@TRANFUCKER great point cant argue cause its true but what if one has been playing for a few years and just sucks but wants to play and would never pretend to be a badass
Anyhow, seems like a cool idea if accompanied by proper teaching. How is the playability and tone? I haven't found a video where someone ACTUALLY plays the damn thing. xD
UNPLAYABLE OUT OF THE BOX. Laughable build quality. Expect to spend another $150 get the nut recut, the frets leveled, and a full setup done. It plays so horribly bad, you will be awestruck that they sell any of these things. Great idea, but a disastrous execution. Literally plays like a $50 guitar, find the worst guitar at GC, and I assure you it plays better than this.
@ToneKingGuitarMan, For putting soul into a musical peace, you first have to learn how to play the instrument. I think this product is a pretty cool idea for learning how to play guitar basics and some solo's you allways wanted te learn.
Especially for beginners this can be a very nice product I think.
This is a tool, it's the same thing as reading tab except you don't have to take your fingers or eyes off the fret board. You can slow the song down by a 50% or 25% making fast parts easer to learn. You can take that fast part and loop it (5 seconds at a time or whatever time you choose to loop). Learning by ear is very difficult, this allows you to hear and see the notes played. I see nothing wrong with fretlight as a learning tool. It does excellerate the learning process for guitar.
You sound like a sales rep. for this product. I am not downgrading the value of this thing as a learning aid.In the beginning, learning music by ear should be emphasized over reading or depending upon forms of physical musical notation, much like language acquisition, where a child learns to speak before learning to read. The digital world today is obsessed with "acceleration" of everything, from this approach, music with no heart n' soul is all you will ever "learn" to make.
@COSMICBUM Your statement would only be true if one were to wear earplugs while you do this accelerated learning program. Plus a lot of tab out there is bunk... even the "official" ones. I've got some "official" Mayer tab books that doesn't always put in the right notes. Yeah, I would know, I have perfect pitch. Don't bunk it 'till you try it ;)
@notSoFormal ya no shitz That what tabs are for. Wouldn't want it. If you cant get good with tabs then this ain't going to help. Guitar Pro much cheaper better learning device
@assymcgee1 i aint no beiber fan its just a retarded song that everyone learns to be cool... the fretlight is for beiber fans pick up a real guitar and not something that sucks in 2 areas.
doesn't make the song sound any less good i'm afraid, as for the fretlight, its good for newbie guitarists and some intermediate, way better then that piece of crap "You Rock Guitar" at the least
@LUCKas1212 Although what you said "sounds" good, it's not always true. I know a lot of "musicians" who have a bad ear. Are you a visual learner, an auditory learner, a kinesthetic learner or a combination of any of the two or three? I have perfect pitch that I had to learn and so I would agree with you but only if you had a great ear. I really believe ( I've only been playing guitar for 25 years) that a program like the Fretlight would've taken years off of my learning curve.
@ToneKingGuitarMan well not trying to discredit you but to be honest this concept is stupid and i believe it will have a ton of "guitarhero" players/kids picking it up learnin their fav.songs and thats it.. i mean making music is about puttin your heart and soul and time into it.. thats the beauty of music... i CANT imagine anyone that uses this to learn having "soul" when playing guitar.. which to me is what its all about... however i have yet to see one of these ANYWHERE yet so i well lol
@dtguitarsolo the fretlight software has a whole beginner video section that shows the fingering on video while lighting up the frets
it really takes the frustration of learning by looking at screen then at guitar then at screen or book . once a person learns fingers 1, 2, 3, 4, and which works best for their hands the lit of frets will make learning songs and scales and chords much less frustrating since is all on the guitar instead of a poster or book page
this is going to ruin guitars and bass guitars forever-the reason i play is not to look at lights on the frets and then sooner or later fall off stage due to a seizure, by the way-eric johnson isnt all that great.
@ToxicityFilms first of all, you're a dipshit. they blatantly say that this is an instructional tool, not a stage instrument. and even if you did...you're implying that you're an epileptic that has seizures from flashes of light - which you probably shouldn't be on a stage for anyway.
on the latter dumb remark you made in your comment - eric johnson is considered to be one of the most innovative guitarists of the last 25 years, along with selling a platinum record. and you say he's not great.
@ToxicityFilms The light up frets are not intended to be used whie onstage, they are to aid in learning to take th place of a book or poster, you learn on the fretlight guitar then can play what you learned on any guitar or on the fretlight guitar without the lights goin
@ToxicityFilms It's made to practice dipshit. Actually think before you put your dam foot in your mouth. And you may not like Eric Johnson but the man is an amazing guitar player
@SidestreamThinker06 Well, not just for learning the guitar. A lot of us already play musical instruments/guitar, but for learning new songs or just for practice/fun.
And that's why your name is on the lips of millions of guitarists and music fans, JonDeth, cuz you don't play gaytar like that poseur Eric Johnson.
I can't call what you do music, though. Technically gifted masturbation, but not music - It bores after less than a minute, while Johnson is listenable for years. Understand the difference and you understand the purpose of music. You have a lot to learn.
@JonDeth If you can't appreciate what real musicians have done, then you have no right to claim that you play music at all.
Do not insult the instrument because you don't like the artist.
You have no right to call yourself a guitar player. There is no such thing as gaytar just because you don't like the music. If guitar is gay, then so are you, because you play one yourself.
If you can't appreciate the work of a true artist, then don't say anything and keep your ignorant remarks to yourself!
