Overtime now makes up more than 26 percent of firefighter paychecks and more than 12 percent of the Fire Authority's budget. Overtime pay has increased at twice the rate of base pay.
Overtime costs have been boosted by a series of annual pay raises. In 2007 and 2008, the raises were 3 percent. During that period, the agency added just 49 firefighters, a 6 percent increase. But its payroll swelled by 35 percent.
We love our public servants but at times we think:
@phnixlady are you talking crap about how much our fire fighters are making. you should be talking crap about how much our militarty are making. some of the guys are driving 80,000 dollars cars. how can they keep that on there pay. ever think of that. do you see fire fighters driving that type car i dont think so. i work for cal fire.
These folks should keep a tank of water for the purpose of heat reservoir, and fire prevention. They could pump water onto their roofs when the fires come through. Just think what they could do wth 500 to 2000 gals of fresh water. The fire would pass and they would still have their homes.
How is that fire today? Did they get it under control? Praying our asses off here for you there... Are you safe phnixlady? A big fat rain-cloud would sure help... can we order one of those please God?? ******* ~*~
One thing iv never understood, though im sure there was fires in the past occasionally but why over the last decade has it just become a seasonal issue (california fires) Im not positive but i dont remember in the history books massive fires every year on a mass scales...somethings up... thanks for the post P!
I know they have changed strategies, but need more info, they set backfires now to stop fires, and let them burn more. One thing we get so confused about, why not slam it with planes as soon as it is detected?
I didn't even know about the one here in Yucaipa until about 6 p.m. when someone called and asked about it and I stepped outside to look, then I had to go to the store around 8 - 8:30, and when coming home could see flames on the first ridge in two spots, one of which was further to the north and had gotten really low!
We can smell the smoke here in Vegas especially at night. Pray for all involved with trying to put it out. I didn't know you lived in CA..I thought you lived in AZ because of your name. Stay safe.
i knew theses fire fighters. i was fighting next to them day before this happen.

It sure sounds great. Why buy a 30K car, buy the tank and a cheap car, if you can? Just an idea.
