  • manu lost.

  • Does anybody know where I can find the full clip of this interview? I would be interested in hearing the newsreaders retort.

  • i dont think they understand, the media WANTS to kick it off

  • I'm wracking my brain here trying to figure out where the music is from.

  • @TrillionGrams Johan Johansson's IBM 1401 -- Part I

  • same damn thing is happening again with the Oslo and Utoya killings. Will they never learn

  • Comment removed

  • "a broadcast from the lego dimension" lol!

  • One of Charlie Brooker's best bits, and great music as well.

  • @Pieh0

johann johannson and charlie brooker just go hand in hand!

One of my favourite pieces of broadcasting this - just a shame that the topic in question is so horrific.

  • media = bollocks

  • ...and also do not cover mass murders online. eg this video on youtube :)

  • @JayInamoto Newswipe with Charlie Brooker is a satirical current-affairs program, it's main aim is to expose the way the media work; how sensationalism works, how the media get away with huge disinformation and exploring their often arbitrary cover stories; if all else fails, a few inches of snow is good enough to report! The part with the forensic psychiatrist is a clip taken from the BBC's News program and unless you didn't release he (Brooker) is mocking them (The BBC).

  • music is Jóhann Jóhannsson - Processing Unit watch?v=tBw_wSoVQrY

  • What music was this?

  • the beauty of death we all adore

  • ratings>taking steps to reduce the chance of more mass murders

  • Does no one else find this ironic?

  • @pclinger explain, im acutally intrugied

  • @talk2malawyer I think pclinger is saying that it's ironic because of the Gabrielle Gifford shotting incident of yesterday.

  • @pclinger

    Not in the slightest.

  • Extra relevant today. These assholes do it for the attention. That's why they do it loud, with guns blazing, in public. They want to be demonized. They want to be immortalized. And we continue to play right into their morbid fantasies.

Don't feed the trolls, online or IRL.

  • Yeah, in my country 30 years ago we already knew how to report such things properly in the media. He didn't invent anything new. But what can one do when one must watch crappy news after crappy ads before a brainless movie on TV? I never understood this phenomenon in the country I live in now. If it doesn't work to use our brains individually, maybe mass education would work, and for that we need an egalitarian society. ie. support your 'neighbour' and make strong groups and demand to be heard.

  • does anyone have a link to the full interview with that forensic psychiatrist.

  • video games has nothing to do with insane people

  • chilling. but were as much 2 blame as the media, if nt more so. they feed us this inflammatory shit coz we'll take it. coz we love 2 rubberneck, we hav 2 hav sum1 evil 2 blame wether its a sick, jumpd up little shit or the mindless posturing of news channels vying 4 our attention. if the news jus sed "by the way 16 kids wer killd in germany 2day" n left it at that, wed go "WHO?" "WHERE?" "WHEN?" "HOW?"-

  • @pacbizkit It's our fault and the media's, it's too late now though. I say that because we're conditioned as a society to expect to know every detail that we're interested in because we're force fed this bile at an alarming rate every day. So when something like this happens we expect and demand this type of coverage. Only because we've been conditioned to do so. Only when we step back and look at it outside of our usual routine do we realize how wrong and inciting it actually is.

  • @sephyr242 Have an upvote sir/madam, you're Almost there

  • @pacbizkit you speak like a fucking retard

  • @batwingedloony yeah but you are a fucking retard, yo' mamma told me.

  • CONT- it our fault as a society that we giv these little murdering fucks so much attention, n the news is jus propergating more violence as an outlet for our own morbid fascinations

  • Won't someone think of the ad sales

  • I agree with it all... Just one thing: I love how "fucking" is censored, but "twat" isn't... Just a little thing I noticed. I like what you're doing here though, it's what so many of us are thinking!

  • Sadly whoever edited this clip from the episode cut off the news anchor's baffled response at the end, which I would say is THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE WHOLE SEGMENT. The fact that even when the reality of how their coverage plays a roll in the world around them is right there slapping them in the face they still either don't get it, don't care, or are simply willing to rationalize away their own culpability in such matters or events, and carry on with business as usual.

  • This is my favourite part of Newswipe. It is so perfectly constructed, makes me well up

  • Like a broadcast from the fucking lego dimension.

  • i wish this was on DVD

  • Very insightful, for all his hilarious jokes and stupid antics, charlie brooker also makes a point about the seriousness that the media are actually the ones making this world a shitty place, not the people.

  • This should be argued in every single government building in the world. And then some real legislation brought in that requires all media input to be zero and all information related to the event will be communicated on a local level only. I'm in Ireland and Moate is under my skin, I feel like I've watched a horror film. Pass this video on, email it to your local TD MP Senator.

  • i couldnt help but think of this clip when seeing the coverage of derrick bird and raoul moat.

  • @kbtreturns The media never learn, do they? Funny they bombard us with this sort of coverage, and then they wonder why it happens again, or why someone sets up a Raoul Moat tribute page...

  • is it just me, or are the news people trying to make this kid look cool??

  • I think the word is PRESCIENT.

  • every news station in UK today seems to have ignored this advice.

  • @markyboybdi - This is so true, now 'Derrick Bird' is famous and a potential role model to another person

  • @markyboybdi yep and they still are rubbernecking in Cumbria oh well as long it gets ratings/sells papers!

  • The world needs more people like Park Dietz.

  • very true. Park Dietz is a clever guy, he has intereviewed most known serial killers including Jeffrey Dahmer and Richard Kuklinski.

  • Hey look at that, the media DOES incite people to do stupid shit

I'm looking at you Glenn Beck

(Speaking of which it was pretty amusing to see his name on the suspect line of a police report for rape and larceny)

  • Hey, Charlie Brooker has something to say about that.

  • so true though, the news has basically turned into a shitty moving picture version of "heat" magazine......bullshit.

  • the last bit really got to me.

  • I can't believe this only has 13k views, he's pretty much hit the nail on the head about these mass killings. The news media turns them into rebel anti-heroes which inspires others to do the same.

  • Someone else has this same video, but shorter. Probably has more views.

  • The best bit is cut off - the newsnight guy spluttering out a vague comeback, knowing that himself and his programme are guilty of exactly what the psychiatrist was warning against.

  • The lego dimension, love it :D

  • I completely agree with what the psychiatrist says at the end....it's been statistically proven that the more suicides are reported, the more they occur. Such is why people have a skewed perspective as to how many happen all the time, (because they rarely report this activity). Granted, this is a bit different of a situation, but they ought to change how they cover these tragic events.

  • bit like bridgend, where 25 people commited suicide in a few months and most were covered by the 'news'

  • So apparently poitning on deficient reporting isn't in any way meaningful that you felt it was appropriate to write post saying "get a life?"

And yes, he does have a job. The show that this clip is from is his job.

  • do your research before you leave pointless comments, and it isnt just the bbc, try watching the whole episode, or be really brave and watch the whole series

  • If anyone is curious, the music in the background is from Johan Johansson's IBM 1401 -- Part V iirc.

  • part 1 :)

  • Thank you brother - you've put me out of my misery. I wanted this music for quite some time and lo and behold, it's beautiful :)

  • It really is -- but i like his album Fordlandia better, if only because there's more of it to enjoy.

  • nice one mate. Was looking for this

  • @Baxterrawrrawr

    Thank you!

  • Thank you very much for posting this. It was extremely insightful.

  • Media = fail

And they have been blaming video games all this time.

  • amen. that was on my mind all the time when I saw the coverage of this incident.

  • The Wire, Deadwood spring to mind.

  • Oh, and High School Musical.

  • he likes things that deserves to be liked.

and, for some reason, monarch of the glen.

  • ahhahahahahaha great name. The Murdering Little Nihilistic Twat Pin-up Boys will be mine.

  • THE FUCKING LEGO DIMENSION! Thank you so much sir, for naming my band.
