@cogenerate That's fine if you've got nothing better to do than play games. As a laptop for working though, this is a reliable model. I've had mine for two years. I've used it for graphic design, media production - and occasionally I play some fairly modern games. There's nothing wrong with this weak-ass laptop so long as it serves it's purpose.

Toshiba is a piece of crap. I was sold this Toshiba Satellite L350 by Staples Business Depot.Within a few days of purchase there was a large piece of glue between the display screen and the clear plastic cover.This machine is not a year old:there are now 6 pieces of glue between the display and the clear plastic cover.I called Toshiba customer service and was cut off 4 times.These companies are criminals selling crap for profit margin.The best we can do is not buy from Toshiba or its associates.

got one of these and its great in both multimedia and game experiences never failed me, heat is minimum even while playing games maxed out, no noisy fan, and with echo it wont eat "much" energy if u want, just stick to the oficial toshiba drivers and updates they release and ur toshiba will allways be rdy to kick some ass ( unless the user makes problems happen and blames toshiba :\ )

You buy this thing, you will regret it. Toshiba laptops like the X305 Qosmio and Satellite A500 black out. The more you try and fix it, the worse it becomes. The heat in these two laptops, are horrible! The Qosmio being the worst. If not yet, but soon you will notice the laptop will start to black out. If you bought these two laptops, return them and AVOID, I repeat, AVOID TOSHIBA!

serious issues with the graphics card. The monitor goes black for no reason and the update of the drivers does nothing at all. Think it twice if you consider buying it. This happened to me just two weeks after buying it. Thats also the reason why toshiba reduced the price about 300euro in the greek market!!

Toshiba, Asus and Lenovo (IBM) are the only 3 that build really solid laptops anymore (esspecially lenovo, those mofos have a really heafty metal frame) so really, if you want a laptop, go for a brand with fantastic build quality. I got a top of the line a500 the other day, plays crysis pretty well on highish settings and its built like the proverbial brick shithouse, despite being pretty light.

It depends on what you want. I have an A505 (this series) and I like it for the most part.

comparing the dv and the A500... the dv has a great webcam, and the A500 has a pathetic webcam... simply pathetic. it is my biggest complaint. HP makes an outstanding webcam on all of their machines.

But if you won't be doing a LOT of video conferencing or making videos for youtube... the A500 is GREAT because of their AMAZINGLY powerful speakers... very crisp sounding, more so than HP's dv.

There are basically no laptops available that will let you change the graphics card. They are usually integrated or made for that laptop only.

Toshiba Satellite A500-17X's come with Nvidia GT 230M's. That will play Sims 3 fine. Just don't try upgrading your graphics card.

most laptops like this one have HDMI output to output the laptop screen to a HD tv or projector.

they can range from $20 to $100 but for something basic that gets the job done id say about $20.

if your going to be playing through a tv but have it hooked up to the laptop to record gameplay your going to need a few cheap cables.

I love it. In my opinion new Toshiba design is simply fabulous and will be interesting for old and young generation. I have Satellite A300 but I believe I will buy this new one, maybe Satellite P300 with illuminated keyboard.

Its called the Toshiba Satellite A505-S6970. It can be found on Amazon for $817.99. The pictures presented by Amazon show the laptop with a CD/DVD "Slot". I should be receiving mine in the mail either today or tomorrow, so I'm not entirely sure if I'll get the "Slot". I think it's your best bet though. Good Luck! I know I can't wait for mine!

Shit that looks good I've had a Toshiba M105 laptop for 4 years now and no problems what so ever but still I want to get another one. This is the one I want but I want it with Windows 7 guess I will have to wait till new years few months after the release when all the bugs are fixed.
