I have to watch this video at least once a day. Michael, is always doing something. It always gives a laugh, but most of all someday we will fly away.
Well, thank God for Stewart Varnado and the Dixie Echoes and their commitment to the classic sound of four voices and a piano! With any luck, all of Southern Gospel will eventually discover that the music just sounds better without all of those annoying background tracks and stacked vocals. If you noticed, Michael Booth even commented that singing this way is "fun". Well, then he should do more of it! Thanks for posting!
I think you would find that most groups would prefer live musicians to tracks. Using soundtracks is mainly a financial decision. S. G. groups just cannot command the fees that would allow them to carry musicians. I know, I've been there.
I certainly agree with the financial considerations you raise. My point is, the Southern Gospel sound for decades consisted of four voices and a pianist. If that's all a group can afford, that's enough. Indeed, this video proves that the Booth Brothers sound fantastic, actually better, without the background tracks. Further ,if concert goers want to listen to recordings they can stay at home. Live performances should be, well, LIVE. Anything else is no more tasteful than a karaoke bar.
