UNPLAYABLE OUT OF THE BOX. Laughable build quality. Expect to spend another $150 get the nut recut, the frets leveled, and a full setup done. It plays so horribly bad, you will be awestruck that they sell any of these things. Great idea, but a disastrous execution. Literally plays like a $50 guitar, find the worst guitar at GC, and I assure you it plays better than this.

@ToneKingGuitarMan, For putting soul into a musical peace, you first have to learn how to play the instrument. I think this product is a pretty cool idea for learning how to play guitar basics and some solo's you allways wanted te learn.

Especially for beginners this can be a very nice product I think.

This is a tool, it's the same thing as reading tab except you don't have to take your fingers or eyes off the fret board. You can slow the song down by a 50% or 25% making fast parts easer to learn. You can take that fast part and loop it (5 seconds at a time or whatever time you choose to loop). Learning by ear is very difficult, this allows you to hear and see the notes played. I see nothing wrong with fretlight as a learning tool. It does excellerate the learning process for guitar.

I am not downgrading the value of this thing as a learning aid.In the beginning, learning music by ear should be emphasized over reading or depending upon forms of physical musical notation,much like language acquisition, where a child learns to speak before learning to read. The digital world today is obsessed with "acceleration" of everything, from this approach,music with no heart n' soul is all you will ever "learn" to make.

@COSMICBUM Your statement would only be true if one were to wear earplugs while you do this accelerated learning program. Plus a lot of tab out there is bunk... even the "official" ones. I've got some "official" Mayer tab books that doesn't always put in the right notes. Yeah, I would know, I have perfect pitch. Don't bunk it 'till you try it ;)

@LUCKas1212 Although what you said "sounds" good, it's not always true. I know a lot of "musicians" who have a bad ear. Are you a visual learner, an auditory learner, a kinesthetic learner or a combination of any of the two or three? I have perfect pitch that I had to learn and so I would agree with you but only if you had a great ear. I really believe ( I've only been playing guitar for 25 years) that a program like the Fretlight would've taken years off of my learning curve.

This is a great tool, but you still need the help of humans, because the guitar will teach you which notes to play but it wont teach you fingerings.

@dtguitarsolo the fretlight software has a whole beginner video section that shows the fingering on video while lighting up the frets

it really takes the frustration of learning by looking at screen then at guitar then at screen or book . once a person learns fingers 1, 2, 3, 4, and which works best for their hands the lit of frets will make learning songs and scales and chords much less frustrating since is all on the guitar instead of a poster or book page
