Ever find out what the "technical hold" was for? There's a brand new one at my local dealer that I've been eying. Should I be concerned about this "hold"?
@RedlineMS501 So, what are you measuring then? You should be measuring engine horsepower. The way you measuring it seems to be hp at a certain road speed which seems pointless because the bikes have different gear ratios in the transmission and different sprockets(final drive). For this to have validity you should use engine horsepower which requires engine rpm, gear ratio, wheel speed, etc. in STP format. This dyno run proves nothing.
@custommotor we are measuring engine horsepower. The dyno can measure it without knowing the RPM or gear ratio because it's a calculation based on time, mass, speed change, top speed, and environmental variables. We've done hundreds of runs with and without the full electronic hookup and the results don't change. We have done some 2011 Kawi's since then with many more km's on them, and they made about the same HP - with full electronic hookup
@RedlineMS501 in the real, there is no equipment which can measure or calculate HP directly. because, for the equipment like a motor or such rotating machine, there is no directional force.in rotating machines, HP is a function of Torque. without torque, HP is meanless.
@RedlineMS501 while machine is running, the direction of force is also rotating by the rev of the machine. so, a dyno measures the amount of torque produced by the machine, and then it calculates the HP value according to the physical, mathematical and some cross functional equations. if you look carefully, all values expressing HP or torque are given with their rpm values.if you re interested, there is so much information on the internet.thanks..
@custommotor It doesnt need to know RPM, because BHP is defined as RPM * Torque. You can use bike RPM and torque or dyno RPM and torque. You dont lose any power in the transfer, so as long as the dyno know its own RPM and shaft torque, you have a correct measurement. That way, you dont have to exactly measure each bike, you only have to calibrate the dyno correctly once and it measures correctly for all bikes or cars you put on it.
@k0nn0r Yes, if you look at the science hp is the rate of work done! So its simply the rate at which the wheel is accelerated. aka Velocity multiplied by the Acceleration at that moment >.<! W = V.a²
you guys have to understand that one dynomometer to the next is always gonna be different. lots of factors that change hp output. the air temp during the s1000rr is higher but humidex is lower. aswell as elevation from this dyno location is not the same elevation that every dyno is at. their is also different styles of dynos aswell as different correction factors. so if you ever wanna see true increase numbers when doing mods you gotta be on the same dyno with the same atmospheric conditions.
love the 11 dash. wish it woulda been derestricted. sooooo tempted to trade in my sd990 on the zx10. i've had 2 other zx's, and both were great bikes... my sd only makes 113 with exhaust, map, n race gas :(~
There was no o2 sensor fitted in these runs it would taken 10 seconds to put one in and only then it would be a fair comparison, if running in mixtures are rich for the zx it's never going to make its proper power so why bother dynoing???????????
Oh and a very important factor to remember is not so much the outright power figure you make, but the time it takes to make that power.
@DefiantAML not far off, a friend of mine has one with only a full acropovic evo system and power commander 5 and thats making a true 197bhp at the back wheel. insane power for a road bike hey lol :P
I have an old CBR954 with maybe, on a good day, 135hp at the wheel. I rarely need all of the power it has. I'm not about to tell others what they do and do not need but at this level of output, it's just bragging rights.
fuck u all the 2011 zx1or is being restricted its on a break in period which limits the power due to a break in period. the bike only has 180 miles on it, the kawi is cameable of more hp and touque we all know it
@JeroenLondon dyno's vary from manufactureres and settings there is a smoothing factor that can be optimistic or pessimistic dependent on how the operator sets the machine up. Then you have air temp and density and hummidity to consider. Remember we don't race dyno's and its just a tuneing tool to give you the most power at that given moment
The pro's track tune to the given air at that moment. I was actually surprised by the numbers because my 14 has made 180
@JeroenLondon rode it today , fantastic weather in kc , yes its very torquey , will light the tires from near idle but its not as quick as the 1000rr is obviously its clocking way higher mph in the quarter. I have seen alot of 1/8th mile et's and I am surprised me et's are better though.
You know the Dyno runs are all well and good but they say nothing about how the bike will actually perform on the track. The zx10's SKTRC system is more evolved than the BMW's ABS system which allows the bike to actually transfer the power made to the ground much more efficiently. Also, I'm not sure where this was filmed but if it was filmed with a U.S. bike, you're getting the true potential out of the bike. To put it to a true test you should swap the U.S. ECU for the euro version.

@Grominey You sir are rather dumb. They even say in the description that they're doing BOTH bikes. 2010 AND 2011, learn to read. Kinda annoys me that the 2011 doesn't compare to the first gen, kawa even bragged about it "keeping up" or "beating" the BMW. The tach is cool looking though, I'll give them that.
@gazimgodx69 dont be mad because you have a kawaski, you can watch many tests on the 11 kaw. and 11 bmw and there all about the same numbers the bmw wins all of them.
regardless of the relatively low numbers shown here the bikes are all not significantly far apart.. I have seen vids of dyno runs for both 2011 ZX-10R and S1000RR making over the 180's rwhp. To me the dyno here is under rating these bikes. My brothers 2004 zx10r makes over 160rwhp, only mods a full exhaust system. Dyno runs don't mean anything as 9/10 riders will never get close to using the bikes full potential. Besides anyone can go fast in a straight line.. its everything else that matters!
@calaiscruiser once you get up to this calibre of bike, most riders wont use nearly all of the power, however consumers can be picky and if you show them that one bike performs slightly better than the other bike in its class, people are going to want the better one. I for one might still get the zx10r one day just because I love my 250r so much.
@Fiercefighter2 LOL hey if u love ur 250R that much ur gonna think God himself built the ZX10R when that day finally arrives when u buy urs! Even the difference between my 09 ZX6R & the S1000RR was mental! But seriously 2 everyone else, Dyno runs are kinda like drag racing, a few moments of glory then its over & forgotten. Huge HP figures on bikes mean jack unless ur pro's like Rossi, Pedrosa or Stoner. Unlike the rest 99.99% of us mere mortals. Its a bikes ability to corner that really matters!
@calaiscruiser Elevation makes a big difference! If you're at sea level expect allot more ponies the up in the alps (just an example, P.S. too lazy to find out where these guys are at) In there set conditions the S1kRR has more power, all they're trying to prove.
Granted it's not a dyno shootout, but if you want to see how a euro spec ZX10 does against the BMW search "Kawasaki ZX-10R takes on rivals" for a quick review by MCN.
@juicer404 LMAO, U have made my night with such comment, indeed...we got the shaft dry and NO LUBE on this one. Thank u EPA, u are truly amazing...and thank u KHI for not been on top of your game and NOT knowing your noise laws and regulations in what should be one of your key markets...and sure this Fook Up really helped with the 2011 zx10r sales.
How come cycle world dyno'd a 2011 with a two brothers slip on and a custom map on a pc3 and got 188 hp? and they said it gave it 17 more hp than stock. so ur numbers should be around 171hp...right...just sayin the biggest motorcycle magazine probably did it right.
@gsxrpik that's right, they probably knew exactly what they were doing. You have to really know what you're doing to manipulate the dyno results to inflate the numbers.
@RedlineMS501 when you stop and think about it dude, all the magazines are rating this bike over 170hp. are they all lying? and if they where doing it to sell mags...why wouldnt they say "our zx10 put out ONLY 130hp"...id rather read that than just another 170 hp rating. dont get mad at me because i brought it up, you guys are the ones that dyno'd a bike that wasnt even broken in man. im just the messenger.
@gsxrpik Do you actually believe everything you read in advertisements is 100% true? Ignorance is bliss.
Every bike & every dyno is different. They could take these same bikes to another dyno and do 170whp on those, it doesnt make one number wrong or right.
Any of these 3 bikes has more power than most people can handle in the twisties. Any squid can twist the throttle on the highway.
@dbtrackz33 what part of what i said was anything about twisties or twisting the throttle on the highway?
but to the part of the comment that was even relevant to what i said... it was not a advertisement, it was an indipendant magazine company doing a complete review on the zx10. they probably actualy broke the bike in properly, and set up the dyno properly and dyno'd the bike right. is what im saying. they where not bias nor did they have a reason to be bias. thanks...noob.
So let me get this straight. You tested a brand new bike against its full-on direct competitor without the time to set one of them up properly and while it is still under the break-in limiting.
WTF would be the point of posting this garbage with a title like "Dyno Shootout" other than to mislead a bunch of people????
I don't blame you for posting a less-than-meaningful video, but please do title it right for heaven's sake.
@jackka82 the BMW was also right out of the box with less than 600 km's. We now don't think the Kawi was inhibited by the break-in electronics but rather just by the North American ECM.
@jackka82 Look the horse is so close it's going to depend on the rider on the street and IF they are willing to push it. Also I dyno test Engines bro and you guyz need to have more control over your ambient test cell conditions NOTE: Humidity and air temp. Just saying but still impressive.
@LiLJankie no it didn't. The first dyno was out to lunch. We've never seen a ZX10r make any more than 155, stock with slip-ons. The second dyno was probably accurate.
@RedlineMS501 I ment 174whp sorry but the dyno is accurate my friend...its the newest dyno jet and it lost all the horse power to 142whp because of the swoop to the quad i changed the intake which the motor is designed around...at 187mph with the ram air the bikes are making around 190whp, new the k&n is tucked behind the radiator getting no air except the warm air from he header...i dynoed the motor in the zx10 on 3 diff dyno's...all the same results 174 give or take 1 or 2 same as in the quad
@RedlineMS501 several factors to RWP, two wheels will show a lower number than one wheel, the longer the chain the lower the HP as well. The more moving parts in general will also effect the numbers, I would think someone running one of these machines would know that.
@SlayerofFiction, yeah we know that. There are many factors that can skew the results, too many to list however some of them, like the length of a chain from one bike to another, creates such an insignificant difference that is doesn't require noting.
not sure how accurate this is. i can't say anything about the zx10r, but i've seen other dyno tests on the s1000rr and they all put out over 182 hp stock. so 167 is definitely an understatement.
@ RockThePylon - DUDE YOURE SO FUCKING RIGHT !!!!!! SERIOUSLY YOU TOOK WORDS RIGHT OUT MY MOUTH I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SAY THE SAMETHING TO EVERYONE BUT THE FUCKING BMW GUYS HAVE BOUGHT EVERYONE WITH MONEY...bastards get all their money from selling cars !!
Great informative video, it came out just how I thought it would. Given Kawi's recalling the bikes it will be interesting to see what happens when it comes out. Just for reference the bmw made 2 hp more than my zx14 did untuned, yet my bike had a 352cc advantage. They are serious bikes in a light riders hands. I am not small and prefer the bigger bike but no doubt they are faster
Just ignore the haters. Your videos are cool. You can't please everyone. Like you said, you are not a journalist and you are not pro testers, so in my opinion what we see here is more than enough. If people want accuracy, go to an official source or do their own test. :)
You guys do realize that the US version of the Kwak 10R is neutered, right? The electronics remove about 22HP (from reports). HP is not the king though, it's HP+Handling and I still think the CBR1000RR is the REAL Roadracing King. Not the Yammy, Not the Kwak, not the Zook and not the Bimmer.
This is a flawed test. What a crock. If you beleive this rubbish, then you are a goose. Just not right in so many ways....... Find a proper professional tester to do this test..
@patersja we also agree the test was not what we wanted. We literally had less than an hour with the bike at our shop after flogging it at the track so we did what would could. Also, the electronics were a challenge and we had no Kawi manual to help us. When we get another bike, we'll run a proper test.
@wellshii Go with the yamaha I have two 06 and 09 and that is the best bikes I have ever owned, no problems with anything and I don't know why ppl think it is a slow bike I shit on 10's all the time and the 06 is faster than the 09, I have owned all bike brands except Kaw's but this bike did not put out near the power that they claimed and the bmw still shit on it, I do like the new look of the Kaws though but yamaha is good quilty all the way around
Id hope to get 9s on a 1000.was clocking tens on my r6s .that was before I wrecked it two weeks ago.fml!still want an r1 though, just no cash :(@MrAssholebynature1
@wellshii I hear you homie and hope you ok from the wreck I have a pic on the 06 that is stretched with nos and that is the one on my page and I drag it and it runs 8.90s the 09 is fun too but don't ever think I will get used to the moto gp sound, my heart is at the drag strip not on the road just seem too many ppl getting hit by cars and wrecking out, I use the 09 just to cruise around town with the wife
If Im out on a BMW I'll always wonder if the 2011 ZX10R next to has had the restrictions taken off of it! If I get my ass handed to me I'll know the restrictions had been taken off of it! Please de-restrict the 2011 model and re-dyno these bikes so we will atleast know where we stand with the Kawi's because I can bet that most of them will have the restrictions taken off of them ASAP!
Well damn!! we had to wait months on Redline to upload an incomplete dyno to Youtube!?!... All that time inbetween announcing a dyno between the BMW and the ZX10R you'd think there was enough time to do a complete dyno! OK! now I have no ground to stand on because Redline just snatched it out from under my feet with this video! Daaag man! come on man the ZX's are already neutered!.... RPM, TORQUE, HP ETC ETC....
@ahmir31 yeah yeah, we know. We had a very limited amount of time with the bike at our shop after we abused it at the track. We didn't have time to do a full hookup.
it would be only fair if full power was against full power wouldnt it ? not a freakin restrictet model...so, how come there isnt a dyno video on youtube of the full stock, european zx10r ?...would love to see that video :)
This is in response to KHIJAPAN . You are quite misinformed. Yes, I own a S1000RR and ride with several other owners of that bike. I have over 9000 miles on mine, and have not had ANY problems, and neither have the about dozen other owners I know had any problems either. The issue with the 9000 RPM was not a recall. It was initiated on the second production run (the first being the pre order models), and the full rpm range was allowed after the 600 mile break in period. mine dynoed at 172HP!
Impossible the myriad recalled BMW to outperform Kawa or any other NEW Japs motorbike. Is there anybody who thinks that the unreliable BMW will produce more power? Please tell me how many BMW 1000 engines are ceased since today? BMW recalled them all to limit their rev limiter to 9000rpm. The road is the true dyno test, how they run around the track and the Sunday shootout
if this vid is completely 100% true then i will stick to my 07 model, but i some how dont believe this vid, 1 hp more than the 2010 model, dont think so, get some else to do the dyno run
@RockThePylon are the facts wrong? the bmw is an awesome bike. as is the ninja...i really honestly dont think it matters if one bike is ever so slightly faster then the other. most people who buy this bike wont drive it like a pro.
@RockThePylon thats what all the Kawasaki owners say lol. they dont need redline to contract to bmw when all the dynos prove the bmw is more powerful.
Awesome video! The 2011 ZX10R wont have more HP than my BMW S1000RR, even when it's finally re-released, LOL! Nice effort from Kawasaki but let's see what the 2012 GSXR1K will do....
@ibsabur it's just about BMW doesnt pass EPA limits in US, if you get unrestricted ECU and exhaust on ZX, it will have more HP than BMW, not to mention all those rumors about poor BMW quality
Well, all I can say is I had decided long ago to keep my 09' ZX10R... I know the 2011 has more power to offer after stripping it of its limiters and exhaust system but how will it compare to the BMW when the BMW has the same mod's?? OK, the electronics are better than the BMW but what about an all balls out comparison after de-restricting the ZX10R and adding an exhaust system to it and the BMW and then we will know. Kawasaki's don't do well with factory exhaust systems anyway.
Good info KonnoR

@Grominey , yes you are right, you correctly identified one of the bikes, it is a 2010....... and the other ZX10 is a 2011.

@Grominey wow...ur dumb
gsxrpik 10 months ago
@Grominey You sir are rather dumb. They even say in the description that they're doing BOTH bikes. 2010 AND 2011, learn to read. Kinda annoys me that the 2011 doesn't compare to the first gen, kawa even bragged about it "keeping up" or "beating" the BMW. The tach is cool looking though, I'll give them that.

@gazimgodx69 dont be mad because you have a kawaski, you can watch many tests on the 11 kaw. and 11 bmw and there all about the same numbers the bmw wins all of them.

Didn't expect that out come.. !!
turbosaleen347 11 months ago
regardless of the relatively low numbers shown here the bikes are all not significantly far apart.. Besides anyone can go fast in a straight line.. its everything else that matters!
calaiscruiser 11 months ago 14
@calaiscruiser once you get up to this calibre of bike, most riders wont use nearly all of the power, however consumers can be picky and if you show them that one bike performs slightly better than the other bike in its class, people are going to want the better one. I for one might still get the zx10r one day just because I love my 250r so much.
Fiercefighter2 10 months ago
@Fiercefighter2 LOL hey if u love ur 250R that much ur gonna think God himself built the ZX10R when that day finally arrives when u buy urs! Even the difference between my 09 ZX6R & the S1000RR was mental! But seriously 2 everyone else, Dyno runs are kinda like drag racing, a few moments of glory then its over & forgotten. Huge HP figures on bikes mean jack unless ur pro's like Rossi, Pedrosa or Stoner. Unlike the rest 99.99% of us mere mortals. Its a bikes ability to corner that really matters!
calaiscruiser 10 months ago
@calaiscruiser your so right. most people will never come close to using that power. and i love my 04 zx10r
daynehudek 10 months ago
@calaiscruiser Elevation makes a big difference! If you're at sea level expect allot more ponies the up in the alps (just an example, P.S. too lazy to find out where these guys are at) In there set conditions the S1kRR has more power, all they're trying to prove.

How come cycle world dyno'd a 2011 with a two brothers slip on and a custom map on a pc3 and got 188 hp? and they said it gave it 17 more hp than stock. so ur numbers should be around 171hp...right...just sayin the biggest motorcycle magazine probably did it right.
gsxrpik 1 year ago
@gsxrpik just say'in, they probably want to sell magazines which low numbers don't do.
RedlineMS501 11 months ago
@RedlineMS501 or they know what their doing.
gsxrpik 11 months ago
@gsxrpik that's right, they probably knew exactly what they were doing. You have to really know what you're doing to manipulate the dyno results to inflate the numbers.
RedlineMS501 11 months ago
@RedlineMS501 when you stop and think about it dude, all the magazines are rating this bike over 170hp. are they all lying? and if they where doing it to sell mags...why wouldnt they say "our zx10 put out ONLY 130hp"...id rather read that than just another 170 hp rating. dont get mad at me because i brought it up, you guys are the ones that dyno'd a bike that wasnt even broken in man. im just the messenger.
gsxrpik 11 months ago
@gsxrpik, the BMW was not broken in either. Break-in doesn't change the power very much, a couple hp maybe. Many Mags quote hp at the crank.
RedlineMS501 11 months ago
@RedlineMS501 agree'd
gsxrpik 11 months ago
@gsxrpik Do you actually believe everything you read in advertisements is 100% true? Ignorance is bliss.
Every bike & every dyno is different. They could take these same bikes to another dyno and do 170whp on those, it doesnt make one number wrong or right.
Any of these 3 bikes has more power than most people can handle in the twisties. Any squid can twist the throttle on the highway.
dbtrackz33 11 months ago
@dbtrackz33 what part of what i said was anything about twisties or twisting the throttle on the highway?
but to the part of the comment that was even relevant to what i said... it was not a advertisement, it was an indipendant magazine company doing a complete review on the zx10. they probably actualy broke the bike in properly, and set up the dyno properly and dyno'd the bike right. is what im saying. they where not bias nor did they have a reason to be bias. thanks...noob.

gsxrpik 11 months ago
So let me get this straight. You tested a brand new bike against its full-on direct competitor without the time to set one of them up properly and while it is still under the break-in limiting.
WTF would be the point of posting this garbage with a title like "Dyno Shootout" other than to mislead a bunch of people????
I don't blame you for posting a less-than-meaningful video, but please do title it right for heaven's sake.
jackka82 1 year ago
@jackka82 the BMW was also right out of the box with less than 600 km's. We now don't think the Kawi was inhibited by the break-in electronics but rather just by the North American ECM.
RedlineMS501 1 year ago
@jackka82 Look the horse is so close it's going to depend on the rider on the street and IF they are willing to push it. Also I dyno test Engines bro and you guyz need to have more control over your ambient test cell conditions NOTE: Humidity and air temp. Just saying but still impressive.
SuperTruck99 11 months ago

my 07 zx10 bone stock besides akro bolt ons made 178whp....?? now the engine is in my banshee and it only makes 142 on the same dyno lol
LiLJankie 1 year ago
@LiLJankie no it didn't. The first dyno was out to lunch. We've never seen a ZX10r make any more than 155, stock with slip-ons. The second dyno was probably accurate.
RedlineMS501 1 year ago
@RedlineMS501 I ment 174whp sorry but the dyno is accurate my friend...its the newest dyno jet and it lost all the horse power to 142whp because of the swoop to the quad i changed the intake which the motor is designed around...at 187mph with the ram air the bikes are making around 190whp, new the k&n is tucked behind the radiator getting no air except the warm air from he header...i dynoed the motor in the zx10 on 3 diff dyno's...all the same results 174 give or take 1 or 2 same as in the quad
LiLJankie 1 year ago
@RedlineMS501 ....and also had the rpm torgue and air fuel reading;)....
LiLJankie 1 year ago
@RedlineMS501 sounds about right at 155. my 05 zx10r with titanium muzzy headers/titainum exhaust/pc3 only made around 187whp
ssj4gotenks00 1 year ago
@RedlineMS501 several factors to RWP, two wheels will show a lower number than one wheel, the longer the chain the lower the HP as well. The more moving parts in general will also effect the numbers, I would think someone running one of these machines would know that.
SlayerofFiction 11 months ago
@SlayerofFiction, yeah we know that. There are many factors that can skew the results, too many to list however some of them, like the length of a chain from one bike to another, creates such an insignificant difference that is doesn't require noting.
RedlineMS501 11 months ago
not sure how accurate this is. i can't say anything about the zx10r, but i've seen other dyno tests on the s1000rr and they all put out over 182 hp stock. so 167 is definitely an understatement.

I am not small and prefer the bigger bike but no doubt they are faster
redhot916spd 1 year ago

Find a proper professional tester to do this test..
patersja 1 year ago 2
@patersja we also agree the test was not what we wanted. We literally had less than an hour with the bike at our shop after flogging it at the track so we did what would could. Also, the electronics were a challenge and we had no Kawi manual to help us. When we get another bike, we'll run a proper test.
RedlineMS501 1 year ago
@RedlineMS501 or ride what you got the bikes only as fast as the guy on it
BrandXchannel 1 year ago
Complete waste of time. Its a well known fact that Dynos vary depending on which one you use.
They could do the same test and have completely different results.
Waste of time and if commissioned by BMW then its not a completely fair test, could quite easily be corrupt in their favour.

RPM, TORQUE, HP ETC ETC....
ahmir31 1 year ago
@ahmir31 yeah yeah, we know. We had a very limited amount of time with the bike at our shop after we abused it at the track. We didn't have time to do a full hookup.

It was initiated on the second production run (the first being the pre order models), and the full rpm range was allowed after the 600 mile break in period. mine dynoed at 172HP!
jr1300gt 1 year ago
Impossible the myriad recalled BMW to outperform Kawa or any other NEW Japs motorbike. Is there anybody who thinks that the unreliable BMW will produce more power? Please tell me how many BMW 1000 engines are ceased since today? BMW recalled them all to limit their rev limiter to 9000rpm. The road is the true dyno test, how they run around the track and the Sunday shootout

helmut48de 1 year ago
Well, all I can say is I had decided long ago to keep my 09' ZX10R... I know the 2011 has more power to offer after stripping it of its limiters and exhaust system but how will it compare to the BMW when the BMW has the same mod's?? OK, the electronics are better than the BMW but what about an all balls out comparison after de-restricting the ZX10R and adding an exhaust system to it and the BMW and then we will know. Kawasaki's don't do well with factory exhaust systems anyway.
