  • Hey! I got a question too. Those apples, you dried them yourself right? How did you get them crispy? I can hear them crunch when you put them in the bag. Only way I can get them crispy is to buy them from the LDS Cannery. With 2 trees in my yard I would love to get them crispy.

  • Great question!

I use a hand held slicer and slice them paper thin. That way they get dried fast AND crisp up.

You know the kind of slicer that you slide it over the blade? A cheapo one from like dollar tree or walmart or better yet, a yard sale...(o:

  • I have one of those. I'll have to give that a try this year.

  • @thewheatguy or if you want to look em online search for a mandolin slicer =)

  • @Oreocremerocks - ah yes - a NAME for the slicer...now isn't THAT a brilliant thought!

    Brain blip!

Happens to me all the time!

  • Heehee I used to make these with my son. He was so excited to eat the packets that he made. Makes for a great project for the kids to work with you.

  • Good point!

Make a team effort of making up the packets and the time goes quicker + the enjoyment factor goes up for kids. They love to help!

    Thanks for the reminder!

Glad you liked this! Hope you use it!

  • Approximately how much water do you add to each pack?

  • Sorry!

Just added that info to the 'more info' link:

Usually approx. 1/2 C boiling water.

Some like is more thick than others so the water amount is approximate. We eye-ball it until it covers the grains and stir.
