This video actually does the game very little justice - the hedgehogs were just the first of increasingly difficult enemies to face, and on more challenging levels...
In spite of the awful flicker (ha! how did we persevere?) this was actually an amazing game achievement on a 3.5MHz Z80-based machine, with no support hardware of any kind.
The people creating these games were seriously underestimated, they should be so proud of producing such addictive games with the extremely limited processor power and memory of these machines !!
Dead right. They had limited resources, yet created games with depth. In this instance there was a very definite, and realistic, feeling of weight, and inertia within this tiny little bike and 2-D scrolling scenery - superb!
I decided a few reviews myself.. errm everyone goes on about the well known things like elite and all the the US gold / ocean stuff.. there was a few choice things, and I'm suprised a few of them aren't listed in top 100's.. hhmm oh well I guess people missed a lot of the older things.
a friend of mine bought this game in 1984 or 85. it cost £10 which was alot of money then! almost half an austin mini. well not quite but shows that computer games were always expensive! a local newspaper was 10p, a bus journey averaged 12p, a mars bar was 18p, a can of coke 10p.
He should have got pirates mate. £10 was a lot of money back then especially since it was kids playing the games. No wonder the publishers made a fortune. The programmers would get about 1p for every tape sold.
i think i remember taking a Boots Computer Cassette Recorder apart in my younger days, there was a metalic drum thing that stored energy even with everything unplugged. zapped me big time. :(
In terms of playability and enjoyment, one of the best games on the Spectrum.
All in less than 48 kilobytes and on an audio cassette tape. Great times!
Thanks for the video.

This is one game I don't have. Used to have it on a pirate tape but never came across it again. It was £5.95, so pretty much spot on there.

Never go by a top 100. It's all about the enjoyment you get out of a game that counts.

ah the old selotape over the copy-protect holes trick
keeprighton2007 4 years ago
Dont need selotape to do that. Just open up the cassette player press play and record and push the record thing inside the machine.

im not going near those whirlygig things. how do you point at things with no fingers??
keeprighton2007 4 years ago
I dont suppose you could use your toes to press it. Maybe put a screwdriver in your mouth and try it that way. Always worked for me.

I know what you mean. It's safer sticking a screwdriver into a mains socket!

@SPINNYFUCK
Haha I remember doing that as well.
