jan. 15th.

    Semper Fi

  • Nice job ob the video....This has become a real powerful song in their live shows. Thanks to all those who serve.

  • lol at 3 24 that guy was funny.......... random, but funny

  • wow this song is amazing. brings out raw emotions, and is very inspirational. random, only just realised raw spelt backwards is war

  • the picture at 1:04... that really hit me... this whole song is amazing... love it.

  • "Among the Americans serving on Iwo island, uncommon valor was a common virtue." Adm. Chester A Nimitz

    how true it is everyday.

  • Thanks Video games for Glorifying the true image of war

  • atleast give movies some credit

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

    it my grampas fav song

we sang it at out vetrens day program

  • I wonder if Jamey Johnson is gonna give CL any credit...VERY Similar songs...

  • This song always brings out an emotional reaction in me, never more than today, Veteran's Day. Thank you to all our vets and to Carbon Leaf for such an inspiring song.

  • love this song my drama teacher played it for the class today due to it being vetrans day tommorow. very inspiring song and it really makes you realize the war...... i liked to thank all vetrans and the troops that are out there now...thank you for putting your life on the line for me everyday just so that i can live freely and not have a care about being safe because my country, the troops protect me and the vetrans who protetected myself and the country .....country....

  • was your drama teacher's name mr. holm?

  • carbon leaf does a lot of good things with veterans day on the way i will like to thank all of our war veterans and families, whenever the little kids of war vets see the photos of their parents, grandparents they see black but that is not how it was, being a proud owner of both call of duty waw and modern warfare 1 they seem to capture everything thank you war veterans

  • Very sad song

  • Very moving song. I relate to it.

  • Some days the word hero just doesn't cover it....

  • At 16 a Navy Chaplin knocked on the door of my parents' house, two years later I took my older brother's place in the Marines. Since than I have gotten a call from a frantic pregnant wife turned widow, seen my war hero high school friend looked at as a monster for his burns, performed 7 funeral honors, caught a bullet myself on my third tour, and learned today that a good friend from boot camp, married with a year old daughter, killed himself.

    I just turned 21.

  • im so sorry for your loss.

  • I'm sorry for your losses, The Theocrat.

People don't understand just what others sacrifice to protect this country. And they don't see what war does.

If they did, I'm sure they wouldn't bitch as much as they do.

  • And you still think it was the right decision?

  • TheTheocrat, I'm not sure whether to say thank you or I'm sorry. You have my respect and gratitude.

  • Fight on brother. Thank you for you sacrifice.

    Semper Fi

  • @TheTheocrat Sorry man. (22 years in, retired)

  • @TheTheocrat

Yeah, I know what you mean, a few days ago I got a call, one of my old friends hsd died. A couple of years ago I would have been stricken by this, but sence I joined I've seen 2 of my friends die and pulled a guy from a rope. Now death is just something that happens. I'm 19

  • @TheTheocrat War is hell man. I fucking respect you in the highest manner. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Even though I say all this, I have no idea what you've been through. Books, movies, games cannot even begin to describe it all. Fuckin salute you man. Thank you.

  • Words can hardly express the gratitude that is deserved, but from one Marine to another, thank you. People like make keep the Corps strong. Keep your head down and your spirits up.

  • love this song! my two friends sang it for me at a bonfire one night! its a great song to remember all our men and women who fought and are fighting for our freedom.

  • how did we get off of thanking our veterans for their service into calling each other names?

veterans or current service men and women. thank you for your protection of my freedoms.

  • hey, sorry I know it's late, and I know you didn't really expect/need a reply, but:

my dad says you're welcome. [[he's a veteran]]

  • thank you, and i also want to thank ur dad. you all do so much for our country.

  • Carbon Leaf rocks! I love these guys and this is a great video for this song.

It makes me a bit teary eyed.

  • Man, I'm glad my history teacher showed me this.

  • Great song! our history teacher showed us this because of the pacific ww2 footage.

  • i saw this in my histroy class and had to look it up, its an amazing video and an perfect song for it

  • ME TOO! I had to about like a week ago. I had to write a letter 2 the "grandpa"

  • same here the letter to the grandpa was really stupid, i just wrote a response and still got 25/25 and another response using the lyrics of the song, u know the rhyming and the rythem, got a 25/25 on that one too

  • Amazing video...I got goose bumps.

  • My father and grandfathers were military men. Some things they never got a chance to tell me, some they didn't know how to. This song invariably makes me cry in a big, sobbing way even as it makes me feel warm and close to them. Thanks you.

  • The Video was great. Where did you find the old black and white pictures?

  • I didn't, the band did.

  • Was this recorded live? It sounds different than on the album.

  • Speaking as a 14-year-old who has never seen war, I don't think I could really understand the impact of war without firsthand experience, and I believe that that is why my generation sees nothing wrong with life and tries to ignore and avoid war stories. I can just hope that Obama can help move toward peace, or we're all screwed. My comfort lies in that one of the most militant administrations in recent times is leaving on January 21.

Salutes to Obama, veterans, and Carbon Leaf.

  • My father was a German citizen but an American soldier in WWII. Like most of the second world war veterans he never spoke of his time in the service. I became a military officer and thank Carbon Leaf for this great tribute to an entire generation.

Your generation must remember the disasters that are Iraq and Afghanistan and work, actively, the prevent the US from starting other wars. As I hope Obama hiself would tell you, don't leave it up to him, take up the cause yourself.

  • i didnt really understand 9/11 when it happened because i was in kindergarten, but now i cant even look at a video of it, because i fell so weird, and disgusted by the fact that someone could do such a horrible thing... on my friends birthday my other friend showed a video of 9/11 and i had to look away and told him to turn it off... and he was laughing...

  • Most people are not aware that our armed forces members are being subjected to horrors every day that we can't even imagine because the news won't show it. Do some internet research on the subject and you will see just how awful a situation we are in. The U.S. is 1.2 TRILLION dollars in debt because of the war and the downturn of the economy. I agree with you I am looking forward to a new administration to heal our broken country.

  • "I believe that that is why my generation sees nothing wrong with life and tries to ignore and avoid war stories."

For most, perspective comes with age. Since you're only 14, don't look down on others who are sheltered enough to come to understand things you have come to know. Be patient.

  • @garion333 its hard to be patient at such a young age, Im only 16 but at least the boys gripping the ideal grasp of peace given to him and all of us. Though we do have to be patient, but i do wish that more respect was involved aswell. For what veterans and soilders have done for us, im so greatful.

  • There is nothing wrong moving toward peace. I spent 13 years in the Navy, and I saw my goal was to work myself out of a job. But so long as man is man, there will be a need for Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. For now, enjoy your teen years like I hope my daughter enjoys hers. They will be over all too quickly, just remember Jefferson said something along the lines of ... the price of freedom is eternal vigilance...

  • @obamamaniac42 Dude, you just have no idea, do you? I guess you don't remember Sept. 11 ?

  • @obamamaniac42 Thank you for a respectful comment, Although I personally disagree with obama I am glad to see that you are not one of those obama fanatics that instsantly view american soldiers as monsters and horrible people.

  • @Gladeator123

Ummmm.....sorry, but I suggest you look at the facts. There are virtually no people who think Amrican soldiers are monsters. I'm assuming in part you are referring to the Westboro Baptist Church? They are not affiliated with Obama. Thinking that liberals believe soldiers are monsters suggests that you have a very limited worldview.

  • @obamamaniac42 You have a lot to learn luckily time is on your side. Peace on earth is a myth there has not been a single period in the history of the world in which war was not being waged. You bought into a cult of personality created by the far left and the media. In the last year Afghanistan has worsened, North Korea attacked South, Israel, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan are all on the brink. The world is ugly prepared to fight for what you hold dear as no man in a suit will do it for you.

  • @obamamaniac42 If there are more people like you in your generation, that gives me hope. If you haven't seen Carbon Leaf live bring your parents to a show. They are fantastic live esp outside.

  • @obamamaniac42 hey man you gotta remember, there arnt many modern war stories recent wars the US has been in havnt been glamourus wars, tho you are right i too came to relize this at an early age and looked down on those who were sheltered but you have to remember its not the kids fault there sheltered and dont know what the fuck is going on in the world, its societies fault.

  • @obamamaniac42 hello

  • @obamamaniac42 When you look at war you have to play down the value of life, even a small war liek the one we have ( in comparison to ones we have been in) you have to.

It's strategy, we're not screwed, war is going to happen always and world peace is just a thought. I have family in the war, but I know nomatter how much you want peace it's only just wishful thinking

  • powerful song their...

  • good spelling. three thumbs up.

  • If you know anyone from the WWII era, get to know them. Ask questions.

I never asked anywhere near enough questions of my father who was engaged in a lot of wartime action. I have a box of his things, photos, and letters. If only I had the chance to talk to him again.

  • Everyone should be made to watch this on Veteran's Day.

  • and Memorial Day

  • I absolutely agree! There are not many of these great people left who served, and many gave their lives so that the USA and other countries could be free. I feel that we have let these Hero's down by the way we live now. I regret not serving myself coming from a long list of relatives who did serve. Next time you see a Veteran Thank them for the life you are able to live today. Free!

  • This is a very powerful song and kids love music! Hopefully this will help the latest generation believe what our military has done for us, to make us who we are, and respect them. Our schools are trying to fill their heads that it never happened. God bless you Carbon Leaf and God bless the USA, we'll need it.

  • The studio version does not do this song its justice.

The first time I heard this song was live and all I can say was that I was in tears. I prefer the live version.

Not saying this version isn't beautiful either though.

  • I'm a historian. I work in a museum. I've made this Carbon leaf song my anthem. It's exactly what we try to do at the museum, honor the fallen and those that sacrificed, and educate the next generation who can not consieve what it was like. Obviously from the cynical nature of the earlier posts we have more work to do. Remember what your fathers and grandfathers and now brothers are fighting for, as the last line says: A world without war, a life full of color.

  • Today is June 6. 63 years ago, our parents (or grandparents) held their breath and waited for news from Normandy. Here's a moment to think of ALL the brave lads who didn't come back, American, English, Canadian, or wherever else the Allies were from that day.

  • Here's hoping each and every one of you has a peaceful Memorial Day. We wouldn't be having one if it weren't for our vets. Take a moment to think of them today, of all days.

  • Agreed, and reciprocated. Land of the free, because of the brave.

  • powerfull song

  • LOve the ending

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Song----Awesome

    video---Wicked

this is put together well and amazin' song to.

    just plain ol' Love it!!

  • One of best clip;I cant say nothing more .........

  • Such an amazing song by such an amazing band. The combination of the individual story coupled with the sacrifice of all the brave soldiers who fought for our future is truly incredible. I hope the day never comes when I can listen without being moved.

  • this song makes me cry every time

  • This song is amazingly moving. My Granpa was a POW in a Japan at the time they bombed Hiroshima. Luckily, he made it home, but there were so many who didn't, I think it's good to have a reminder that we should never forget them.

  • WOW!

  • In my opinion, any one who is not moved emotional by this song is either completely out of touch with the real world or is cold monster inside. Every young man (such as myself) should understand that this could just as easily could be his voice.

War comes from opposing politics can no longer deal with each other in a diplomatic manner. If politicians run a war we get Vietnam and Iraq. I beg everyone of my generation to NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. Please support our veterans.

  • It's because all we see of the war is black and white photos, and this song's saying that it wasn't just a photo, that it was real, and that millions of people died in it.
