all this means is people cant connect to your computer through most ports. in order to be completely invisible you need an ip blocker or a proxy. with the above setup, anyone including your ISP will be able to see anywhere you go.
Hey thanks for the vid. I just got my iMac last week and I am still learning new things about it. That's cool that you can hide your mac from the outside world, I am glad I chose a Mac. Again, thanks.
It will not affect any process or performance. You can enable it on any Mac. On Macs running pre-Leopard, the settings are in your 'Sharing' control panel.
I fuckin adore the way you move your cursor to the speed of the music ! :D It's like if the cursor was sad and walking back home on a rainy day.

Using stealth mode made my mac crash for the first time ever. Does using file sharing programs mess it up? that kinda takes away the point for me :P

Not the best solution if you want to network share...

There's a stealth mode on the Apple router, I've got for my Mac-Book. That's running Tiger not Leopard.

Yah, but a lot of people won't understand what that means. Also I love the song.

You won't be "invisible" that's just bullshit. It just means people cant connect to your ports.

Well, if that can't see your ports, that makes them invisible. :P

No, you are still sending your IP address along with all outgoing communication.
To be invisible, one needs to connect through a 'proxy' server.

In any other system (Windows etc.) you can do the same thing. Just change the firewall settings to close ports for incoming communication.

When you enable this will it affect any others process' on your Mac? And what kind of Macs can you use this on? (iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro?)

ok..so whats the point of this?

Security. Hackers running port scanners will not see your Mac.

What is the downside of using stealth mode?
In other words why is it not just permanently turned on?
billdakelski 2 years ago
Stealth mode blocks more ports. You could run into problems file sharing or web serving.
