esta cancion cada vez que la veo y entiendo lo que dice... es un golpe fuerte de emociones, siempre hace que mi ser se volque internamente y no puedo dejar de pensar en los tantos "jeremys" que estaran viviendo esto... =S
Easy to say the best revenge is to live on, sometimes when loneliness and isolation are too much you just want to end it. Maybe Jeremy got his revenge by making them watch his demise, something they will never forget...
@JacobsSilhouette The whole purpose was too show that killing yourself doesn't give you revenge, because it shows the description and weather in the beginning, and how it hasn't changed in the end. Live on, prove yourself, that's true revenge.
That's the beginning of the video and that's the same thing is that in the end, it does nothing … nothing changes. The world goes on and you're gone. The best revenge is to live on and prove yourself. Be stronger than those people. And then you can come back.[7]
modern music can't compare to 60's and 70's that is correct but music from the 2000's can absolutely compete with the 80's and 90's if you open your minds abit you may discover some of the pearls from the 2000's, there are many.
@samhu117mx1 When asked about the song, Vedder explained: It came from a small paragraph in a paper which means you kill yourself and you make a big old sacrifice and try to get your revenge. That all you're gonna end up with is a paragraph in a newspaper. Sixty-three degrees and cloudy in a suburban neighborhood.
Pearl Jam dominated the 90's! If you guys think the 2000's suck you aren't looking hard enough. Foo fighters and rhcp are still going strong and the indie rock is fun to listen to!
Let's be realistic. Of course music used to be better but if you give up looking like most of you have done then obviously you'll never find good songs to define the 2000's. I have found lots of rock that I like, not the whiney Emo crap but Indie/Alternative/Post-grunge/ Hard rock.
Bands like The Kooks, The Fratellis, Etc.. Their are great songs I like, Lonely day-Phantom planet for Example. A song I really like. Music has changed true, but I can embrace it
@Whyyousuchadumbbutt i think you've got a point there. just that it might take a lot more years for these bands to become legendary. hence we're kinda biased towards the already legendary bands. the kooks, rhcp, alter bridge are all bands i like. but just that i've never been able to compare them to any of the old school bands. maybe 10 years later, they'll be legends too! :)
@713victoria I agree 100%. I just turned 12. I hate mainstream and me and my mom (we're both 90's alternative fans) always talk of how the mainstream has changed from the 50's to 2010. Its so scary seeing Lady Gaga (or Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, etc.) perform because it makes you realize: our generation sucks and not just the music. Technology has ruined us.
OMG! this music really makes you realize how much stronger of a message music from the 80s and 90s had, the music of this decade SUCKS!!!! And i can say that, im 14, im from this generation, and dont get me wrong, im not saying that for all music now-a-days, i like some of todays music, but my dad was born in the late 70s, mom from the mid-80s, and i find myself listening to their music more often than my own generations!!!!!!!
@713victoria I'm 16 and I can totally relate to the music of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. I love it because not only is it authentic, but yes, it had a great message. Sure, a lot of the 80s pop sounded the same, but still that message had meaning, the videos were artistic, and living life was just better. It was interesting to even see everything that went into making a movie or raising HIV/AIDS awareness just because the past decades were better and more intriguing! I agree with you.
Hey, what's up everybody... I'm here because all of you guys are Pearl Jam fans, and because, if you can deal with a little bit of 'spam', I'm here to promote my new band Overshadowed. We just got done recording our demo, it's on our channel, and we'd love if anyone could simply check the songs, leave a comment, or anything of the sort. We'd really appreciate it!
FYI, I came HERE because we love and respect Pearl Jam, and are hoping for whatever respect you guys might have leftover...
DEAR ALL ROCK AND NIRVANA FANS, FEBRUARY 20TH IS KURT COBAIN'S BIRTHDAY. THAT DAY WE WILL ALL VISIT THE "SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT" VIDEO, LIKE IT, AND WISH HIM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY. NOT ONLY WILL IT PAY BACK RESPECT TO HIM, IT WILL ALSO HELP NIRVANA GET TO THE TOP OF YOUTUBE AGAIN. THUMBS UP THIS COMMENT AND REPOST THIS ON ANY NIRVANA OR ANY ROCK VIDEO.
i wish i lived back in the 80s and 90s but im only 14 but god i love this type of music, screw the shit these days i hate hip hop its all about sex and drinkn theres no meaning like in this genre of music
@houl666 Same dude. I have mad respect who are treated that way and how they can stand up to it. They take pain and punishment everyday. I am one of those kids who are disrespected everyday. But i think of this song.I say to myself, i will never go this far. I am strong and i am one. No matter how alone i may ever be i will stay strong. I am one, I am ten. I am Jeremy.
@houl666 Dude, I was exactly where you are 10 years ago, I was picked up, thrown down stairs, gossiped about and just generally treated like dirt at school, but it wasnt just at school. At the risk of sounding like a cliche, it does get better, I promise. Don't rise to it and all those kids who pick on you now will be cleaning your offices when you're the CEO of a huge corporation. Keep the picture of you walkin along their just mopped floors and them callin you sir.
Not a bad video, but nothing beats the other version. That video is probably the most powerful, amazing video ever made, although I am pretty biased as a big PJ fan.
i wonder sometimes! my son was like 12 when it came on mtv. and i was a single mom. it really affected him. i so dig pearl jam but, it was a hard minute. he did eddy vedar at a family talent show. he nailed him. but, like. at 12? i got worried!
this isnt even the original.. the original got banned because theres a breif moment where the class solutes hitler.. and also in the real version it shows bullet holes in his classmates
It is the original, made on a low budget. The second video, edited for MTV , shows him putting the gun in his mouth. It does not show bullet holes in his classmates: it shows them splattered with his blood. The scene where he puts the gun in his mouth was later edited out, so many viewers assume it was murder, no suicide.
It was actually the record company that rejected this video, not MTV. A second video was shot, and had to be edited before MTV would play it, mainly because of a scene showing Jeremy putting a gun in his mouth.
This song channels a powerful message through its sonic medium. In 1991, in a Richardson, Texas high school, a 16 year old sophomore named Jeremy Wade Delle, in front of his english class, pulled out a .357 magnum revolver and blew out his brains. Hence the lyrics of Vedder's writing, "Jeremy spoke in class today".
I was born in 92' but when I was like 5 I first was able to recognize pearl jam on the radio, they were my very first favorite band, and they're still a favorite, god Vedder kicks ass...
I grew up in the 90s, born in the 80s I remember this time, not so much the Ten era stuff but definitely used to hear Betterman and Daughter on the radio a lot I remember when Yield came out and I saw the Do The Evolution video. I totally didn't appreciate PJ until prolly '99 or 2000 after hearing Alive on the radio and seeing the Jeremy video and realized what I'd been missing out on. Been obsessed ever since, and I don't think music has ever been the same.
@Rexmundia I have heard of them, I like some of their songs but I don't know. Not really my kind of music I guess. However they are better then most bands by today's standards.
@IPlayARedOvation sadly, we make the era we live in today, lets do a huge petition & bring Back The Rock And Roll, The Punk, The Grunge etc.. What say?
@vibesofvivek Im in but how about we all form bands, well thats atleast what im doing i gotta find a lead singer im trying to form a grunge punk band any one in ontairio
mtv didnt reject the song, the record company did. they didnt plan on making jeremy into a single, so they refused to fund it, but then they decided to make it a single, so they made their own video. mtv had nothing to do with it
i think this version is way better, because you have to actually listen to what he's saying.
it seems like sometimes when people watch music videos, they are just getting the general idea of the song from the video. in this one, you have to get what the video is about from the song.
i hope that made sense. but i think this is beautiful. i love pearl jam for bringing stories like this to light.
this video is more logical, cause the kid in the MTV version is only like 12 years old, and the kid in this video is more mature. besides, Pearl Jam makes it seem more like a story, and MTV makes it seem like its just another random hit song by a grunge band.
It's really cool because the band members appear a lot more, but the story's a little hidden, there's no emphasys on Jeremy's story. The MTV (or whatever's) version is cooler because it's like a story being told by Eddie, like he's narrating the story.
And this video is alright. It's really repetitive ( the band rotates on a dias ) with little clips of a boy. The other version had deep visuals of the boy and his reasons for suicide.
Pearl Jam made this version and felt it looked like wayne's world. They re-did the video in Germany. Had nothing to do with MTV. This video was never released.

Pearl Jam made this version and felt it looked like wayne's world. They re-did the video in Germany. Had nothing to do with MTV. This video was never released.

I like Pearl Jam's version of the music video more than MTV's version.
