@Soldier4USA2005 incorrect sir. the alternator charges the battery while the car is running. thus the reason your battery starts to die without the use of the alternator.
@0lllTigerJeetlll0 there is nothing wrong with gasoline! it just we use century old tech to utilize it. The cardan system is efficient by 40% maximum. There is engines that work differently from classic ones in circular motion and not reciprocating. It just when we use more efficient engines we'll consume less fuel and thus decreasing income for oil companies))) it is so simple! BTW all batteries are more toxic then oil.
I am extremely impressed by my NiMH (Nickel Metal Hybrid) & Lead Acid Rechargeable batteries. What makes batteries weaker than Petroleum-Gasoline is the Amperage. If Petroleum is compared to Rechargeable batteries than Petroleum un-leaches 10,000 Amperes of Fast rated Ultra-High Amperage batteries.Petroleum does un-leash more explosive energy but in due course time, man may produce Lithium-Ion Batteries that can un-leash 5,000 Amperes of Current at over 2048 Volts by which Batteries=Petroleum!!!!
this is retarded.... battery technology has been suppress for year and years... to keep fossil fuel on the market.....and the patent are there only to suppress future technology...
look energy can be more efficient if you harvest many types of energy from one source, look im 16 and im making schemes to build a machine wich transforms sound into energy

Shut up and take my money..... I mean, shut up and learn me more..... Ehm, hmm.... Well.... I mean, don't ever stop talking, it's allways intersting when you talk about something.
@MisterBouncyBounce Sometimes I wonder where he fits in the time to do something that isn't hyped up populist babble. Apparently he's a real physicist, but when?
I think Kaku means efficient as in it is easy to derive energy from burning fossil fuel since per weight wise, it contains more energy than battery and easily release (efficiency) but I do not think he thinks that burning fossil fuels is energetically efficient since I'm pretty sure he understands thermodynamics. Sigh he can be rather misleading sometimes
Gasoline stores something close to 44 MJ/kg. A typical ICE is around 30% efficient. Lithium-polymer batteries store around 4 MJ/kg, but a typical electric motor can exceed 90% efficiency. So it's 12 MJ/kg for electric, 44 MJ/kg for gasoline, which is still quite far off.
Excellent numbers! Don't forget though, a battery can re-store kinetic energy whereas an ICE auto hemorrhages it out through the brake pads. If you're talking acceleration, ICE will win, but if you're talking distance possible to travel, the theoretical maximum on an ICE is a few hundred miles, whereas the theoretical maximum on a battery is INFINITE!
...plus the ICE is making our planet uninhabitable.
Again, I find myself questioning his rationale. Gasoline is efficient because it is refined. And transported. And the workers have to be supported by products, transport, and the use of enormous amounts of fossil fuels in order to... produce more fossil fuels. Even if you break down only the amount of energy directly put into producing gasoline, you see that it is not "very efficient". However, I do not think that greed is the only factor that has kept alternatives from succeeding.
Only about 35% of the chemical energy in gasoline is converted into kinetic energy.. Not efficient at all in my opinion. Batteries may be able to STORE less energy, but less energy is lost. If they can develop batteries with larger capacities then they may well replace fossil fuels entirely.
@thatguywithnoname thats true, but the amaount of energy in that reaction is still large, but we cannot make use of it all since most of the evergy will be heat.
When you think about it, gasoline is a type of "supercapacitor", as energy is stored in the electric fields in the chemical bonds. It seems that with these new-fangle "nano capacitors" we're just going in circles. Has everyone forgotten about fuel cells? They rely on chemical energy, but liberate that energy in a much cleaner and efficient way than crude burning.
@djr4yman its efficient... for how many miles or km you can run on compared to its weight. 1l (=0,72kg) can cary you (with eta=0,3) about 12km. A battery cant... Thats what he means. And still electricity comes out of oil and coal which isn better ;) If everyone would produce his own electricity by solar it would be much much better ;)
We should strongly consider alchohol fuel made with hemp and alguea. Not necessarely to replace everything, but that, along with wind, tidal and solar power will be the future no matter what...we will run out of petroleum and the price will be ridiculous..how much more you're paying for a liter of gas compared to 10 years ago? Almost twice!
@james7694 Hybrid are the worst choice. - You need a big battery, 2 enginees and a normal motor. - The additional weight from all that stuff makes the car need more energy to drive a distance then a car with say, only a gas engine. - If you want to save the world, buy a small car with a small engine, like a VW polo.
Hybrids also got way more stuff/electronics in them, which increase the chanse of something to break, which increase the chanse that you need to fix your car.
Yes but we have the technology to not pollute the atmosphere and upset nature if we just walked to the shop instead of taking the car.. We intelligently select what is best for our future.
Keeping information secret "because it is too dangerous in the wrong hands" is the biggest lie in humanity. Making information secret by definition makes that information in the wrong hands already. If everyone has access to such information then it reduces the power that information has in anyone's hands because we're on a level playing field then. Those withholding information are the most dangerous individuals on the planet. That's why we're in such a mess. Knowledge hidden is tyrany
If even the smartest scientist in the world cannot tell me how the most basic, tiniest, simple cell was created or came to be. How could you ever convince me to believe in a "theory" such as the big bang or evolution? In other words... if you can't explain the smallest and simplest of all things... how does ANYONE put all their belief in a made up theory that is so complex? Man's mortal attempts to deny Creation is pretty sad. Psalm 14:1
... cont... also work into the fact that an Edison Battery can be recharged, via solar, for 20-50 yrs. Try recharging a gallon of gas. Then add up the joules. What a ludricous statement, from someone so intelligent. More-over, why not get used to the fact that HUMANS are inefficient, we are energy greedy planet enslaving inefficient non governing pawns... who need to wake up and change. Change the people, then we'll change out fuel.
We need to get used to the fact that gasoline is not efficient. What is efficient is the volume / size relationship between the energy stored per cubic volume, compared to the volume extractable on demand. Work into the fact the cost in environment, human life, human potential, and just sheer cost to deliver that "gallon of gas", and the scales tip a bit more towards the battery. ... cont ....
@kallsenator Tesla was a brilliant guy, and was correct in pushing for AC instead of DC transmission. However, he was dead wrong about a lot of things including his vehement denial of Einstein's theories of relativity, which are supported by an enormous amount of evidence. Being intelligent does not mean you are always correct. Kary Mullis, the man who came up with PCR, a fundamental tool in biotechnology, is an HIV/AIDS denialist.
@MetalMilitia5488 Very true, but whether or not his wireless technology was a viable option it was worth pursuing much like any new technology. An HIV/AIDS denialist? What does he base its non-existence on?
@stuffofdream Petroleum is a finite resource, but it is ultimately just hydrocarbon chains. Photocatalysis can be used to reduce CO2 to medium/long chain hydrocarbons and aromatics. The problem with photocatalysis is that catalysts are expensive (Pt, Rh, Ru, etc.) and the process has low yields. Microorganisms can be genetically modified to produce n-butanol and other next-generation biofuels with comparable thermodynamic properties to gasoline.
If people bought gas like bottled water - picking it up a gallon at a time - they might get the picture: all that mass is going into the atmosphere. Yes, we the people of the Earth are affecting the chemistry of the air - the narrow lens of atmosphere is only about 62 miles thick/wide/high. Battery technology is the future only when coupled with wind, solar, and ocean current possibilities. We can't wait for fusion (which will be dangerous - all concentrated power is dangerous).
And here I was, thinking Thomas Edison and Henry Ford conspired against Nikola Tesla to make him look crazy, steal his ideas and use them to bring about world war 2, for the financial gain from the necessary industry from the war-effort and because Ford was a major antisemite...
Damn you, Assassin's Creed games, you have lied to me!
@derangius I already have a life supply. Besides, do you really think I would fall for your little scheme? The hats you're offering obviously have Brain/idea/soul-sucking lifeleech capacitors(tm) imbedded in them.
I'm like my many hypothetical aborted fetal brethren and sisthren: Not born yesterday.
If you think about it. Gasoline, any very "explosive" substance is a form of batterey. Energy stored in Moleclues. When the heat is right it combines with air and that chemical reaction realeases energy. We then use that energy to power a motor -->hense physical energy.
Nikolai telsa won't win, because its the most humane powershareing, which will make energy free for all people. The people going for teslas consepts will lose their money because everyone can tap into that powert source. Steal the energy, from people who makes money on controling this source. Tesla was a man of justice. Thats Why he lost all his funds too continue his work. Realice the fact.
If humanity live to too see the next 500 years. It may be tesla who wins. but only if we overcome greed
@Vatoaztecas Well, the knowledge is there, most of it. I'm sure some of his greatest ideas was clasified to the extent, that the world is not yet ready for it. With a lot of power comes lot of responsibility. And that there is the part that people bought the patents after they ran out of date to secure their part of the income in the future if it will get practical to sell it. Some even got coverered up to be a classified document, because its simply to dangerous left in the wrong hands.
@Vatoaztecas if there comes a man/woman that has the ability to see the things tesla did, from consepts he observed and calculated, there is a possiblity that thouse lost secrets weill be rediscovered. but will not put to use because of greed of rich people trying to coltroll it, or protect" ourselves" from it. Thats why i stated that we need to overcome the human factors like greed, that stops us from putting beauty of discovery and unity of the results into practical application.
@Vatoaztecas Capitalism= Devidieng people(rich/poor-survival of the "fittest"), with a nice pizza topping of democracy("freedoom") - makeing it so wonderfull because we can vote on who ever lieing political snake we want. Even the good harted ones lies to get too the place they want, if the situation carries them too it.
@WerewolfSlayer91 I hear you but it can change as long as those willing to fight for it are willing to die for it.. Its time we gave a better future to our kids then we got.. :D
@WerewolfSlayer91 There is no "free energy". No reproducible experiment in the history of science has discovered any way to get out of a system more energy than was initially present or which was entering the system. Likewise, entropy is constantly increasing in a given closed system. These two points are so fundamental that they are the basis for the common consensus in astrophysics about the way in which the universe will "end". Or better put, its final (and indefinite) state
(responses out of order) In virtually all cases where a system is moving away from stability, the results are either a return to stability (which would not reflect unlimited energy), or an event such as consumption of the reagents in a chain reaction or death in the case of disease. The only exception is the constant expansion of the universe at increasing speed. But to explain this we have the concept of dark energy, which is not usable by us and was unknown to Tesla.
@WerewolfSlayer91 Thinking logically about this, in nature, things tend toward stability. Any time a system is moving away from stability, the tendency is for that system's rate of change to be constantly increasing. Such events occur in circumstances like chemical chain reactions, or disease conditions in homeostatic organisms.
@WerewolfSlayer91 but remember if energy would become free for everyone , and it's not EXTREMLY cheap to make it , the system would collapse becouse you have not enought money to keep the electric power plant alive
@Koroistro It is not cheap to make ofc. And people can steal the power from the air. Thats why Nikola was shut down. Nikolai's funder couldn't see how he could make money from it and at the time it seemed like magic. The idea that you could tap into a powergrid from the air seemed impossible. To fund this you could have a monthly fee from everybody to fund the power being distributed. Or you could have the same powercounters we have today.
@WerewolfSlayer91 Even though the disepaite of voltage would be the Radius squared from the source (R^2) . Raduis= R . This would be much loss, but then again we are talking about millions of voltage.
@WerewolfSlayer91 Nah , if you focus the signal in a determined zone , in a protected frequency (maybe not a fixed one and not only one frequency) you could gain on the fact that you have a dispersion way lower that actualy transport way.
Instead MANY wires city to city you can just build X receivers and X senders on radiowawe and go ;D (but yeah stealing it would be really easyer)
@Koroistro You cannot protect a frequency like that. It is energy in the air, and aslong as you got an atenna You could proably restrict mostly the power being transmitted to your country if you had an atenna array point it at atmosphere with a certain frequency and get it to reflect of a layer of the atmosthere, most likely the ionosphere.
@WebVManReturns very limited its the alternator that recharges the battery and supplies continued spark to the engine of a already started vehicle in reality the gas engine supplies 99% of the energy required.
@MrJohnboy006 if so than you should know better :] (notice the smiley face)...i see you've changed your comment so i don't really know if your full of shit or not...im over it
@WebVManReturns stored electrical energy starts the engine, the engine turns the alternator and charges the battery, thus engine provides 100% of energy required...because it's charging it for the next start up...if you want to be technical..engines convert chemical energy to mechanical energy to electrical energy....light,sound...burnout energy?..back to mechanical when the starter motor is engaged.point being engine makes 100% for the car to operate
@WebVManReturns The battery gives you the initial amperage required to start your engine and once started the engine spins your alternator to provide the current necessary to run everything to include lights, radio etc.yes, you can run your accessories without starting your engine to include your lights but your battery will go dead after an hour or two depending on how old and type of battery you have.
...manipulate the highly advanced particles at do live, thrive and travel faster than the speed of light to help them travel the cosmos- and without relying on gasoline or batteries (not as we know "batteries" today, anyway)- if such said alien race can do all that to get here. They are surely going to be crafty enough to observe us extensively without us even knowing. He'll. If we do find out, I bet there are multiple "fixes" for that too. ...just passing thoughts....
What if neither batteries nor gasoline were needed to travel the vast expanses of space? I'm not just talking about if our object in motion is not acted on by an outside force. No. What if I am suggesting that perhaps batteries and gasoline combustion engines are actually counter productive. Therefore making us the equivalent (or less) to a snail entering a physically oriented distance covering per unit of time race on Earth. Are we positive that there is nothing in the spaces between systems a
oh yeah, gasolines are efficient but cars are not. Less than 1% of the energy of internal combustion actually moves the cargo. Rest of the energy are spent pushing the weight of the car.
Electricity is inefficient, because normally you are converting it from fossil fuels (by burning to heat steam and turn a turbine.) It just when we use more efficient engines we'll consume less fuel and thus decreasing income for oil companies))) it is so simple!

Sigh he can be rather misleading sometimes
gelinrefira 1 week ago
Gasoline stores something close to 44 MJ/kg. A typical ICE is around 30% efficient. Lithium-polymer batteries store around 4 MJ/kg, but a typical electric motor can exceed 90% efficiency. So it's 12 MJ/kg for electric, 44 MJ/kg for gasoline, which is still quite far off.
tomsixsix 1 week ago
@tomsixsix
Sometimes I think Michio Kaku is an idiot...
CBlargh 2 days ago
Again, I find myself questioning his rationale. Gasoline is efficient because it is refined. And transported. And the workers have to be supported by products, transport, and the use of enormous amounts of fossil fuels in order to... produce more fossil fuels. Even if you break down only the amount of energy directly put into producing gasoline, you see that it is not "very efficient". However, I do not think that greed is the only factor that has kept alternatives from succeeding.
benskin79 1 week ago
Only about 35% of the chemical energy in gasoline is converted into kinetic energy.. Not efficient at all in my opinion. Batteries may be able to STORE less energy, but less energy is lost. If they can develop batteries with larger capacities then they may well replace fossil fuels entirely.

When you think about it, gasoline is a type of "supercapacitor", as energy is stored in the electric fields in the chemical bonds. It seems that with these new-fangle "nano capacitors" we're just going in circles. Has everyone forgotten about fuel cells? @james7694 Hybrid are the worst choice. - You need a big battery, 2 enginees and a normal motor. - The additional weight from all that stuff makes the car need more energy to drive a distance then a car with say, only a gas engine. - If you want to save the world, buy a small car with a small engine, like a VW polo.
Hybrids also got way more stuff/electronics in them, which increase the chanse of something to break, which increase the chanse that you need to fix your car.

We need to get used to the fact that gasoline is not efficient. What is efficient is the volume / size relationship between the energy stored per cubic volume, compared to the volume extractable on demand. Work into the fact the cost in environment, human life, human potential, and just sheer cost to deliver that "gallon of gas", and the scales tip a bit more towards the battery. ... cont ....

stuffofdream 2 weeks ago
@stuffofdream Petroleum is a finite resource, but it is ultimately just hydrocarbon chains. Photocatalysis can be used to reduce CO2 to medium/long chain hydrocarbons and aromatics. The problem with photocatalysis is that catalysts are expensive (Pt, Rh, Ru, etc.) and the process has low yields. Microorganisms can be genetically modified to produce n-butanol and other next-generation biofuels with comparable thermodynamic properties to gasoline.
MetalMilitia5488 2 weeks ago
If people bought gas like bottled water - picking it up a gallon at a time - they might get the picture: all that mass is going into the atmosphere. Yes, we the people of the Earth are affecting the chemistry of the air - the narrow lens of atmosphere is only about 62 miles thick/wide/high. Battery technology is the future only when coupled with wind, solar, and ocean current possibilities. We can't wait for fusion (which will be dangerous - all concentrated power is dangerous).

If you think about it. Gasoline, any very "explosive" substance is a form of batterey. Energy stored in Moleclues. When the heat is right it combines with air and that chemical reaction realeases energy. We then use that energy to power a motor -->hense physical energy.

Vatoaztecas 2 weeks ago
@WerewolfSlayer91 There is no "free energy". No reproducible experiment in the history of science has discovered any way to get out of a system more energy than was initially present or which was entering the system. Likewise, entropy is constantly increasing in a given closed system. These two points are so fundamental that they are the basis for the common consensus in astrophysics about the way in which the universe will "end". Or better put, its final (and indefinite) state
Fwright88 1 week ago
(responses out of order) In virtually all cases where a system is moving away from stability, the results are either a return to stability (which would not reflect unlimited energy), or an event such as consumption of the reagents in a chain reaction or death in the case of disease. The only exception is the constant expansion of the universe at increasing speed. But to explain this we have the concept of dark energy, which is not usable by us and was unknown to Tesla.
Fwright88 1 week ago
@WerewolfSlayer91 Thinking logically about this, in nature, things tend toward stability. Any time a system is moving away from stability, the tendency is for that system's rate of change to be constantly increasing. Such events occur in circumstances like chemical chain reactions, or disease conditions in homeostatic organisms.

@WerewolfSlayer91 but remember if energy would become free for everyone , and it's not EXTREMLY cheap to make it , the system would collapse becouse you have not enought money to keep the electric power plant alive
Koroistro 1 week ago
@Koroistro It is not cheap to make ofc. And people can steal the power from the air. Thats why Nikola was shut down. Nikolai's funder couldn't see how he could make money from it and at the time it seemed like magic. The idea that you could tap into a powergrid from the air seemed impossible. To fund this you could have a monthly fee from everybody to fund the power being distributed. Or you could have the same powercounters we have today.
WerewolfSlayer91 4 days ago
@WerewolfSlayer91 Even though the disepaite of voltage would be the Radius squared from the source (R^2) . Raduis= R . This would be much loss, but then again we are talking about millions of voltage.
WerewolfSlayer91 4 days ago
@WerewolfSlayer91 Nah , if you focus the signal in a determined zone , in a protected frequency (maybe not a fixed one and not only one frequency) you could gain on the fact that you have a dispersion way lower that actualy transport way.
Instead MANY wires city to city you can just build X receivers and X senders on radiowawe and go ;D (but yeah stealing it would be really easyer)
Koroistro 3 days ago
@Koroistro You cannot protect a frequency like that. It is energy in the air, and aslong as you got an atenna You could proably restrict mostly the power being transmitted to your country if you had an atenna array point it at atmosphere with a certain frequency and get it to reflect of a layer of the atmosthere, most likely the ionosphere.
