all this means is people cant connect to your computer through most ports. in order to be completely invisible you need an ip blocker or a proxy. with the above setup, anyone including your ISP will be able to see anywhere you go.

No, you are still sending your IP address along with all outgoing communication.

To be invisible, one needs to connect through a 'proxy' server.

In any other system (Windows etc.) you can do the same thing. Just change the firewall settings to close ports for incoming communication.

It will not affect any process or performance. You can enable it on any Mac. On Macs running pre-Leopard, the settings are in your 'Sharing' control panel.
