its a TRAUMA plate people...without it the vest will still stop the round, what the plate does is take the impact force out of stopping your heart. hence the size and location of the plate.
To everybody who is complaining about the size of the plate.... It's only a demostration piece! This kind of stuff is expensive to manufacture, so why ruin a whole vest of it for demonstrations. It's pretty damn obvious that a single 5x10 plate wouldn't protect you, these people are not idoits.
"Liquid Armor" is better and can buy all the chemicals you need off of Ebay. Soft Kevlar into hard armor for dirt cheap compaired too the price of plates.
Soaking your kevlar in shear thickening fluids is a revolution in armor.
I know it's probably been said a million times but this thing is like... what? A 5x10 inch plate? The only thing this protects is your heart, and only from 1 angle.
the thing only covers the middle of your chest it wouldnt even cover your all of your lungs, if you want to buy trauma plates or seramic body armor search it on google there are lots of manufacturers but dont get your hopes up they will sometimes sell them to civilians but normally you have to have some millitary or police status
@labartic cool i actually found that out a while ago but im not going to go and spend 300 dollars on some soft armor(behind the hard plate) and a 650-1200 dollar ceramic plate just cause. maybe if i was going into combat i would.
@zack9912000 You own a Pinnacle Vest? Riggght. I guess Money is no object to you then at just over $5000 for the basic SOV 2000 without the Pinnacle Trauma Insert or the neck yoke. Unless you have the SOV 3000 for almost $6000! I did testing and evaluation for Pinnacle I know what I'm talking about.
Even if you do own a set of Pinnacle, you're basically stuck with it. Their lifetime guarantee is basically worthless now because the company license was revoked and they out of business.
Should have used FMJ rounds instead, and I think a light alloy metal plate will help distribute the energy to the body surface so trauma can be minimal.
Great thing with GLOCKS however is you can have all 5 calibers 9mm, 40SW, 357SIG, .45ACP, & 10mm with only 2 guns. I have had zero failures of any kind with these caliber conversions. However for 9mm out of a G31 must change extractor/ejector/mag for 100% reliability - same goes for from .45 - 10mm. Lots of fun and its great to know you can shoot most any caliber around. Cost me about $1150-1200 total. IMHO GLOCKS rule due to their simplicity. You can change calibers or any part in seconds.
This body armor is cool but I need help finding videos of carbon steel plates and titanium plates for car armor. I can't find one video with someone shooting at heavy metal plates.
it's a TRUMA PLATE" that is extra the protection is inside the vest that lil pouch is too add a TRUMA PLATE" and usually trama plates is in the back of the vest and trama protection
The ST has an NIJ rating for 357 sig. And the 5.7 round (the hollowpoint and V-max) are boths stopped by 3a panels. The ST is a 3a stand alone and stops other "special threats" with a 3a panel behind it.
You do know that you can't sell pistol rounds that pierce 3a soft armor in the US do you?? Thats why the SS190 (5.7) round is not for sale.
Apparently you "now" hype, not "the results".
P.S. Stop hyping calibers just becuase you like them, its just stupid. Really clear by the "hahah".
Wow!...so the .357 SIG actually penetrated the ST (at 4:17)??? Impressive! I just passed on a good deal for a .357 SIG mainly because of my hatred for really snappy recoil, but I may just have to get one now. Would be great against hard targets. If only XD would make a sub-compact .357 SIG. I hate Glocks and am Not a Sig Sauer Fan. Anyway, awesome video and neat product!
The .357sig itself is known for its high velocity. Even with cheap ammo vs cheap ammo it`s still the one of the best penetrating rounds. The great thing is hollow points in sig won`t over penatrate a human body just whats in front of it like a car door or such. Thats why the Secret Service use this caliber.
I also have a 45 and a 9mm but this is my favorite caliber. 45(Glock 21) for no armor, 9mm for size (pm9)
lets see how it handles fire from a Smith&Wesson 500 magnum now...?

So the fact that Safariland lost the NYPD contract to an upstart company shouldn't affect your choice of ballistic vest companies?

It is funny how smaller and smaller they tend to make these plates...
I suppose you will draw a target and say hey shoot me only on the plate...:P

Put some real rounds into that plate. How about SS109 5.7x29, Tokarev 7.62x25?
9mm, 40, and 45 are all easily stopped by most any soft body armor.

If you ribs are broken in a gunfight youd better pray you have backup or you will likely be finished off soon after.
