  • why do I not remember these cinematics...

  • Hey guys, i made a steam group dedicated for Planescape PC gamers. We have a weekly Planescape chat. Just search "PLPCG"in steam, and join :).

  • Who made the music to this trailer..??? I have not found it on the soundtrack and im thinking maybe its lustmord before he got switched for morgan??

  • @Stiernsoldat The music in this trailer is by Lustmord, a dark ambient composer from the 80's. His soundtrack was dropped shortly before release because they ended up not liking it. It's a shame if you ask me.

  • Bioware really should've picked up the rights to continue this beautiful saga... A planescape torment 2 wouldve been awesome. We didn't even get to see much of the Planes yet!!!

  • @CorRomeister

Bioware had nothing to do with Planescape. And to be honest, if i look at DA2 I'd be glad if they left that licence alone.

Aiming for the CoD/Farmville customer base Bioware neither has the talent nor the balls to make such a game.

Yes, they "made" the Baldurs Gate series. But that was 10 years ago and they got a lot of help from Black Isle back then.

And those (BI) where the guys who made this game.

And now guess where all the good influence for the BG series came from.

  • @13x1x20 In that case I wish interplay axed blizzard instead of black isle...

And DA2 isn't that bad : ) Just be gratetful that they are trying new ideas with such games

  • @CorRomeister

    Well...

In my opinion streamlining is nothing really new.

  • @13x1x20 You dont know how much BI was in BG series, they may just make an engine. But what you like in Baldurs Gate is engine, graphics, or the story line and the way it unravels ? Thats what BW is great in and thats what RPGs are about. If not Black Isle, they might have hired someone else...

  • @Anaztazioch

The engine was made by BW.

But apart from that: I wish BW still made such good stories. But as I said before: They probably lack the balls to get into some more serious and complex storywriting (which is fun - because i only mean that in relation to BG2.. which is still a fantasy story)

  • @13x1x20 True that, but... its what people want. Hack&slash was always more popular than imagination roleplay (D&D and Warhammer 40k vs Warhammer) so Diablo got incredible sales. Then Fallout game come up and hack&slash people got a taste of "real" RPG, and with BG being adverted as D&D it had autiance anticipating it. Same with BG2. But now with consoles and "lack of time" plus majority of gamers are restless 14 year olds... games must be fast. This more killing less thinking eg. DA2 and Halo

  • @Anaztazioch Thats not true. People still prefer strategy. DA 1 outsold DA 2 almost 2 to 1 and Pokemon is the best selling RPG. People just dont like single player stat based combat like Morrowind and even that can sell if it gets everything else right.

  • @CorRomeister

They also made the original Fallout series and spawned Troika (Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines; Arcanum) and Obsidian (NWN2, Kotor2, Fallout: New Vegas).

I think Bioware gains far too much laurels for stuff they barely did alone.

  • Well it is 11 years old But this still is THE BEST RPG game ever made. i needed to finish it 4 times to get WTF is going on. But it was worth it The story in the game i just dont know how to describe how it amazing is. 1 stat can change the whole game and the endings WOW just WOW. But those who dont like to read this is not a game for them but that is what makes this game unique. I spent more tima talking than fighting, and it wasnt even 1 minute booring. Simply AMAZING game.

  • Sounds like Chinese Kung-fu stuff. The music.

  • those graphics are really bad

  • @ultraciggarette IT'S 11 FUCKING YEARS OLD

  • @JackOFBlades111 Even though I always disliked the cgi part of the game (Annah looking like another whore with big boobs, etc.).

  • @ultraciggarette In 11 years Skyrim will look like shit also.

  • The Planes are a goldmine... Why hasn't this setting been used more than once?

  • @Iconoclast12100 Because it's too much cerebral and the majority of gamers want things dumb and easy (i.e. "streamlined").

  • God damn, this game owns! I picked it up in 2000, for 10bucks in the bargain bin. Blew my mind!

  • My favorite game of all time - also the best cRPG ever made.

  • for me, up until today.. this is the best video game trailer ever

i STILL remember the first time i saw it, the emotions and mystery it left... omg

  • I was feeling nostalgic about this game and decided to search youtube for some videos and found myself ended up here : )

This is undoubtedly, the best story telling ever in gaming history. Combined with such haunting and beautiful sound tracks. Such deep and engaging characters with unique and interesting worlds.

Such a masterpiece, however, did not get the attention it deserved...

  • This story is even more epic than biblical shit...

  • i want a damn remake. same scripts with updated graphics

  • I fucking want that song. :|

  • Best game I've ever played. Cherish it like a great book.

  • It can be damn near impossible to find everything in this game without a guide. Incredible game either way..

  • I hope this wasn't the only ad P:T had because I really couldn't tell what was going on. The maker of the ad could have atleast given some narrative to the scenes like other unnarrated trailers (case in point: Bioshock: Infinite) rather than those random (perhaps not in hindsight) scenes of monsters and having a blue corpse starring at you and all. Based on this commercial I'd say bad marketing was the culprit for the underwhelming sales.

  • this is pure awesome game ...

  • One of the best game ever made and one of the best game I had that privilege to play :) In my humble opinion, this game is piece of art..

  • This really was an outstanding game!

  • Ahh, I like Vhailor in this trailer, in the end of the game he was one of the toughest enemys to beat (prob cuz I was a mage, the dude was immune to almost everything I threw at him).

One thing that puzzles me however, is that there's alot of mentioning (and art) of the Lady of Pain, but she didin't really played any segnificant role in the game.

  • @Tezak Try getting yourself Mazed....

  • The greatest story ever told. Epic beyond words..

    Bring back Planescape!!

  • @Iconoclast12100 Technically, the setting's not gone. Hell, as of 3.5, it's been canonized right into the Core; you'll find Sigil mentioned in the 3.5 DM guide and VERY thoroughly elaborated upon in the 4E DMG2. The Manual of the Planes for both editions gives even more info about the whole idea of a vast multiverse. Planescape's not gone. It's been integrated directly into everything else.

  • The only thing that bothers me is that in this trailer there are shown quite a few cutscenes which were not in the game...how come ?

  • @Szederp This trailer is from 1997, two years before the game was released.

  • The best game in the history of mankind of all dimensions, Period.

  • I would put this game in my top 5...it deserves it. It's far from flawless however. There are tons of micro bugs littered throughout the game, some of which can prevent you from finishing certain quests or even the game itself. This engine has issues with modern gfx cards and operating systems too. All these problems aside, this is probably the best story ever told and it proves that if you have an incredible story in your game, it can outshine everything else.

  • Someone asked about the track used in this trailer. The track is - if I have the right information - made by an artist named Lustmord, but it's no longer available anywhere. However, I was able to rip it into an mp3. Here you go:

    dy/yxv

(Can't post whole url - place first . and then fi after dy.)

  • If the link still doesn't work, add h t t p colon slash slash in front of it. Not w_w_w, just h_t_t_p.

  • This game has the greatest story ever told IMO. It's up there with some of the greatest literature in human history...and for a video game...that's saying something. Whoever wrote this stuff is a genius and needs to be writing more storylines for games :)

  • Loved this game. I Got to the Pillar of Skulls and then my PC died, lost all my data. Worth playing through again to get to the end?

  • Definitely. The transcendent one said "I am the light in the darkness of this fortress"....Well I say this game is still the light in the darkness of the gaming world to me. I've yet to see one game with as rich of a story...maybe some of the final fantasy games get close.

  • @deviant526 Definitely worth it.....there are so much to see after the Pillar..

  • Does anyone have any idea how i can get the extra dialogue in the game?

  • the graphics might suck comparing to, say fable... but they are so much more realistic... anyway, who cares about that, when the game is SO F-ING AWSOME!!!

  • you're an idiot

  • The art and animation were really good in this game. I remember when I played it first. I was stunned. I was expecting something more like Baldur's Gate, but it was really the next level, although it might seem otherwise to those who haven't played it. Just another thing that makes me miss the passed decade. That and cartoon network's golden age of shows.

  • Actually the cover is what first made me interested in this game. The radical contrast between blue and yellow, the fact that the face on the cover looked nothing like a traditional RPG/Adventure hero, the detailed art, everything is so radically diffrent than conventional game art that it made me stop and check it out.

  • @TriasTheBetrayer

The boxart is great. Fits the gamer well, IMO. It's just... different. Abstract, kinda.

  • actually I have this box in the most prominent position on my shelf because of this perfect box art. its because its so different that it really got me.

  • Totally agree. I already knew and loved the Planescape setting when the game was released, and the cover art *still* made me hesitate for a long while before buying it.

Whoever designed it deserves to be mazed.

  • Look at my playlist, i uploaded the song from lustmord with some parts of this great trailer :)

I asked b.lustmord in his forum for this special soundtrack, but it looks bad :(

    Sorry for my bad english

  • even after all these years...the trailer to this STILL leaves me shaken

  • Maybe because it's TEN years old?

  • well you could, like... google a little before you ask stupid questions :D

  • are you severely retarded?

  • @Akezater Wikipedia. Where EVERYONE goes when they want to know about ANYTHING.

  • Now guys, Im a big fan of this game (finished it 3 times), find it the best crpg Ive ever played, and quite enjoy the music of this trailer, but I dont consider this a good trailer, and if I knew nothing about the game I wouldnt desire to play the game based just on this trailer. In fact, it sucks quite a bit compared to how awesome is the game.

Too bad this game didnt make as much sucess as Baldurs Gate, IMHO it is even better and one of the best games ever done. Its a masterpiece.

  • Well, the whole theme of the game is kinda abstract and divorced from reality. I think this is one reason why the game didn't become a success. That, and the bleak view on human nature.

  • Never played the game, (really want to though) I think the Trailer rocks without a narrator.

  • One thing I would've loved to see in this trailer...or rather heard...would've been somebody like Tony Jay say the arc words - "What can change the nature of a man?" - at the end.

    Just imagine it.

  • That there is no narrator is actually one of the things that I like best about the trailer. But maybe it's because I already played the game and know how bloody brilliant it is that I find this trailer so wonderfully goosebumpy...

  • This game sold poorly because there are to many people such as yourself who judge games by their trailers. Don't even dare say something bad about this or as a matter of fact any game if you've never played them.

  • this trailer make me the creeps when i was 13 in 1999

  • i love this game it has the BEST STORY in all games i just ended playing it fourth time just a 3 minets ago i love it i wish they make second part of game

  • wow u are peace of shit not trailler and game is best game ever

  • the coolest thing about this trailer is the music.. its just so fitting to Sigil

  • I agree. I just wish i could find an MP3 of it.

  • The whole soundtrack of P:T is avaiable on the net. Try these keywords: "Fhjull Theme".

  • "Fhjull Theme" is not it.

Unfortunately I don't think that the P:T soundtrack contains contains the piece of music found in this trailer.

I appreciate the thought though. (Hopefully I will find it one day)

  • Yes, but it is a sure way to find the page what contains all the 30+ tracks the P:T album contains. I could give a direct link if YouTube wouldn't filter it out.

Maybe you should check the album, and see if it is on it. The given title will give a result around 30, so you shouldn't have problem finding what I'm talking about.

Anyway it is better then nothing, no?

Also you coud try to record the music here as it is played by the soundcard of the computer.

  • I've read about it somewhere. The music was created by Lustmord, a dark ambient musician. If my memory does not fail me, just before the release he was told that his music won't be used in the game anyway (although it had already been used in the trailer). He used some of the samples from this theme is his instrumental Eliminating Angel. I am afraid the rest is lost now. Great pity, this is a great piece of music. And I think gagn is right, I've seen the original score somewhere too.

  • What a wonderful trailer... I've known about this game so long, but this trailer makes it even more desirable to play. So much dark imagination...

  • Also, I would really like to find this music... It's not on the soundtrack, methinks.

  • One of the best stories I've ever experienced, just finished it for the first time today. =O

Very deep story... A little on the sad side, but that is the nature of Torment.

  • The best rpg of all time.

  • In 20 years they'll be 2 games at least that will never be copied again, in my book: Planescape Torment and GTA: San Andreas. Games are getting smaller and simpler, and these are big and deep.

  • I have to get my own copy of this game one day.

This might be an odd request but does anyone know the name of the music that plays in this trailer or the name of the person who composed it.

  • I don't know if the song is on the OST, but the guy in charge with the game's music was the genius Mark Morgan.

  • Thanks for the info. I haven't found it yet but I'm still searching (I don't think it's in the OST). Someone also told me about a Composer named Lustmord (He was the original going to do the soundtrack but they chose Mark Morgan instead)

If I find the name I will post it.

  • Could somebody help me here? I recently finished Torment, but there are parts in this trailer I have never seen (I mean cinematics)0:41 (modron figure) 0:49 (skeleton)0:58 (A Mercykiller?) 1:06 (somekind of great cinematics) Did I somehow miss them, or they are not part of the game? Thanks in advance!

  • i think its first p:t trailer and some parts didnt use in final game

  • The modron is a party member you can get through a Modron Cube purchased in Clerks Ward - the same one you can use to taunt Morte with.

  • I've noticed the same thing. In fact, most of the cinematics seen in the trailer are not in the game... or at least not the one I got...

I've been trying to find out if there is a 'more complete' version somewhere for a long time...

  • If you ever come across a "fuller" version, please don't forget me :)

  • They're all in the game.

  • the whole point of the game was to break the cycle and make amends or commit even more atrocities...

A sequel would be stupid in the context of the PST setting.

  • lol, that's the same thing I think when somebody tells me he is going to start playing a game I love

  • i just found out of this game cuz u can buy some items from it on BG2, i really dont know how i never heard of it since i specially love this type of games, now i guess i'll just have to play it =)

  • Excellent game... like Vampire : Bloodlines

  • Best game ever made.

And a whole setting which just SCREAMS to be made into an MMORPG.

  • ..and NORDOM was so coll in this game. What I liked most about him is if he got damaged too greatly in one hit he would malfunction and turn on the group. It really suprised me the first time he did that, and I laughed and laughed as he attacked the party repeating the words "error, error, error"

  • I want a new Planescape game that is comparable or better than Torment (THE BEST RPG EVER!!), and I want Planescape to come back in table top form for 4.0 rules.

AND I WANT THEM NOW! ..LOL... Who is with me?!?!

  • making a game better than Torment is not possible, not anymore

  • I really hope you are not right..It would be nice too see another planescape game come out, and maybe turn it into an online community game where you can make and focus on a single character.

  • This isn't just a game. This is a legend:D

  • this is a really good game...I beat it, and trust me that f*#$%!@ take a loooong time.

  • This is similar to the trailer that came with Baldur's Gate (or was it Icewind Dale?) that was entirely CG cutscenes. They were so awesome that I'm still pretty annoyed that absolutely none of them were in the final game. Especially that shot of the skeleton getting zapped and the soehmins running through the desert.

  • Yeah, this video does use a lot of material from the trailer that comes on the BG CD. I remember never getting around to installing Planescape until recently, but I'm really glad I did.

  • I tried to order it in today but they have discontinued it :(

    Excellent video.

  • maybe you can try getting it off ebay or amazon

  • Why many video clips from the trailer are not present in the game? If Bioware made them, why they deleted them from final version of the game?

  • I remember seeing my father play this game back nearly a decade ago. Now, the torch has been passsed, and now I'm starting to play the game!

  • Aww, man now I think I have to go play it again.

Dang that game is so awesome!

  • The PERFECT game, quite literally, and I beat it :D

    WE WANT TORMENT 2!!!

  • Actually, there is a fan made sequel. Look for the "Nature of a man" module for Neverwinter Nights and the preceding one. I forgot it's name...but I have heard that they are very good continuations of the Torment storyline.

  • Lustmord (Brian Williams) did the soundtrack for this trailer. He did a full soundtrack for the game that was never used.

  • BTW, if you type "lustmord" into the youtube search you will find some videos. Metavoid is the CD of his that is most similar to this soundtrack.

  • Quite simply the great RPG of all time. Never equalled.

  • What's the name of this soundtrack?

  • man, black isle made the coolest rpgs ! thank god i played the game before i watched the trailer, cause a trailer like this makes me not wanna play the game !anyway i still think fallout serie IS the best RPG ever !

  • Does anyone have any idea who the guy is at 01:25? Was he a character that never made it into the game? He looks awesome.

  • That is vhailor he is in the game.

  • No, no. The guy just before Vhailor. He causes those structures to shoot up from the ground.

Vhailor is awesome as well, of course!

  • Best. Game. Ever. Made.

  • Agree!

  • I wish my pc would run it. I never thought I would say this but I wish my pc was older.

  • i play it on my machine as we speak...I have xp though and my comp is somehwat oldder

  • I like the ALIEN styled text appearing.

  • but a lot of scene of this trailer are not in the game :\...

maybe this is the beginning of the production

  • Wow... I want those FMVs.

I always thought it would be cool to see a post-game vid of the Nameless One using his accumulated powers to kick some ass in the Blood War.

  • iwant a continuation... this game is awesome.

  • i love this game but i don't think i've ever actually finished it

  • It's the best stoy in a game I've ever seen.

(After years of playing again and again, I always stuck at one place...)

  • What place are you stuck at?

I'm an avid player of the game, perhaps i can offer some spoiler-free advice?

  • thanks I'll tell you when I know the place again

  • Thanks! I bought the CD, right now i´m listening to it :) but the original song is not on the cd.

I registered in Lustmord´s forum, but it looks bad :(

  • Marukka, elements from this song were reworked into "The Eliminating Angel".

  • Yes, i know :) I love this song, it is really an awesome song. One of my favorites :)

  • Somebody knows where i can find the Song from the Trailer?

    Soo many wonderful memories ...

  • This is Lustmord's original game music. Some parts of it can be heard on his album Metavoid

  • I wish I played this game back in the day when I was doing the Baldur Gate games. It seems to have some interesting similarities to Buddhism with the use of reincarnation and karma by how you decide your actions. Also the strong focus on suffering, which relates to Buddhism's four noble truths. Very philosophical.

  • Why does the music sound like a medieval imperial Chinese army?

  • Magnifique jeu, magnifique musique! Inoubliable!

  • not even the moving corps with the key at the vey beginning, or the mummis in the hounted gravyard building??

  • I've yet to play Torment. There's a server on NWN I go on which is set in Sigil and can allow you to travel through planes.

    Looks like a great game

  • The best storyline... no comments.

  • One of the best Gamestories ever!

  • That is true!

  • wasn't this the trailer on Baldurs Gate???

  • yes it was.

  • Torment is the best game ever made, but trailer's like this explain why the markeing failed. :P

  • Well, i like this one more than the other one.

But i agree, Torment trailers suck

  • I liked the trailer. Maybe instead of a sequal though a remake would be good. All the same elements of the original just a graphics boost, (or at least make it compatible on newer systems)

  • i miss this game...played it for hours in the middle of the night...left me sleepy everyday during highschool...

  • I do not know... =(

  • One of the best RPGs ever created.

  • looks interesting since im such a nerd but damn was that trailer confusing and psychadelic
