Tim, first: thanks: was familiar with SMARTR, but Ecology is a new one--it's good to be reminded of the elements of goals; I tend to achieve more of them when I set the goals smartly (no pun intended).
Second, wow. The negativtity really surprises me--why bother to comment if it's not really constructive?
And third, Naomi and Johnny T give you thumbs up--so do I.
@tmfarland Thanks for the comment and the negativity isn't a problem at all. If they get off on it let them knock themselves out. It takes all sorts, right?
hi there, me again sorry about this, but we are in the same game, and i can't let this slide, but i cannot believe that you are being disrespectful to something like the law of attraction, because surely as the mind body simbience of nlp's infrastructure has the same outcomes as the law of attraction, and you obviously know nothing about the law of attraction as it does not say that you chant, and it arrives, the action is taken by the client without it being a chore, surely you know that
Go to my site and click on Law of Attraction in the tag cloud and read the post 'The Law of Attraction is a Con' if you really want to know what I think. It's a long one so don't draw any conclusions before you get to the end.
I like your videos because they are interesting and helpful. Thank you. I noticed that you are from the UK and that now you are living in the USA. How long have you been in the USA?
I wonder which ones you ruled out, Tim. Although the S.M.A.R.T. anagram approach to goal-setting may "work best" at selling 100s of books, they are so grossly overdone that even your clients could do better with a change! Beyond that, I was simply stating that the terms MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, and RATIONAL are less trite, more efficient, and more useful (if not better) criteria to set goals, for the reasons I previously stated. I really didn't intend to confuse you with my opinion.
@dukenthaylor I see your point Duke and Tim's as well. To me we are all getting hung up in the semantics. The best one for you is the one that helps you accomplish your goals the best. Some people need details, some people need simplicity. It's like debating which single size of clothes is best for everyone, imo. I'm a details guy, so the SMARTER system is superior for Me. I can see where that would not be the case for everyone, even a majority of folks who need help achieving their goals.
@galendracos I get that people are different, G, even though I'm also a details guy! But I wouldn't spin redundant criteria as my reinvention of the wheel, just to sell a book. There's already enough stagnant fluff out there! And even if I could, I really couldn't defend ANY redundant system as a superior one! I hope we're not THAT different!

4 variables too many. Only 3 are needed to set goals efficiently:
Functionally, *M*EASURABLE is obviously much more practical (and less nebulous) than "specific."
Uh-oh, Pop Quiz! Fill in the blank:
A unit of ___________ is "based" on "time!" XD
*A*CHIEVABLE, for the same reasons above, TOO wins functionally over "action-oriented" AND "realistic." MORE deadweight terms for the Goal Nebula!
And don't *R*ATIONAL ("in our best interests") goals "reward" me for serving the "ecology?"

Sorry, you've completely lost me! What I will say is that working with 100's of clients, the ones above are the ones I find work best.
